East Lyme, CT
Edmond C. "Ed or Conrad" Bourque, 87, of East Lyme passed away May 6, 2023 in his sleep. Ed was born May 11, 1935 to Edmond F. & Yvette M. Bourque in Boston, MA. After a stint in the Army, he attended UMass Amherst's Engineering/Physics program where he met Edward April, the brother of his future wife and sweetheart for life Carol (April). They were married in 1960 and were blissfully smitten with one another for 63 years. Ed graduated from UMass Amherst with an Engineering/Physics degree in 1960 and added an MBA from UConn later in his working career. He worked at the The Naval Underwater Sound Laboratory until his retirement. During those years, he and Carol raised their family in Montville and East Lyme, CT. Never one to shy from a challenge, Ed was a handyman extraordinaire having built the house in which he raised his family, a skating rink which was turned into a clay tennis court as the family grew up and too many other ambious projects to mention. He was a true inspiration to our family and forever a ham in front of the camera. Ed enjoyed a quiet life with the company of friends and family. In the early years, he sported a devastating drop shot on his tennis court and made several trips to far off places for long distance bike trips. His favorites were the "End-to-end" in the UK (Land's End to John O'Groats) and a route around Lake Champlain in VT that he accomplished in his 60's. He never said no to a game and remained a very competitive cribbage player right up to his last day with us. During his retirement, he was active in a number of organizations and activities. He was an active member of the Niantic Lions Club, Meals on Wheels, he served as President of the East Lyme Public Library Board of Trustees and ran various tax preparation assistance programs for those in need. Ed is survived by his wife Carol and his sisters Lorraine (DeCourcey) and Rachelle (Hunt). He leaves his 4 children David (wife Carey) of Old Lyme, Corinne Impellitteri of Uncasville, Andre (wife Sarah) of Ashland, MA and Elizabeth Buerkert (husband John) of Dallas, TX and grandchildren Devin, Shane, Rebecca (husband Chris), Emily (husband Kyle), Justin, Ethan, William, Stephen, David, Sophia and great grandchildren Natalie and Charlotte. Dad, Ed, Conrad, Sweetheart, Papa - we will forever love and miss you. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the East Lyme Public Library or the Niantic Lions Club. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a. m. Thursday May 11, at St. Matthias Church, 317 Chesterfield Road, East Lyme. Interment will follow at East Lyme Cemetery, Boston Post Road in East Lyme. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p. m. Wednesday, May 10, at Thomas Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 48 Grand Street, Niantic. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy for the family may be shared at www. neilanfuneralhome. com
