Effie Almond

Age - 87

July 7, 2023

Effie John (Fowler) Almond of San Antonio, TX (originally from Royston, Georgia) passed peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, July 2, 2023. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Hubert Almond; daughter Tonya Sauls (Vernon); sister, Elvena Griffin; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins who were immensely touched by her love and generous heart. Effie was preceded in death by her parents, Johnnie and Nellie Brown Fowler, of Royston, Georgia; brothers, Compton R. Fowler and TJ Fowler of Royston Georgia and brother, Watson Fowler of Hull, Georgia and sister, Bertie Fleeman of Smyrna, Georgia. The name "Effie" has its origins in Greek and means "well spoken". . . and that she was!Effie will be remembered fondly by family and friends because of the amazing woman of God she was and the legacy she leaves behind. A devoted wife and mother, who loved her family and friends to the fullest, Effie always allowed God's light to shine through her. She was a wonderful influence in the lives many people. The lives she touched are countless; from her family and friends to the many children she babysat and their families, along with the youth she helped lead at church. Effie was a planter of the seeds of God's word and so many fortunate people came to know Christ personally because of her. She had an uncanny way with children and many people were blessed by her home childcare services. She treated each child as her own and instilled such wonderful values and morals in their lives as well as their families. No safer and loving care could a child be left in than hers. She was a giver of joy, she never let on when a toddler did something for the first time and allowed the parents to tell her something new had happened, even if she really had witnessed it first. She was an adventurous lady who enjoyed traveling all over the country with her husband and family. She was dedicated to her husband and daughter and supported and encouraged them in all of their aspirations, including being at a cold ice rink at 5am almost daily to support her daughters skating career. Effie had a smile that lit up the room, beautiful blue eyes that sparkled and exuded love and a laugh that was contagious. She was such a kind soul who loved everyone she met and treated them like family. She had a way of making everyone feel welcome and at home with the most generous and hospitable traits. You needn't worry about having your favorite foods to eat or a warm bed to sleep in when visiting because she loved and gave wholeheartedly. Effie gave the greatest gift of all - her time and she never asked for anything in return. She lived out what the Bible taught, she was neighborly, she gave to the poor, she looked after the widows and orphans, she treated others as she wanted to be treated, she tithed, and she loved. Effie was love to so many. She lived humbly and gave thanks because she knew she was so blessed. She was a prayer warrior and you knew you were well prayed over when she was made aware of a need. Even in her dementia, when she prayed, it was clear as day and authoritative. She was the finest example of what a woman could and should be. Effie will be missed tremendously by all who knew her but we know she be waiting for us with arms open wide when we meet her again. Effie had a heart for Missions. . . in lieu of flowers, if anyone is so inclined and wants to do something in her memory, feel free to donate to your favorite charity or a missions charity. She always wanted others to be taken care of.Show more
