In Loving Memory of Ed DavisJuly 3, 1952 - September 29, 2023Edward (Ed) Macdonald Davis, 71, of Cedar Park, TX, passed away peacefully at home, with his wife, Jenny, by his side. He was born in Houston, TX. , to John Wallace Davis and Billie Pitman Davis. His father's job as an accountant for an oil tools company took them to Longview, TX. And, then back to Houston for high school and then to Tyler Junior College. He returned to Houston after college to become an electrician. In 1975, at age 23, he took a job in pipeline construction. He married Jenny Frederick Nickel, on October 24, 1981, in Houston, TX, where they met and lived till they moved to Tyler, TX, in 1989, and spent 16 years. In 2005, upon Ed's retirement, they moved to Cedar Park, TX to be near family and friends and enjoy the hill country that Jenny loved. It was in this brand new house on a brand street that he cultivated a fatherly friendship figure for the young families also moving in who he proudly showed how to hang Christmas lights, trade recipes with the Mom's, corral the wandering little ones and enjoy his new life as a stay at home guy. He has a special bond with these treasured neighbors and they have made the best 18 years for Ed on Silver Oak Trail. He was a remarkable man whose life was defined by hard work, love, and commitment to his family and dedication to his job as a pipeline service technician with CRC Evans Automatic Welding, for 30 years. His job took him all over the world laying oil and gas pipelines with a 3 months time away and 2 weeks home schedule. During the 2 week time off, he enjoyed fishing the East Texas lakes when they lived in Tyler, with his best buddy Jim Drake, that he met in high school in Houston, and has remained his lifelong friend along with Tony Isacks. His final pipeline job was 4 months on Sakhalin, a Russian island in the Pacific Ocean, north of Japan, working in 3 degrees below zero. His first pipeline job was at the age of 23 in Turkey. He possessed a dedication to complete miles and miles of oil and gas pipelines under extreme conditions with foreign coworkers. Hence, he had a talent for picking up many foreign languages. Ed's fellow pipeliners regarded him as a true leader in the field, often seeking his guidance and expertise. In 2014, Ed's breathing problems started to keep him more homebound. A dear friend's daughter, Lexi, came to Austin to start college at this time and offered to care for Ed while she went to college. It was a blessed relationship from the beginning that Ed cherished. Upon her graduation, her new career in the health industry took her back home to Dallas. And just about that time, Jenny retired to have 3 great years caring for Ed. Ed's devotion extended beyond his career. It was equally evident in his role as a husband. He shared an enduring and loving partnership with his wife, Jenny, for 42 years. Their bond was a testament to the power of love, respect, and unwavering support, inspiring all who knew them. Ed is survived by his wife, Jenny, his brother Jay, (Jenny), brother Clark, (Rosie), his brother-in-law, Jason (Magan) and brother-in-laws, David and Kenneth, and many nieces and nephews. His cousin Gail (Rusty) Brown and their daughters Maggie (Trey) and Delaney (Holden) were a constant source of love and support for Ed. He is predeceased by his parents. A memorial service to celebrate Ed's life will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Beck Funeral Home, 1700 E. Whitestone Blvd. , Cedar Park, TX, 78613.
