Longtime Monte Vista resident E. Jacqueline "Jacquie" French, 91, died on her husband's birthday, October 4, 2023 at the River Valley Inn Rehabilitation and Nursing Home in Del Norte. Jacquie was born in Del Norte, Colorado on January 13, 1932, the daughter to John "Jack" Edward Ryan and Evelyn M. Shaw. She married the love of her life, Carl R. French on January 14, 1951, the day after she turned 19, at the Methodist Church in Del Norte. Jacquie moved to the San Luis Valley in 1967 with her husband Carl. Carl worked under Charlie Pollard in his plumbing business to obtain his journeyman, and later she and Carl purchased the business and changed the name to French Plumbing. She was an active member of the Methodist Church in Monte Vista and volunteered for many services and activities through the church. She also volunteered every Thursday doing hair for the people at the Colorado State Veterans Center. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing card games with her friends, especially Pinocle, embroidery and knitting. In her younger years, she also liked to bowl and play golf. Jacquie was a member of The Book Club and read many books. Jacquie is survived by her daughter Carla (Robin) Clutter of Monte Vista, CO; her grandchildren Wayne (Robin) Clutter of Monte Vista, and Yvette (Dan) Wrona of Parker, CO; great grandchildren Emily, Elizabeth, and Sophie Clutter, and Cole and Mason Wrona; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carl, her infant children John M. French, and Patricia Evelyn French, and numerous extended family members. Cremation was chosen and a Memorial Service will be held 2:00 p. m. Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at the Monte Vista Community Methodist Church. Monte Vista resident Sharon Adams, 70, passed away peacefully at her home on November 23, 2023. Sharon was born to George and Lorene Franklin on November 29, 1952 in Atwood Kansas. She grew up in Atwood and lived in Kansas until moving to Colorado in 1979. That Kansas heritage remained very important to her throughout her life. Soon after moving to the San Luis Valley, she married the love of her life Kerry Adams on June 4, 1983, they were married for 40 wonderful years and raised their two children together in Monte Vista. Sharon was an active member of the community serving as a teacher at Sargent High School for nearly 40 years. During the summers she would work as the office manager for SLV Crop Care. Teaching was her life's passion and she was continually inspired by her students. She strove to help them however she could. She also acted as an advisor for one of the most successful and active FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) chapters, organized and coordinated indoor 4H events, and was a valued member of the PEO (Philanthropic Education Organization) Sisterhood. After retiring from teaching, she enjoyed working at Summit Engineering through the remainder of her life. She enjoyed family visits, working in the yard, traveling around the US, and watching both Disney movies and crime drama television. She most valued family, tradition, and hard work. Sharon is survived by her husband Kerry Adams, her children Katherine (Mark) Hardy of Bismarck, ND, and Kenneth Adams of Milwaukee, WI; her grandchildren Everett and Jackson Hardy; her siblings Joyce Mai of Wakeeney, KS, Marilyn Kastens of Atwood, KS, Barbara Hendrickson of Wakeeney, KS and Dennis Franklin of Atwood, KS. Sharon is preceded in death by her parents George and Lorene Franklin. Cremation was chosen and a memorial service will be held on Friday, December 1, 2023 at 2:00 pm at the Monte Vista Community Methodist Church. It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our son and brother, Jerome {Jerry} Mathew Salazar of Monte Vista, CO in Colorado Springs on November 13, 2023. Jerry was born on December 8, 1953 in Holyoke, MA to Modesto and Martha Salazar, becoming the oldest of their '6 J's' and began his life as an Air Force Brat, and a life of world travel with his family. He attended schools in Missouri, onto Zaragosa, Spain, El Paso, TX, McChord AFB, WA, Travis AFB, CA, Boarding School in Ankara, Turkey, dotted with a few times in Monte Vista, CO. where he graduated in 1972. He served in the United States Marine Corps. , of which he was proud, for all of his life. He won several prestigious awards for his writing and production skills, including interviews with General West Moreland, comic Bill Cosby and was a part of the production crew serving President Nixon. Jerry had a great talent for