Edith Virginia Crutcher Nee Colvard Passed away peacefully in her home on October 5, 2023 Edie was born on June 8, 1924 in Jefferson, North Carolina, the oldest daughter of Fred and Zora Colvard For almost a century, her inquisitive mind and passionate energy made her a leader in numerous fields including the arts, education and social work Her world travels provided a platform for creative contributions and individual growth Edie was an engaging story teller, a world class hostess, an exotic chef and a trend setter On a federal level, Edie served as a Commissioner of the Indian Arts and Crafts Board of the Department of the Interior As a presidential appointee to the Board of Trustees of the Institute of American Art in Santa Fe, she continued to work for many years with issues concerning the Native American Community and the Arts In addition, Edie served as director on the board of the National Museum of Women in the Arts, and as Chair of the NMWA National Advisory Board Edie was a member of the USIA Arts Committee of the United States Information Agency and was also active as a Director and Chairman of the Wolf Trap Associates In her native North Carolina, Edie received the Order of the Long Leaf Pine for her continued promotion of the arts and educational programs including the Playwright's Project and the Lees McRae Wildlife Program Edie made a notable contribution in public relations efforts for social work programs As a field representative for the Navy Relief Society, she directed activities at Navy and Marine installations throughout the world Edie was an honors graduate of Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, N C, where she served as Trustee and received the Distinguished Alumni Award She continued her education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she honed her interest in journalism while working on the Daily Tar Hill staff Edie Crutcher was predeceased her husband, the Honorable John William Crutcher, and is survived by her son, George Koen (and his wife, Nancy) and by her daughter, Sandra Barrett In addition, "Granny Edie" is survived by four grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren Following a private family service, the family will receive guests at a celebration of Edie's life at noon on October 12, 2023 at Jefferson Landing Country Club In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions may be directed to Ashe Food Pantry, Inc, PO Box 705, (115 Colvard Street), Jefferson, NC 28640 or to the charity of your choice The family remains grateful and wishes to thank her caregivers, the staff of Medi Home Hospice, and Ashe Memorial Hospital for their compassionate assistance

Cindy Merkley (Blanford), 62, left her earthly home for heaven's pearly gates on December 9th, 2023 surrounded by her family, at the Linda E. White Hospice House after a brief and unexpected illness. Cindy is survived by her best friend and the love her life Timothy Merkley; mother, Norma Blanford; aunt, Erma Kingston; daughters, Sarah (Scott), Abby (Matt), and Allie (Jon); grandchildren, Molly, Lily Mae, Griffin, Gwendolyn, and Madelyn; siblings, Sherry Oakley (Dennis), Timmy Blanford, Todd Blanford (Cheryl), Scott Blanford (Rachel), and John Blanford; brother-in-laws/sister-in-laws, Betty Brewster (Dan), John Merkley (Donna), Bill Merkley (Becky) as well as several beloved nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her best friend, Misty Hinton, who Mom referred to as the "Lucy to her Ethel". Cindy was preceded in death by her father Walter Blanford. Cindy was born to Norma and Walter Blanford on November 15, 1961. She graduated from Harrison High School and went on to get her LPN license from the Deaconess School of Nursing where she went on to work for Deaconess Hospital and then eventually Deaconess Clinic for a total of 33 years. She met many wonderful co-workers turned friends through her years working as a nurse. She especially enjoyed her years working with Dr. Anne D'Alessandri, Dr. Ruston Stoltz, and Philip Anderson NP. Cindy was better known as "Ninney" by her favorite people, her grandchildren for the last 12 years. She was truly one of a kind and was always looking to help others before herself. Cindy loved to go camping especially around Halloween with her husband, dog Bo, and her kids/grandkids. She was also a huge Disney fan and some of her favorite memories involve her kids/grandkids and visiting the castle wearing her Minnie Mouse Ears. Cindy loved spending time with her family, attending her kids and grandchildren's extracurricular activities, hosting family dinners and game nights. Cindy will be cremated and a celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a. m. Friday, December 15, 2023 at The Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, at 1811 Lincoln Ave. Evansville, IN 47714. Friends may visit from 10:00-11:00 a. m. on December 15, 2023 at The Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer. Friends and Family are welcome to gather for a service, followed by a meal and sharing of memories of Cindy. Ralph William Davis, of Deep Gap passed away at his home on Friday, December 8, 2023 at the age of 80. Mr. Davis was born on March 21, 1943 in Ashe County, North Carolina to the late John Lookabill and Annie Marie Johnson Davis. In addition to his parents Ralph was also preceded in death by one sister, Sue Smith. A proud veteran, Ralph served his country honorably in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, completing two tours overseas with valor and dedication. His commitment to his country extended beyond his military service, shaping his strong work ethic and values. After his time in the Air Force, Ralph spent many years working for the Dr. Pepper bottling company in West Jefferson. His dedication to his job was matched only by his love for buying and selling cars. His passion for automobiles was evident to anyone who knew him, and he turned this passion into a successful business venture. Mr. Davis is survived by his wife, Carole Segraves Davis, brother and sister-in laws, Johnny Calvin Segraves (Ollie), Brenda Simmons (Doug), Phil Segraves (Pat), James Lee Segraves (Caralee), Steve Segraves (Linda), Pat Blevins, Roy Segraves (Debbie) and Roger Segraves (Mary). Mollie Gayle (Timmons) Gerling, 85, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother "Nannah", left her earthly home on December 2, 2023, to be with her Savior Jesus Christ and her loved ones who have gone before her, including parents, Barney and Katherine Mary (Bush) Timmons, son, Gary L. Gerling II, sister Dana Faye Brubaker, and brother James Robert