Edeltraud M. (Schimschal) England, "Edel," age 90, of Somerset, passed away Monday, October 2, 2023 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Maurice A. England, Sr. Born in Branitz Kreis Leobschutz, Germany, she was a daughter of the late Alois and Klara (Mrasek) Schimschal. She came to the United States in 1955 living in New York. In 1962, she moved to Massachusetts and settled in Somerset in 1970. Mrs. England was a communicant of St. Thomas More Church. She devoted her life to caring for her family and raising her children. She was a member of the German Club in Pawtucket, taught culinary classes and worked as a caterer. She cherished the time she spent with her beloved family especially her grandchildren. She is survived by four children, Raymond England and his wife Donna of Laconia, NH, Norman England and his fiancee Millie Scott of Fall River, Maurice England, Jr. and his wife Michelle of Berkley and Doris Diniz and her husband Terry of Assonet; two sisters, Rosa Hierlwimmer and her husband Anton of Reichertshofen, Germany and Erika Hoffman of Taufkirchen Vils, Germany; six grandchildren, Michael, Katie, Jessica, Scott, Taylor and Sydney; two great grandchildren, James and Christopher along with many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Gerhard Schimschal. Her Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 10:00AM at St. Thomas More Church, 386 Luther Ave. , Somerset, MA. Herberto S. "Herbie" Freitas, age 60, passed away Monday, November 6, 2023 in Brigham and Women's Hospital with his loved ones by his side, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was the loving husband of Maria (Carreiro) Freitas with whom he shared 39 years of marriage. Born in Faial, Azores, Portugal the son of Celestino and Angela (Serpa) Freitas, he resided in Taunton before relocating to the town of Somerset. A Facilities Manager for several nursing homes, he worked for Wedgemere Healthcare in Taunton for 19 years before taking an early retirement in 2022. With an appreciation for the outdoors, he delighted in his long visits to Colt State Park, being by the ocean, cutting his grass, landscaping and long rides in his Jeep. He enjoyed painting landscapes, being a member of the Taunton Eagles Soccer Club and was a fan of the Sporting Portuguese soccer team. Mr. Freitas was a truly selfless man who generously gave a helping hand whenever he could. His greatest love was his family. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Brian Freitas and his wife Emily of Riverside, RI; two daughters, Ashley Schofield and her husband Brandon of Dighton and Tiffany Auclair and her husband Matthew of Somerset; one brother, Elvis Freitas and his wife Michelle and five grandchildren, Selena Stroh, Nolet Auclair, Leon Auclair, Abigail Freitas and Wyatt-James Freitas. His Funeral Service will be held on Monday, November 13, 2023 at 10:00 AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Rose E. Sullivan, 866 County Street, Somerset followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM in Our Lady of Peace Parish - St. Louis de France, 56 Buffinton Street, Somerset. Relatives and friends are invited. Donna M. Querim, 67 of Prospect CT, formerly of Somerset MA passed away Sunday, October 29, 2023. She was the daughter of the late William B. and Natalie (Couto) Querim. Born in New Bedford, Donna was a graduate of New Bedford High School and earned an Associate, Bachelor and Masters degree in Nursing. Donna also earned a Juris Doctorate degree in law from Southern New England School of Law/UMASS. Donna was dedicated to her vocation of helping others. She was employed for 40 years as a Registered Nurse for Southcoast Hospital Group. As a nurse clinician she loved working in the community conducting cholesterol screenings and heart health education throughout the Southcoast area. Donna was also a Board Licensed Attorney and had planned on representing those in need after retirement. Donna loved family and always liked hosting big family gatherings. She also loved her two cats dearly. She enjoyed traveling to the Azores, Italy, California, Vegas and Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. She also enjoyed playing golf with friends and was an ardent New England Patriots fan. She is survived by her brothers: Dana Querim and his wife Becky of South Carolina, and David Querim and his wife Corinne of Massachusetts; as well as her two nieces: Angie Campanale and her husband Mark of FL and Niki Querim and her finance Edmund Cucchi and their son Dylan of NY; and many close cousins. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Her services will be announced in the very near future.Show more