broadcasting on and writing 'production' while he was manager for KSLV radio station in Monte Vista, CO. for several years, winning the hearts over many of his beloved community of Monte Vista and the San Luis Valley. He also charmed the air waves in several communities in Northern Colorado, New Mexico and California. He definitely had the gift of gab and had a joke to share, whether you wanted to hear it or not! Jerry was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Bernie and Rachel Noriega of Monte Vista CO. , and Francisco and Eurmania Salazar of Center CO. , his father, Modesto Salazar, his sisters Joya {Mike} Guttierrez and Jessica Simmons both of Monte Vista CO. His brother Jan Salazar, Colorado Springs, CO. and nephew Marty Guttierrez of Monte Vista, CO. He is survived by his mother Martha Salazar, Monte Vista CO. , his brother Joey Salazar of Albuquerque, NM and Josette {Louie} Borrego, of Espanola, NM. His former companion Kathy Burns and his son Dominic Salazar, Santa Fe, NM. As well as his beloved 'Scottie', 'America'. Longtime Monte Vista resident Mary A. Martinez, 100, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, November 10, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born in Antonito Colorado on October 24, 1923 to Gregorita (DeHerrera ) Lobato and Martin Lobato. She married the love of her life Ben R. Martinez on August 7, 1946 in Monte Vista at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, they were married 63 beautiful years until his passing in 2010. Mary loved to pray the Rosary 2 or 3 times daily. She enjoyed baking, doing crossword puzzles and word searches. She liked to watch wrestling, she was an avid Broncos and Colorado Rockies fan. Mary collected ceramic sheep, her special collections of ceramic farm animals and sheep are a prized collection, that anyone who knew her enjoyed contributing to. Mary absolutely loved visiting with her many friends, whom she loved dearly. She retired from the Colorado State Veterans Center food service department after 26years of dedicated service. Mary is survived by her only child Antonio "Tony" Martin Martinez, he was her pride and joy. Her love for him was her safety and security. He was her happiness! Her daughter-in -law Virginia Z. Martinez who was her calmness, her guide, her safety and security. Mary enjoyed sitting with Virginia and talking and praying, laughing and reminiscing, and looking at pictures (when she could still see well). Her grand-daughters; Melissa R. (Juan) Martinez Palomarez, they were her tenderness, her love, her joy, her friends, and her protectors. Angelica K. (Eli) Heredia, they were her sweetness, her dancing partner, her joy, her protectors. Mary's great-grandchildren; Eliana H. Heredia who was her one and only great-granddaughter. She was her beautiful and loving pride and joy. Antonio C. Martinez, was her grandson whom shared the same name with her Antonio - Antonia and she was so proud of that. He was her handsome and tall great grandson and loving pride and joy. Eryc Heredia, was her youngest great grandson and her soft-spoken grandson that was so handsome and her loving pride and joy. Mary's pride in life was living long enough to be blessed with her 5th generation, great-great-grandson Aiden Heredia-Montoya. She loved him so much. She loved attending all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren's activities and sports. She was their biggest fan! She always said her biggest accomplishments in life was living long enough and with good health to enjoy many happy moments and create many happy memories with her family. To have good energy to enjoy being included in everything. Mary is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews whom she was a mother figure for and they all loved her dearly. Mary was preceded in death by both her parents, her husband, her brothers; Eluterio Lobato, Manuel Lobato, and Joe Alfonso Lobato; her sisters in law; Jane Lobato and Adelina Lobato. A visitation will be held Friday November 17, 2023 from 1 - 4 pm at Rogers Family Mortuary at 404 Morris Street in Monte Vista. A vigil and recitation of the Rosary will be Friday November 17, 2023 at 7 pm at the St Joseph Catholic Church in Monte Vista. Longtime Monte Vista resident Alberto Adelmo Quintana, 81, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, October 26, 2023. Albert was born on May 21, 2023 to Guadalupe and Maria (Vigil) Quintana in The Llama New Mexico "under a pinon tree". He married the love of his life Benina Maria Martinez on December 29, 1961. Together they