location-icon

West Orange, NJ

Dr. William Morton Feigenbaum, known to everyone as Morty, passed away on March 2, 2024 at the age of 82 in West Orange, New Jersey. He was born on December 27, 1941, in the Bronx, New York. A graduate of DeWitt Clinton High School and the City College of New York, Morty continued his education at the University of South Carolina, where he earned his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. Morty dedicated his career to helping others. He taught history at Herman Ridder Junior High School in the Bronx before embarking on his true career, becoming a highly respected clinical psychologist in private practice in North Haledon, NJ; as well as a public school psychologist in Elmwood Park and Patterson, NJ. Outside of his professional life, Morty had a passion for staying active. He was a sports fan, an avid runner and tennis player, and a hiker. Morty found joy and solace in the outdoors, surrounded by nature and relishing his healthy lifestyle. He also enjoyed reading, keeping up with current events, and studying Spanish; and he was a fierce Scrabble player. Family was the joy of Morty’s life, and he delighted in spending quality time with his loved ones, especially his children and grandchildren. There was never any doubt that Dad/Grandpa/Morty always had your back. Morty is survived by Lois, his devoted wife of 28 years. He is cherished by his beloved children: Adam Feigenbaum of Orlando, FL; Tobie Feigenbaum of Harrison, ME; Heidi Feigenbaum and her husband George Cathey of Flagstaff, AZ; and Ellen Thompson and her husband Jonathan of Windermere, FL. He is also survived by his stepchildren: Robin Busch-Wheaton and her husband Elliot of Berkeley, CA; and Jonathan Busch and his wife Kathy of Metuchen, NJ. Morty will be dearly missed by his wonderful grandchildren Noa, Ezra, and Eben Tsapis and Kyra Gould; Judd and Zeke Cathey; Kayleigh and Kassidy Thompson; Zola and Gilda Busch-Wheaton; and Henry, Ike and Robert Busch. Morty is preceded in death by his parents, Sol and Julie Feigenbaum of the Bronx, NY; his sister Sondra Rosenberg and her husband Charles of New York City; and his son-in-law, Adam Tsapis, of Harrison, ME. Morty was passionate about helping those less fortunate and cared deeply about those facing injustice. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a social justice-focused or humanitarian charity, such as Amnesty International, Oxfam, Greenpeace, Anti-Defamation League, or the American Red Cross, in memory of Dr. W. Morton Feigenbaum.
