Earl E Thompson passed away at his home October 1, 2023 He was born November 4, 1948 to Joseph and Anna (Schramm) Thompson Earl was a kind, quiet, and headstrong man Once he set his mind to something, there was no convincing him otherwise He worked several jobs over the years but spent most of his life living and working on the farm baling hay, cutting wood and fixing things for people He was a member of the Jacques Cartier Club and the Polish Club, where he liked to go to have a few beers and get updated on the latest local news He is survived by his son James Thompson, daughter in law Tammy and grandson Mason He is also survived by his sisters Anna Marie Reiner, Betty Blocker, Mary Mingoia, Barbara Thompson as well as several nieces and nephews He is predeceased by his life partner Joan (Kitty) Pond, and brother David Thompson Calling hours will be held Thursday October 12, 2023 from 5 to 7PM at the Gagne Piechowski Funeral Home 490 Voluntown Road, Jewett City, CT Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family To to the family or in memory of Earl Eugene Thompson, please

Preston - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary L. (Pickens) Jensen, 76, on December 1, 2023, surrounded by her family. Mary Lou was born in New London on November 27, 1947 to the late Russell and Una (Nelson) Pickens. After graduating from Waterford High School in 1965, she began her career at the Naval Submarine Base in Groton, CT, starting in the supply department and moving up to the Comptroller Department, retiring in October 2003 after 38 years. Mary Lou was united in marriage to Jens H. Jensen on May 20, 1972. She was preceded in death by her husband (June 2001), her son Gary Lee (Feb 1998), daughter Lori Lynn (Oct 1994), her parents, Russell (July 1993), Una (Feb 2011), and her brother Russ (Dec 2013). She is survived by her sister Carol (Pickens) Beckwith, brother-in-law, Marty Beckwith of Griswold, two nephews Robert Truken of Sterling, CT and Douglas Truken of Norwich, brother-in-law Ken Quam, nephews Kurt, Kris and Scott Quam of Iowa. She was a member of the Preston City Congregational Church where she served on many committees including Shepherding, Building, Supper, Flower, Coffee Hour, Nominating Committee, asst financial secretary, Deacon, treasurer and ran the bingo at Strawberry Park in Preston for several years. She was a Preston Housing Commissioner for elderly housing since 1999, past president of Preston City Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and an active member of the Fire Department. She held the positions of secretary, treasurer, Ways & Means Committee and Statistician. She became a life member of the fire department in March, 2004. She served as a member of the Ella T. Grasso Southeastern CT Regional Vocational Technical School Parent-Faculty Organization, where she held the position of secretary. She was a member and Chairperson of Cub Scout Pack 36 in Waterford In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Preston City Congregational Church or to the Preston City Volunteer Fire Department. Her family will receive relatives and friends from 9:00-11:00AM on December 13, 2023 at the Preston City Congregational Church Route 164 Preston, CT. Theodore (Ted) J. Zajehowski, Jr. (83) of Jewett City, CT passed away after a long illness on November 28, 2023 at Colonial Health and Rehab with his wife by his side. He was born in Norwich, CT on August 30, 1940 to the late Theodore, Sr. and Eileen (Manseau) Zajehowski. Ted graduated from Griswold High School and Norwich Commercial College and spent his entire 34-year career working in the local banking industry. He served 6 years in the US Army Reserves. While his son was growing up, Ted was very active with Teddy in judo, little league, and scouting activities. He was a member of the Griswold Board of Finance and the past president of the Plainfield Rotary Club. Ted was an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a charter member of the Oanaco Council #6642 of Knights of Columbus and served as treasurer for many years. Ted was a 33-year cancer survivor and received the 2005 Eastern Connecticut Road to Recovery Award for devoting his time for over 10 years driving people to and from radiation and chemo treatment. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Claire (Pelletier) Zajehowski. He is also survived by his grandson, Matthew Zajehowski; his daughter-in-law, Kimberley Zajehowski; and a brother, Dennis, of Jewett City, CT. He was predeceased by his only son, Theodore (Ted) III, on April 2, 2016. Calling hours will be at Gagne-Piechowski Funeral home, 490 Voluntown Road, Jewett City, CT on Friday, December 8, 2023 from 5:00 - 7:00pm. A mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, December 9, 2023 at 10:00am at St. Catherine of Sienna Church, 243 Route 164, Preston, CT. Burial will follow immediately at Pachaug Cemetery, Griswold, CT. The family wishes to thank all of the staff of Colonial Health and Rehab for their excellent care of and compassion shown to Ted during his stay. Griswold- Gail Elizabeth Sigler, 76, passed away Wednesday November 8th, 2023 at her home surrounded by her loved ones. She was a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother. She was born on April 10th, 1947 in Norwich the daughter of Joseph Sandberg and Virginia Wascik. Gail graduated from Montville highschool. She had then met the love of her life shortly after high school, Joseph Rex Sigler, from Ohio when he was stationed in Connecticut while serving in the US Navy. They were married shortly after and soon had three children. Joseph Rex Sigler II, Krista Field Sigler and Valerie Elizabeth Sigler. Gail was a very successful business owner and entrepreneur. She had then retired to care for her grandchildren. Her grandchildren had brought her great joy, where she loved to spend time with them and family. She was very involved with Norwich Little League and served on their board for 11 years and then later on she was involved with NEPHC and served on their board while she carried her love of horses with her. Gail is survived by her husband, Joseph Rex Sigler, her three children, Joe, Krista and Valerie and her four grandchildren, Ashley Field, Bryan Field, Brianna Sigler and Shelby Colbridge. Jewett City - William (Bill) J. Czmyr Jr. passed away peacefully at Backus Hospital in Norwich CT. on Friday October 27, 2023 with his family by his side. He was 91. Bill was born on August 25, 1932 to the late William J. Czmyr and Viola Pearl (Lever) Czmyr. Bill is survived by his three sons Mark Czmyr wife Patricia Courter-Czmyr, Luke Czmyr and wife Meg (Palonen) Czmyr, John Czmyr wife Audrey (Stangle) Czmyr. His six grand children, Britton (Higby) Czmyr and husband Gregory, Cody Czmyr and husband John (Troxel) Czmyr, David Czmyr and wife Cassie (Ossowski) Czmyr, Maegan (Boniface) Czmyr and husband Jeff, Taylor Czmyr and Ryan Czmyr. He had two step grandchildren, Zachary Korenkiewicz and Jenna Korenkiewicz, as well as eight great grand children. Bill worked in the Glasgo Finishing Company as a maintenance foreman on the finishing machines before enlisting the US Navy in 1955 as a Machinist Mate aboard the YAGR-1 Guardian. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1957. After he was discharged from the Navy he worked at General Dynamics, Electric Boat Division in Groton, working there for 37 years as an outside machinist, retiring in 1994. After retirement Bill became actively involved in The American Legion Post 15 in Jewett City. He advocated for the lack of permanent housing for homeless veterans in the area. Bill was instrumental and championed for The American Legion Post 15 Veterans Housing Project. He was also the President of the American Legion Ambulance. Bill touched many hearts and lives as a valued member of AA of more than 44 years. Bill was a humble man. He never took direct credit for any accomplishment, he often said that there were a lot of people that helped along the way. He was a fixture throughout the community and will be greatly missed.