Randall R. Richard, age 62, of Somerset, MA, passed away Thursday, October 26, 2023 after a brief illness. Born in Fall River, son of the late Ronald R. and Audette (Bishop) Richard, he was a lifelong resident of Somerset. He was a graduate of Somerset High School class of 1979 and UMass Dartmouth, receiving his Bachelor of Arts in English, and earning an MA Teacher's Certificate from Bridgewater State University. Mr. Richard's patient and calm demeanor serviced him well as a Job Coach for People's Inc. for the past 12 years and as an English Teacher at Bishop Connelly High School for 16 years prior. "Randy" was an avid sports fan, not only watching all sports at all levels, but often citing statistics on past and current players' performance. He was especially passionate about his beloved Boston sports teams and frequently visited McCoy Stadium to watch the Pawtucket Red Sox. Randy enjoyed collecting sports memorabilia and was proud of his autographed baseball card collection. He had a penchant for trivia and his family will sorely miss his competitive spirit during holiday game nights. He was a long-time communicant at St. Patrick's Church, Somerset and was a member of the men's club. He is survived by one brother, Mark B. Richard M. D. and his wife Stacy of Hampstead, NH and one sister, Lisa M. Barnes and her husband Russ of Old Orchard Beach, ME. He was the proud uncle to two nieces and three nephews, Elizabeth M. Mayell and her husband Zephan of Manhattan, NY, Nicholas M. Richard of Dorchester, MA, Jacob R. Barnes of Newton, MA, Matthew J. Richard of San Francisco, CA and Hannah E. Cathleen A. Shea, age 66, of Hampstead, NH, formerly of Somerset, MA, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, July 15, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. Cathy was born in Fall River, the daughter of the late Arthur E. Shea Jr. and the late Barbara I. (McDonald) Shea. She was a graduate of Somerset High School, class of 1974 and earned her Bachelor's Degree from UMass Amherst, class of 1978. Cathy was a Technology Risk Analyst with Fidelity Investments in Merrimack, NH for 15 years until her retirement. She was a passionate member of the Women's Networking and Leadership groups where she made many lifelong friends. Prior to that she held various positions at Verizon for 20 years. Cathy was Captain of the Shea clan; the ultimate Mom, Grammy, Big Sister, and Aunt. She spent her days chasing around her grandsons, with toes in the water at Bakers Beach, and skiing with friends at Loon Mountain. She was the biggest cheerleader for everyone in her life. She was known for bringing people together at a moment's notice and every day with her was, to quote, "so much fun!". Cathleen is survived by her two children Devan Emily Shea of Hampstead, NH and Michael T. Shea and his wife Nicole of Londonderry, NH; two grandchildren Jack and Andrew Johnston; six brothers Timothy B. Shea and his wife Marylou of Somerset, Brendan J. Shea and his fiancee Brett Schmidt of Ouray, CO, Patrick J. Shea and his wife Denise of N. Dighton, Barry M. Shea and his wife Andrea of Somerset, Kevin R. M. Jeanne (LaPierre) Kozak, of Somerset, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 26, 2023 at the age of 95. She was pre-deceased by her husband of 58 years Frederick "Freddie" A. Kozak. Born in Fall River, the daughter of the late Gideon and Margaret (Menchion) LaPierre, she became a resident of Somerset in 1960 when she and her husband purchased their family home. A graduate of the former Sacred Heart Academy, class of 1946, she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Education in 1950 from Bridgewater State University. She worked as a first-grade teacher at Chace Street School in Somerset for 23 years retiring in 1992. Prior to that, she taught in Fall River and was a member of the Massachusetts Municipal Retired Employees Association. She was also a member of the Bristol County Retired Teachers Association and served as Secretary from 2000 to 2002. An active communicant of St. Thomas More Church, she enjoyed reading, baking, listening to music, singing, the theater, trivia games, playing cards and going to the beach. Jeanne loved spending time with her family. She is survived by her five daughters, Kathryn Langone and her husband Louis of Townsend, MA, Nancy Kozak of North Eastham, MA, Karen Turco of West Yarmouth, MA, Elizabeth "Betsy" Roderick and her husband James of West Yarmouth, MA, Susan Kozak of Raleigh, NC, four grandchildren, two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
