Edward James Lee, 71, of Pomona, Kansas, passed away Saturday, September 2, 2023, at his home. A Celebration of life is planned at 5:00 pm, Sunday, October 8, 2023, at Pomona Lake Federal Side Shelter #4. Ed was born Wednesday, July 30, 1952 in Watertown, South Dakota. He was the son of John and Josephine (Oswskey) Lee. Ed attended Waubay, South Dakota High School graduating with the class of 1970. He lived in Apache Junction, Arizona from 1986 to 2010 before moving to Pomona, Kansas. Ed has worked as a truck driver, crop sprayer, diesel mechanic, and farmer. He was most recently employed with Judd Ranch, Pomona, Kansas working as an equipment and diesel mechanic. Ed enjoyed farming, traveling, and working on junk. He especially loved his family and friends. His generosity, kindness, and sense of humor will be remembered always. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Dana Lee; and sister June Hoffman. Survivors include son Jeremy Lee (Hannah) of Mesa, Arizona; daughters Shannon Huskett (Timothy) of Flagstaff, Arizona and Audrey Cross (Nicholas) of Mesa, Arizona; brother Thomas Lee of Webster, South Dakota; and six grandchildren Jennah Lee, Zyannah Lee, Malachi Lee, Kristyanna Cross, Hailee Huskett, and Quinn Huskett.

Justin Michael Dyer, 41, of Pomona, Kansas, passed away on Monday, August 28, 2023. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p. m. to 8:00 p. m. , Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory St, Ottawa, Kansas 66067. Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p. m. , Thursday, September 7, 2023, at Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona, Kansas. Justin was born on December 10, 1981, in Ottawa, Kansas. He was the son of Michael and Barbara (Mowat) Dyer. Justin grew up in Pomona, and graduated from Pomona High School with the class of 2001. He married Lisa Davis on May 26, 2023, at Pomona Lake. Justin loved farming, he could operate any piece of equipment. He enjoyed being outside, hunting, mudding and tending to his animals. Justin could light up any room that he walked into and his laugh was infectious. He loved spending time with his friends and family more than anything. Justin left this earth too soon. He is preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Dyer, and brother, Joseph Dyer, maternal grandparents, Jim and Mary Mowat, and paternal grandparents, Lawrence and Verda Dyer. Survivors include his wife, Lisa Dyer, of the home, father, Michael Dyer, of the home, three children, Ashlynn Davis, Sean Davis and Ryan Connelly, as well as many extend family members and friends. Debbie J. Griffin, age 71, of Pomona, Kansas, passed away on Friday, August 25, 2023, at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission, surrounded by her loving family. Celebration of life will be held at 2 p. m. , Saturday, September 9, 2023, at Grace Community Fellowship, 501 S Poplar, Ottawa, Kansas 66067. Visitation will be held from 2:30 p. m. to 4 p. m. Debbie was born on Thursday, April 24, 1952, the daughter of Richard and Lois (Spring) Griffin. She was the second of four daughters. Debbie graduated from Pomona High School with the class of 1971. She spent her career working for King Radio, EFTC, Appanoose Schools, Casey's in Pomona and Ottawa, and finally Rock Creek of Ottawa. She enjoyed fishing and spending time outside. Debbie loved to cook, especially for her family and friends. Her famous dishes included pork chop burritos (making 70 at a time), homemade chicken and noodles and lemon pie! Above all she loved spending time with her family and friends. Debbie is preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Lois Griffin and brother-in-law, K. R. Bowman. Survivors include her three sisters; Cindy (Fred) Stevenson, of Rantoul, Kansas, Carolyn (Ron) Snethen, of Ottawa, Kansas, and Penny (Ed) Thompson, of Pomona, Kansas, 14 nieces and nephews, 12 great nieces and nephews, as well as many wonderful friends and extended family. Carroll Dean Renfro, 75 of Pomona, KS, passed away Sunday, April 9, 2023, at Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, KS. Carroll was born March 6, 1948 in Springfield, MO, the son of Bobby Renfrow and Dorothy (Lansdown) Renfrow. Carroll always went by