George D’Ambrosio, 79, of Coatesville, PA, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 1, 2024, at the Hospital of The University of Pennsylvania, surrounded by family. Born in 1944, in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Silvio and Mary (née D’Aulerio) D’Ambrosio. He was a 1962 graduate of LaSalle College High School,1966 graduate of Villanova University, and a 1969 graduate of Villanova Law School. In August 1961, at the Starlight Ballroom in Wildwood, NJ, it was love at first sight when he met his future bride, Pat (née Penrose). They were married in 1966 and celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on November 2023. They raised 4 children: Nicole Pohwat (David), Patti Curci (Joseph), Christy Bliss (Mike Wolfe), and John D’Ambrosio (Cindy) in their dream home in West Chester, PA, in the Mill Valley neighborhood. He made many life-long friends before moving to Hill View in 2003, where he continued to make great friends around the pool table and community events. He could be found loudly cheering on the sidelines of an athletic field or proudly clapping in the audience of a concert or play where he was "Poppop" to 12 grandchildren: Cassie Pohwat, Nick Pohwat, Colin Bliss, Drew Curci, Jason Bliss, Marissa Pohwat, Brad Curci, Natalie Curci, Alaina D’Ambrosio, Lily Wolfe, Nathan D’Ambrosio and Julia D’Ambrosio. He was very proud of his long career as an Attorney. He started as a young lawyer at the Philadelphia DA’s office. In 1974, he became a partner at Owens, D’Ambrosion and Nescio Law Practice in West Chester. Then in 2008, he became an Attorney of Counsel at Reger, Rizzo and Darnall in West Chester, where he was still working as recent as Thursday. He also used his understanding of the law as a Township Supervisor for West Whiteland Township for 10 years. He spent a lot of his free time volunteering over the years for various organizations including coaching basketball for CYO at St. Phillip and James Parish School, basketball coach for Special Olympics for 10 years, feeding meals at Safe Harbor of Chester County and a MECO Team leader for Malvern Prep at many retreat weekends. Combining his love of his occupation with his love of volunteering led him to become the recipient of the 2016 PA Bar Pro Bono Attorney of the Year. George also was a devout Catholic. He deepened his faith in the 1970’s when he was an active member of Cursillo. If you ever needed to reach him, he could be found at daily 6 am mass in a track suit. As soon as he returned home from church he would jog around the neighborhood thereby getting his physical and spiritual exercise every morning. He was a member of Sts. Phillip and James parish for 28 years where he was a Eucharist Minister before moving to St Peter Parish in West Brandywine. Slightly less then his love of his family was his love for the beach, boating, and golfing. If you didn’t see him in any of those places you could be sure to find him cheering on the Villanova Basketball Wildcats. He was blessed with an abundance of family, cousins and friends who loved him and are mourning his passing. Please join us to celebrate his life on Thursday, March 7, 2024, with 10:30-11:45 AM Viewing at St Peter Roman Catholic Church, 2835 Manor Road, Coatesville, PA 19320 followed by his 12:00 PM Funeral Mass. There will be a Luncheon following the services. The Funeral Mass will be livestreamed at https://www.youtube.com/@SPChurchMediaIn lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in George’s name to the American Cancer Society, https://donate.cancer.org/ or Special Olympics of Chester County, https://specialolympicspa.org/.
