Edward (Ned) Thomas Connor, born on June 30, 1924, in Greensburg, Pa. to Eleanor Scherrer and Charles Joseph Connor, passed away on June 16, 2022, at Sunrise Assisted Living at Fox Hill in Bethesda, Md. Ned's childhood was full of transitions. His family moved from Greensburg, Pa. , to St Louis, Mo. , then to Baltimore, Md. Ned's father died when he was 7. After his death, Ned's mother took the six children back to Greensburg, Pa. where she frugally took care of the children and helped them achieve their dreams. Upon graduation from High School, Ned became a U. S. Navy Seabee and served in the South Pacific (New Guinea) until 1946. He graduated from the Univ. of Pittsburg in 1949 with a BS in Electrical Engineering, compliments of the GI bill. Upon graduation, he started his career with General Electric (GE). He became a member of the Inter-Society Color Council (ISCC) and the Instrument Society of America (ISA); now known as International Society of Automation. He left GE in 1959 to join Instrument Development Laboratories (IDL) in Attleboro, Ma. , and rose to the position of president. In 1971, Ned joined Gardner Laboratory of Bethesda, Md. , as executive vice president and later; president when the company was acquired by Pacific Scientific, from which he retired in 1989. In 1949 he married Louise Graff in Erie, Pa. Ned and Louise moved to Schenectady, N. Y. , where their first three children were born. They moved to Swampscott, Ma. , where their next three children were born. Then they moved to North Attleboro, Ma. , and spent the next 11 yrs raising their children. While there, Ned was active in the Knights of Columbus and the Rotary Club in which he was president one year. Ned was active as a coach for his sons' baseball teams and Pop Warner football teams. Ned and Louise kept very active which included golf trips with friends. They and 19 other friends bought Heather Hill Golf Club in which they were very involved in the day-to-day operations. Ned then moved his family to 5500 Dorset Avenue, Chevy Chase, Md. , in 1971. Ned had been a member of Little Flower Church since moving to Md. He had also maintained his membership with the Knights of Columbus. He was also active in the Kenwood Citizen's Association and played roles in the Kenwood play. Before the pandemic, he regularly went to the Kenwood fitness center. Being outdoors and physically fit was a priority for Ned. He loved to bike with his grandchildren on the Capital Crescent Trail as well as work in the yard. Later, he lovingly took care of Louise when she was ill. Ned moved to assisted living three months ago where he made new friends and enjoyed lively discussions. Anyone who knows Ned, knows that he is truly loving and generous. He had a way of relating to people to make them feel special. Ned was predeceased by his wife, Louise Graff Connor in 2016 after 67 years of marriage and his daughter, Suzanne Hendrix of Tallahassee, Fl. in 2020. Survivors include his children Edward Connor of Wrentham, Ma. , James Connor of Westport, Ma. , Jane Connor of Bethesda, Md. , Carolyn Miller of Bethesda Md. , Elizabeth (Betsy) Stumpf of Charlottesville, Va. , 16 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on June 27, 2022, at 12:00 noon at The Church of the Little Flower, Bethesda, Md. , with a viewing beginning at 11:30 a. m. The burial will immediately follow at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring, Md. Friends and family are invited to a celebration of Ned's life, which will be held the same day at 3:00 p. m. at The Women's Club of Bethesda.