raised 4 children. Albert worked as a farmer all of his life, and really enjoyed it. He loved to spend time with his family. He enjoyed the mountains, hunting and fishing. Albert enjoyed spending time in the garage tinkering with cars. He loved to watch Western movies, John Wayne was his favorite actor. Albert also enjoyed going to breakfast with his longtime friend Bobby Martinez. Albert is survived by his wife Bennie; his children Johnathan Quintana of Monte Vista, Kenny (Kim) Quintana of Alamosa, Benjamin Quintana of Monte Vista, and Felisha (James) Lopez of Alamosa; his grandchildren Jacob (Brittany Martin) Quintana of Alamosa, Melissa (Jeff) Frey of Pueblo, Mindy (Matt) Griego of Colorado Springs, Meagan (David) Dudleston of Alamosa, Morgan (Antonio) Edwards of Colorado Springs, Jackie (Carlos) Lopez of Monte Vista, Brandy (Josh) Quintana of Tucson AZ, Brittany (Erminio Marquez) Quintana of Monte Vista, Jerica (Billy Martinez) Quintana of Monte Vista, Jessica Lopez of Alamosa, and Desirae Lopez of Alamosa; as well as 24 great-grandchildren; his brother Leroy (Sally) Quintana of Alamosa, sisters Ramona (Faustine) Archuleta of Albuquerque, NM, and Bertha Trujillo of California. Long time Monte Vista resident Chris E Glunz passed away peacefully in his home at 83 years old. He was born at home in Elsie, Nebraska on June 20, 1940, to John and Anna (Lovenburg) Glunz. Chris graduated from Elsie High School in 1958 with a graduating class of 9 Seniors. He made his way to Denver, Colorado where he met the mother of his children and they married in 1960. They had 3 children, C. E. , Gary, And Dawn. Chris spent much of his time working and loved being an electrician until his retirement. Chris was very involved with the Monte Vista Elks. He was a Charter member and was the 3rd Exalted Ruler of the Lodge. He was proud to see his children and grandchildren become members as well. Other than the Elks, he enjoyed hunting and being in the mountains. Chris is survived by son C. E. (Shari) Glunz of Monte Vista; his daughter Dawn Martin of Alamosa; 4 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; his brother Jim Glunz of Madrid, Nebraska; 2 sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents; his son Gary; his brothers Jack Glunz and Conrad Glunz; and son-in-law Harold Martin. Monte Vista resident Veta Fay Baumfalk, 92, died August 16, 2023 at her home in Monte Vista under Hospice care. Veta was born in Las Animas, Colorado on February 23, 1931, the daughter of Willie Jones and Viola Mae Andregg Jones. She married William LeRoy Baumfalk on January 19, 1950 in Aztec, New Mexico and they enjoyed 47 years until his death in 1997. Veta grew up in the Delta, Colorado area. After her husband graduated from college, they moved their family to Moffat, Colorado where Veta worked as a Cook in the Moffat Schools and for the Baca Grande, until it closed. She then moved to Rock Springs, Wyoming, where she managed an apartment complex until her retirement. After her husband passed away Veta returned to Colorado, she so she could be closer to her children. She was a lifetime member of the Rebekah Lodge in various places, and held many positions in the organization throughout the years. She was also a life member of the Tri-County Senior Citizens in Monte Vista. She was proud of reaching her goal in TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly), and being part of the Ladies Aide Society in Moffat, CO. In her spare time, she enjoyed crossword puzzles, embroidering, making embroidered quilts for all her family members, as well as her adult coloring books, and Veta was an avid reader. As a young girl, she began collecting salt and pepper shakers, and this grew to over 3000 salt and pepper shaker sets. She even purchased her last set only a few weeks prior to her death. Another of her favorite past time activities was travelling. She is survived by her children V. Marlene (Frank) Vigil of San Luis, CO, Mary Baumfalk of Monte Vista, CO, Richard (Sedona) Baumfalk of Lost Lakes, AK, and Marjorie Johnson of Hesperus, CO; as well as her grandchildren James, Jerry, Jodie, Bill, Lorri, Forrest, Tallen, Grady, Claire, Willow, and Rome; her great grandchildren Isabella, Gabriella, Braden, Morgan, Riley, Taylor, Layton, Lincoln, Mona, and Oliver; one step-grandchild Cheyenne, and one great-great-step-grandchild Alice. Veta is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her siblings Harry Jones, LeRoy Jones, and Mary Lou Jones. Cremation was chosen and private family services will be held at a later date.
