On October 1st, Edward Arnold passed away peacefully, having recently celebrated his 90th birthday on September 19th with his family Ed was born in 1933 in New York City, to Marie & Joseph Arnold He is survived by his two sisters Ellenor Jansson & Carol Guidice Ed married Anne Coney on May 11th 1957, having met at AT&T where he worked for over 40 years He said he fell in love with her after she would take the cookies packed in his lunch He would always say "first she stole my cookies, then she stole my heart" Ed was a loving father to Deborah & Edward, Dianne & Russell and Michele & Michael He was a doting Papa to Zachary & Sara, Daniel & Emily, Christopher & Daniella, Peter & Michaella, Jessica & David, Annie and Julia He was also a great grandfather to Benjamin, the light of his life, who made him smile every day Ed will be best remembered for his hard work ethic, carpentry skills, passion for sport (especially his beloved Rangers & Yankees) and his love for sailing, but mostly for the love and support he gave his family The (His) funeral service will be held at St Gabriel's Chapel, 549 County Rte 520 (Newman Springs Rd) Marlboro NJ, on Saturday October 7th at 10:00am In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to either: Children of Bellevue ( ) Ph: (212) 562 4130 Ext 5 Attention Teresa Pangallozzi Or IHM Parish Food Pantry 1571 South Martine Ave, Scotch Plains, NJ 07076

Richard James Edge Jr,70, died on December 8th, 2023 surrounded by his family. Richard was born to Richard Senior and Rosemary Edge, he was raised in Linden, New Jersey and later moved to Westfield with his family. Richard attended High School at Saint Benedicts Academy in Newark NJ. During his adolescence and teenage years, he was the United States junior champion of Irish dancing in the men's division. He not only earned championship status but also performed on the Johnny Carson show in his early years. After high school Rich earned a bachelor's degree in ornamental horticultural from Delaware Valley college. Rich worked for the department of public works in Westfield NJ until his retirement. While working there, he restored the township bell which was a historic part of Westfields history. He also spent many years working in landscape design and construction. Richard was highly active in both the Knights of Columbus and American Legion Post 3 in Westfield NJ. He is survived by his three children: Amy Edge, Samuel Edge, and Jessica Rodriguez; his grandchildren: Ava Marie Edge, Hunter Samuel Edge; Son-in-Law: Herbert Rodriguez, Daughter-in-Law: Anya DiNitto; Brother-in-Law: Robert Miller; and his sisters: Rosemary Miller and Cathy Gibson. A funeral mass will be celebrated on December 12th, 2023, at 12pm at The Church of St. Anne, 325 Second Ave, Garwood, NJ 07027. Cremation will be private. Howard M. Schulte November 21, 1940 - December 8, 2023 Howard was born in Irvington, New Jersey in 1940. He spent his childhood in Newark, Miami Beach, Bradley Beach, and Edison, New Jersey. He raised his family in Westfield, New Jersey before moving to Cranford and then to Vero Beach, Florida. He was a professor of Mathematics at Jersey City State College and held a second career as one of the few U. S. smoking pipe repair experts. He continued his smoking pipe repair business for many years after retiring from teaching. After leaving New Jersey, Howard lived in Vero Beach, Florida for more than 20 years. He was an avid bowler, golfer and enjoyed spending time with friends and family. He was very proud of attaining the coveted hole in one. He was a bugle and trumpet player, beginning during his scouting years, where he rose to Eagle Scout. He was one of the world's biggest Neil Diamond fans, exposing his family to hour after hour of his music on long car rides and family trips. He leaves behind his two daughters, Amy Svec (J. C. Svec) and Lisa Schulte (Rick Goralnick) and two adored grandchildren, Dakota Svec and Matthew Goralnick. His generosity, humor and signature gravelly voice will be missed by all who knew and loved him. A graveside service will be held on Monday, December 11 at 11:00AM at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, 189 Gill Lane, Iselin, NJ 08830. Those attending will meet at the cemetery office at 10:45 AM. On February 2, 1959, Robin Denise Braxton was born to beloved parents, Cornelius and Rose Braxton, in Westfield, NJ. Throughout her life, Robin has been