"Earl Thomas Eakins, beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend peacefully passed away Friday, April 21, 2023 at his daughter's home. He was born April 18, 1930, in Sebree, KY, the eldest son of the late Waverly Thomas Eakins and Mae Walker Eakins. Earl was a charter member of First Southern Baptist Church in Evansville. He married his wife of 60 years, Marilyn G. Fetscher on August 25, 1956. They loved to travel domestically and internationally. He was a 1948 graduate of Bosse High School, where he ran track and played baseball. Earl enjoyed and excelled in sports. He played softball on church leagues and bowled many 300 score games receiving trophies and awards. He retired from Southern Indiana Gas and Electric Company after 30 years of loyal and dedicated service. He was member Number 82 of the Grand Order of the Sword of Bunker Hill. Earl was a 32nd degree Freemason and a member of the Scottish Rite for 70 years where he was a member of a traveling clown squad visiting children in hospitals. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was member of the 2016 Honor Flight out of Evansville, IN. Preceding him in death are his beloved wife, Marilyn G. Eakins; father, Waverley T. Eakins, Sr. ; mother, Mae Walker Eakins; brothers Charles E. Eakins, and Waverly T. Eakins, Jr. ; many uncles and aunts, cousins, and a nephew. Earl is survived by his only child, Sandra G. (Mark) Appler. He leaves a grandson, Kristopher T. Appler (Anne) and two great-grandsons, James Thomas Appler and Hudson Appler; numerous cousins; many nieces and nephews; and loving friends. The family would like to give a very special thanks to Emma, Liz, and John from Heart-to-Heart Home Hospice Care, Dr. David E. Schultz II, MD for his decades of medical expertise and unquestionable kindness to both Earl and Marilyn. Also, Danny and Marsha Harte for years of loyalty as faithful, loving neighbors. Visitation will be from 9:00 am - 11:00 am Thursday, April 27, 2023 at Ziemer East Chapel, 800 South Hebron Avenue, Evansville, IN, immediately followed by funeral services honoring the life of Earl, conducted by Reverend David Cullison of First Southern Baptist Church.