the name Dean. Dean lived most of his adult life in Olathe, KS before moving to Pomona in 2019. He was a supervisor in laundry for Aramark in Olathe, KS during his professional years. On September 19, 1987, Dean was united in marriage to Charlene Ree in Olathe, KS. They shared thirty-five years of loving marriage. In his free time Dean spent his moments outdoors. If the weather was good you would not find him in the house. You probably would catch him doing his favorite pastime fishing either at Hillsdale Lake or Pomona Lake. Dean loved just being out in nature relaxing and enjoying the moment. Dean is survived by his wife Charlene Renfro, Pomona, KS; three daughters, Rhonda Renfro, and husband David Miller, Pomona, KS, Brenda Gatlin, Olathe, KS, Melinda LeBoeuf, and husband Patrick, Pomona, KS, three brothers, Darrell Stephenson, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Donald Renfro, Edgerton, KS, Richard Renfro, Ottawa, KS; nine grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchild. Lyle E. Hunt, 95, of Pomona, KS passed away Friday, October 21, 2022 at Vassar, KS. He was born August 20, 1927 in Greeley, KS the son of Ralph and Luella (Wagner) Hunt. He graduated from the Pomona High School in Pomona, KS. On August 7, 1949 he was united in marriage to Margaret Edith Gorrell at Parker, KS. They were privileged to share more than forty-three years of married life together until her passing on January 2, 1993. On January 22, 1994, he married Treva D. Adell. They shared over sixteen years of marriage before her death on September 13, 2010. Mr. Hunt was a farmer and stockman on the family farm west of Pomona, KS for many years. He was a longtime and active member of the former Pomona United Methodist Church, Pomona, KS. He was a member of the Pomona Lions Club and enjoyed square dancing with the Ottawa Promenades. He is survived by two daughters, Nancy Ann Patridge and her husband Keith of Mission, TX and Lyla Jo Lindholm and her husband Brian of Shawnee, KS; a step-daughter, Janette Nebel and husband Paul of Spring Hill, KS; a step-son, Jerry Adell and his wife Ruth of Corona, CA; four granddaughters, Megan, Shea, Rachel and Anna; and seven great-grandchildren. Mr. Hunt was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Margaret Hunt and Treva Hunt; a brother, Ralph Hunt Jr. ; and three sisters, Juanita Faye Moody, Evamae Daigh and Elizabeth Lee Claar. Lyle Dean Lieurance, 58, of Pomona, KS passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at his home. He was born September 27, 1963 in Eureka, KS the son of Verle "Pee Wee" Dean Lieurance and Alice Marie (Larkin) Lieurance. He grew up in Severy, KS and graduated from West Elk High School in Howard, KS. He later attended the Independence Community College for a short time in Independence, KS. He married Christina Marie (Benjamin) Lieurance in 1995. They later divorced. Lyle began working in the oil fields near Severy, KS before moving to Dallas, TX where he began a long career in the Auto Body Collision industry. He currently worked as an Auto Body Technician for the McCarthy Auto Group in Olathe, KS. Lyle was known for working hard but also enjoyed making memories by clowning around. Sometimes he would do flips at a spur of the moment or dress in bright colored clothing for formal occasions. He also enjoyed collecting hats and tools. He was an avid sports fan that enjoyed NASCAR, Chiefs Football, and Jayhawk Basketball. He lived life to its fullest by spending time traveling and making memories with his daughter, Jenny, on a regular basis. Mr. Lieurance was preceded in death by his parents; a nephew, Kenneth Chad Burrus; an aunt, Vada Jewell Call; an uncle, Ervin Kent Lieurance; and his faithful companion German Shepherd, Hoss. Surviving family includes his daughter, Jennifer "Jenny" Lynn Lieurance of Topeka, KS; an adoptive daughter, Tanya Marie Jobe of Lawrence, KS; an adoptive son, Phillip Scott Lieurance of Emporia, KS; two brothers, Aaron Lee Lieurance and Virginia Quintana of Ottawa, KS and Larry Allen Lieurance of Golden, CO; two sisters, Karen Jane Redlin and husband, Steven of Ottawa, KS and Denise Eileen Lieurance of Iola, KS; seven grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