known for always being unapologetically herself. A strong woman, who has been able to endure and overcome some of life's greatest challenges. A daughter and a mother. A partner and a friend. She has dramatically affected the lives of all who knew her. Robin grew up in Westfield, NJ, where she attended the Westfield School System alongside her 6 brothers and sisters. Cornelius "Butchie" Braxton Jr. (deceased), Ernie Braxton (deceased), Kenneth Braxton (deceased), Glenn Braxton, Linda Chandler and Lisa Braxton. During her younger years she was a member of the Westfield Community Center Drum and Bugle Corp. She twirled the baton and marched every year in the Memorial Day and the Fourth of July parades. She was a member of the modern dance group through the Community Center and also the R&B dance group called Sonja B and the Foxy Four who consisted of Robin, Sonja Braxton Barnes, Karen Braxton, Shelly Wayne and Gwen Morgan. During her grade school years in McKinley School, she was very athletic and dominated the volleyball tournament that was a major event in 6 grade. She always won the 1st place prize. . . a huge 'candy bar' given out by her teacher Mr. Watkins. While at Roosevelt Junior High school she was a part of the gymnastics team and was a very good gymnast. On New Year's Day, 1981, Robin was blessed with starting a family of her own. She would grow up to raise 4 strong men: Lamont W, Eric Tyshon, Dante Zerrel and Kaison Nadir. Although leaving sooner than expected, she was able to see her family blossom even further with two grandchildren. Robin moved to Plainfield, NJ in later years, where she settled down with her life-partner and longtime fiance, Vernon Lewis, better known as Hasson. There Robin continued her career working many years in data entry, merchandising and customer service, while along the way, leaving many lasting impressions and making lifelong friendships. She was loved by all who knew her. She is survived by her 4 sons; Lamont, Eric, Dante and Kaison, her Fiance; Hasson, her brother; Glenn, her sisters; Linda and Lisa, grandchildren; Zariyah and Zakai, and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and many friends. She will be missed immensely, but those who've had the privilege of knowing her, her memory will live on in our hearts forever.Show more

Rosa Bell, better known as Rose, left this life and went home to be with Jesus on Thursday morning, November 17, 2023, at the age of 96, in Bowie MD. She was in hospice care. She was born to the parents of Clyde and Anna Lee on September 29 , 1927, in Evington Virginia where she attended the public school system. At age 17, she relocated to Westfield New Jersey to assist her sister Mary. Some years later she met Cornelius Braxton, better known as Neily. They fell in love and were married on May 2, 1947. They resided in Westfield and raised their 7 children. Rose worked in the domestic field for over 30 years. Her employers were very good to her, and she was very devoted to them. She was a very independent and strong woman full of grace and mercy. She was a gifted seamstress and loved to cook for family and friends. She was known for her homemade rolls and mac & cheese, although anything she cooked was savory and delicious. She enjoyed her morning decaf coffee and reading her bible. She sat for hours working on her wordsearch books. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church for over 40 years. She was in the choir, part of the flower club, an usher and served on the board of trustees. Her and her sister, Mary, were always volunteering to cook for an event as well as the rest of the trustees and choir members. Rose and Neily resided in Westfield NJ for over 55 years, upon which time they moved to Bowie MD in 2006. In 2015, Rose was diagnosed with Dementia. As time moved on, she slowly declined, but she was still full of zeal and faith. Her children rallied around her and took good care of her. Rose was a kind soul and greatly loved the Lord. She was loved by all her children, grandchildren and great, great grandchildren. Her name to them was" Nana". They call her "Blessed". Rose is preceded in death by her parents Clyde and Anna Lee, her husband, Cornelius, (Neily), her children Cornelius Jr (Butchie)-(Donna), Ernie (Mildred), Kenny (Beatrice), and Robin. Her sisters and brothers, Louisa Lee, Lucy Smith, Ethel Sparrow, Nelly Gadsden, Corrine Walthall, Mable Walthall, Clyde Lee, Philip, and Herbert Lee. Rose left two daughters, Linda and Lisa, and one son, Glenn. She left one sister, Augusta, who is still living in Virginia. A special recognition to her devoted daughter Lisa A Braxton for the special love and care during her illness. Rose loved the Lord with all her heart and served as the Lord guided her.Show more

