Charles Dwight Lee, 80, of Delray, WV, passed away on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family and under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle. Dwight was born on May 5, 1943 in Delray, WV, the son of the late Melvin E. and Fannie B. Rudy Lee. His love of working began at a very young age when he accompanied his father up on the mountain to cut timber. Later, he worked for Southern States for 19 1/2 years, retired from Lupton Logging and Pulpwood in 2008. He was a man of many talents. He enjoyed pitching horseshoes, watching WVU basketball, betting the horses, and scratching lottery tickets. He leaves behind in the hearts of his children and grandchildren, his love of baseball and the New York Yankees. Dwight married Marsha Lupton Lee on October 8, 1965, in Cumberland, MD. Surviving with his wife of nearly 58 years are his four children: Jimmy Lee (Michele), Lori Houchens (Joe), Leslie Tingler, and Lindsay Miller (Mike); nine grandchildren: Brittany Griffith, Kevin Lee, Michael, Ryan, Chris and Jeff Houchens, Jared Tingler, and Kayla and Kerra Miller; three great grandchildren: Rhylee & Lincoln Griffith and Aryella Houchens; three sisters: Ruby Hall, Libby & Polly Lee and several nieces & nephews. Dwight is preceded in death by his son-in-law: Eric Tingler and his four brothers: Harlan, Carl, Bob, and Jim Lee. Funeral service will be held at the Giffin Funeral Home & Crematory in Capon Bridge, WV on Monday, September 11, 2023 at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in the Green Lane Cemetery in Delray, WV. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, September 10, 2023 from 3-6 PM. Chester Ray Tharp, 85, of Wardensville, WV died on Monday, December 4, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Chester was born on October 15, 1938, in Wardensville, WV, the son of the late Winfred R. and Bessie V. Whetzel Tharp. Chester was a veteran in the United States Army and a member the Capon Valley Fire Co. , Wardensville VFW #2102, Half Moon Deer Club, and attended St. Peter's Lutheran Church all in Wardenville. He worked as a supervisor for 18 years at Rubbermaid Corp. in Winchester, VA, 5 years as a carpenter & stone mason, and 14 years at Lear Corp. in Strasburg, VA. Chester loved hunting, fishing, working in his shop, and playing horseshoes and spending time at his home place with his brothers and his family. He loved watching his grandchildren playing sports, growing tomatoes, watching the WVU Mountaineers and NASCAR, especially Bill Elliott. Chester married Betty Dunlap on March 30, 1962, in Hagerstown, MD. Surviving with his wife of 61 years are three daughters: Elizabeth "Dee Dee" Fridley of Wardensville, WV; Chestina T. Merriner (Jay) of Winchester, VA; Judith L. Fout (Brad) of Augusta, WV; two brothers: Winfred "Yip" & James "Jim" Tharp both of Wardensville, WV; four sisters: Christine Mathias of Dinwiddie, VA; Shelby Hulver of Baker, WV; Patricia Brill of Capon Springs, WV; Linda Benware of Statesville, NC; seven grandchildren: Seth, Ruby, Abby, Jada, Kayla, Morgan, Ally; and eight great-grandchildren: Jaxson, Cooper, Josiah, Sydney, Ripken, Layah, Andersyn & Aysa. He is preceded in death by a brother: Doug Tharp and a sister: Lorraine Cobb Heishman. A celebration of Chester's life will be held at Faith Mission Church in Wardensville, WV on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at 1:00 PM. Officiating will be Pastors Michael Funkhouser & Robert Oakley. Ronald Maurice "Ron" Strosnider, 75, of Wardensville, WV, died on Friday, October 20, 2023 at the Winchester Medical Center. Ron was born on December 21, 1947 in Winchester, VA, the son of the late Wilbur J. and Nevaline Vincent Strosnider. He attended James Wood High School, Nashville Auto Diesel College and James Rumsey Technical School. He was a mechanic all of his life and there wasn't anything he couldn't fix. Ron worked for Rubbermaid Commercial Products, Simbeck, Inc. and owned & operated Ron's Chevron in Wardensville. He was a member of the Capon Valley Vol. Fire Department having served for 37 years and the Wardensville United Methodist Church serving as a Trustee. Ron had a love of hunting, fishing and taking his grandchildren hunting. He belonged to the Half Moon Hunt Club. One of his hobbies was racing. Whether he was behind the wheel street racing, turning wrenches or watching his favorite NASCAR driver, Dale Earnhart on Sundays. He loved being apart of it. He grew up around the Winchester Speedway helping and competing. Later in life, he was back at his roots when he loved helping his son, Joey, during his short racing term. His favorite past time was spending time with his family, especially his great-grandchildren and going to all of his grandchildren's ball games. His greatest joy was spending time with the love of his life, Pam. Ron married Pamela D. "Pam" Strosnider on May 13, 1978 in Alexandria, VA. Surviving with his wife of 45 years is a son: Joseph C. "Joey" Strosnider of Wardensville, WV; a daughter: Lisa A. Orndorff of Mathias, WV; a son-in-law: Michael Coffman of Wardensville, WV; two sisters: Donna McFarland of Yellow Spring, WV; Dianne Garber of Stephens City, VA and six grandchildren. Shirley was born on October 20, 1936, in Hardy County, the daughter of the late Lomand E. and Leona F. Rinard Heishman. She was a member of Wardensville United Methodist Church having served with the Women's Church Group & choir. Shirley enjoyed music,reading her books and was a valuable greeter at the Loy-Giffin Funeral Home in Wardensville. Shirley married Ray O. Brill on August 23, 1952, in Winchester, VA. Ray died on February 12, 2004. Surviving are two sons: Lomand H. "Ike" Brill (Sharon); David W. Daniel Leslie Morgan Payne, 86, of Wardensville, WV, died on Friday, September 8, 2023, at his home. Morgan was born on October 12, 1936, in Wardensville, WV, the son of the late Daniel L. and Catherine Henderson Payne. Morgan was a veteran in the United States Army serving in the Korean War, worked for 43 years as a mail carrier in Wardensville, and 25 years at ABEX in Winchester, VA. He loved cars with shiny wheels and was particular about the cleanliness of his vehicles. He was a collector of model cars, and was a NASCAR fan especially Dale Earnhardt, Sr. , and Jimmy Johnson. Morgan enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time with his family. Morgan married Carol Lockhart on December 24, 1988, in Winchester, VA.