Timmons. Mollie was born in Evansville, IN, on September 22, 1938, to the late Barney and Katherine Mary (Bush) Timmons. She graduated from Bosse High School, class of 1956. She also was proud to have attended courses at the University of Evansville and Indiana University as part of her career as a realtor. Mollie's first career was as a homemaker and community volunteer. She was a member of Junior League of Evansville, Legal Mrs, and Tri-Kappa. Mollie was incredibly proud of her work for the Evansville Museum Art Guild, Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra Guild, and the Boy Scouts Buffalo Trace Council. Many will have known Mollie from her work as a fashion consultant at Ruth Kishline's Country Clothes, as manager and buyer for the Ivy Tree Gift Shop at Welborn Hospital, as a realtor, and as a prolific Indiana Artist. However, Mollie's favorite jobs were mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Affectionately known as "Molliedoodle" by her father, Mollie had a lively sense of humor, an abundant creative spirit, enormous physical energy, and no small amount of silliness. She impressed people with her beauty, style, and creative talent and delighted people with her earthy jokes, theatrical behavior, and head-first plunges into many adventures and careers. Mollie's family would like to thank the staff of Compassus Hospice, the Waters of Rockport, Heritage Woods, and Envive, especially Jenny, Bailey, Jordan, Erica, and Amy. In addition, Mollie's family would like to thank Jim Davis, who provided spiritual solace to Mollie during the final stage of her life. Mollie is survived by her three children, Grant L. Gerling (Katrina), Gayle L. Gerling Pettinga (Mark), and Gretchen L. Gerling; and was blessed with eight grandchildren and their spouses, Lindsay Gerling Nentrup (Craig), Cara Gerling, Crystal Brown-Schmidt (Jake Schmidt), Alexander Gerling (Madison), Adriana Pettinga, Emma Pettinga Cornell (Richie), Adam Gerling, Madeline Huggins +(Davorin Clark), and Christian Huggins; eight great-grandchildren, Gemma and Hadley Nentrup, Jonah Gerling, Charlie and Marci Schmidt, Iris Wingo, Oliver Burris, and Asher Huggins; a large and loving extended family with many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews whom Mollie loved very much; many dear friends she loved, including life-long friends, Don and Abba Jean Graf, Barbara Vandever, Marge Talley, Mary Lou Leedy, and Julie Johnson; and the many friends of her children who frequented her home. Joshua Isaiah Latham, a beloved son, brother and friend who brought immense joy to all who knew him, passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2023. Although he was just 18 years old, he had already carved out a niche for himself as someone with a magnetic personality and a love for various activities. Born in Wilkes County, North Carolina on July 28, 2005, Josh lived a life that was as colorful as the many passions he held dear. He was a young man brimming with energy, enthusiasm, and an infectious love for life. Josh was preceded in death by his great-grandfather, Walter Latham, great-grandmothers, Betty Jones and Kathy Ridenhour, uncle, Stevie Roark and cousin, Cody Keen. Josh could find happiness in the simplest pleasures and shared it generously with everyone around him. Josh had a passion for shooting guns, finding excitement in the precision and skill required. His enthusiasm extended to the virtual realm, where he found enjoyment in gaming, particularly the popular game, Fortnite. Whether in the real world or the digital one, Josh was always up for an adventure. An outdoors enthusiast, Josh loved spending time in nature, whether it was a day at the beach or a casual ride on the golf cart. His free spirit and love for the simple pleasures in life made every moment with him memorable. Music was another one of Josh's great loves. He knew so many songs and had the ability to sing anything that would come on the radio. Known for his talent for making everyone laugh, Josh's humor could brighten even the darkest of days. His comedic genius knew no bounds; from his hilarious antics, funny faces, to his knack for inventing jokes and playfully mixing up words, he effortlessly lifted the spirits of everyone in his presence. Josh is survived by his parents, Joshua Allen and Kacey Noelle Latham. In addition to his parents, Josh leaves behind his brothers Austin Latham (Chloe), Landon Easter, and Jackson Latham, as well as his sisters Alyssa Latham and Kloey Easter, paternal grandparents, Ronnie (Angela) Latham and Lucille Latham, maternal grandparents, Marty and Debbie Cook, paternal great-grandmother, Mattie Latham, maternal great-grandparents, Jesse Jones and Roger Cook (Betty). He is also survived by a wide circle of family members, including several aunts, uncles, and cousins who will miss him dearly. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. Eddie Bobbit. Merita Della Rose Price Blevins, a beacon of warmth and compassion, entered this world on August 15, 1940, in Ashe County, NC. Born to the late Harvey and Alice Canter Price. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Ocie Price, brother, Sidney Price, son, James Greer and husband, Minister Leonard J. Blevins. Her active involvement with the Ashe County Women's Club and Homemakers Club showcased Merita's commitment to fostering connections and supporting the well-being of her neighbors. An advocate for Celebrate Recovery, she lent her strength to those navigating the challenging path to recovery, providing a source of inspiration and encouragement. Grounded in her faith, Merita found solace and purpose in singing hymns alongside her late husband and fellow congregants in various churches. As a cherished member of Open Arms Fellowship, she exemplified the values of love, and community. Merita's defining trait was her selflessness. Always extending a helping hand to those in need, she prioritized the welfare of others above her own. Her caring nature went beyond words, as she consistently devoted herself to the well-being of those around her. A proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Merita found her greatest pride in the bonds of family. Surviving are her daughter, Della Carter (Sonny Eastridge) of Jefferson, sister, Hilbish Jones (Robert) of Crumpler, granddaughter, Ashley Tolliver (Jacob), great grandchildren, Emily, Caroline and Amelia Tolliver, aunt, Shirley Canter, special cousin, Barbara Testerman, nephews, Bobby Jones and Jimmy Price. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those she touched, leaving behind a tapestry of love, kindness, and service.