Earlene Evans was born on March 28, 1931, in Newark, NJ to the late Hershel and Annie Lee Rutledge. She was predeceased by her brothers Raymond and Clarence Rutledge, her sister, Vera Adkins, and her husband, James C. Evans. Earlene was a graduate of West Side High School in Newark. After the birth of her six children, at the age of 42, she resumed her education by attending Essex County College and obtaining certification as a nurse. She worked in this field for a while and later as an aide for Newark Public Schools. As a teenager, Earlene began attending church with her friend, Grace (Williams) McKnight. She was saved as a young adult and found a spiritual family under the leadership of Overseer Clarence Williams at Church of the Living God, Pillar and Foundation of Truth and later at St Paul Pentecostal Holiness Church. Serving in the church and always looking for opportunities to help those in need, she was an example for her children. Earlene left Newark to care for ill husband in Virginia. She wanted to continue the relationship with her grandchildren, so she would drive back up to NJ to have a bunch of them stay with her for a week each summer. One group of girls, the other group would be the boys. Her adult grandchildren still look for a birthday card from her each year. Earlene later returned to Newark permanently and found a church home at Zion Holy Church. Her new church family enveloped her with love, and she became the dear friend of Mother Flossie Cohen. Her work for the Lord continued as Evangelist Evans chaired the Nursing Home and Noonday Prayer ministries. Evangelist Evans was called "Mother Moses", "Ma" or "Grandma" by many. Known for her quick wit and thoughtfulness, she was a source of encouragement to the young people in her church as well as those at Christian Antioch Church in Christ. Earlene was a fun-loving traveler and an avid shopper, and by God's grace, she lived life to the fullest even in her last days. She will be held in loving remembrance by two sons Shelton Moses of OH; Lionel Moses of NJ; four daughters Cheryl Moses and Karen Gordon (Christopher) of PA, Colette Moses and Bernadette Leake of NJ; 21 grandchildren and 28 great grands; 6 sisters-in-law, a longtime friend and spiritual sister, Lucinda White, a daughter she did not birth, Mary Ann Sawka, a god daughter, Mary Cohen- Williams (Mark); a nephew, Tony Adkins (Patrice) as well as many other family members and friends. Though her presence will be missed, Earlene made it a priority to make many special memories that will last forever.Show more

Rev. Richard J. Carrington, Jr. ,72, born to eternal life on November 22, 2023. Visitation will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes RC Church, 300 Central Ave. , Mountainside on Monday, November 27, 2023 from 4 to 8 PM. A Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at 10:30 AM at the church. Interment will follow at Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah. Fr. Richard graduated from Seton Hall University and continued on to the Immaculate Conception Seminary and was ordained on May 29, 1976. A Catholic Priest of the Archdiocese of Newark, Fr. Richard dedicated his life to service in the Catholic Church and touched countless lives in the following parishes: SS Joseph and Michael in Union City, where he also served as Pastor, St. Thomas the Apostle in Bloomfield, St. John the Baptist in Jersey City, St. Joseph of the Palisades in West New York, Our Lady of Grace/St. Joseph in Hoboken, where he also served as Pastor and Our Lady of Lourdes in Mountainside, from where he retired as Pastor. In addition, he served in the US Navy as a Chaplin for 20 years, retiring as a Commander. Fr. Richard was predeceased by his parents, the late Richard and Genevieve Carrington. He is survived by his sister, Jeanne Carrington and her husband Brian Keane of Toms River, his nieces, Kaitlin Carrington Keane and her husband, David O'Flanagan of London, England and Elizabeth Anne Keane and her husband, Conor White of New York City and his grandniece Ripley Orla O'Flanagan Keane.
