Dwayne Everette Dickens, age 57, of Keeling, VA, passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2023. Mr. Dickens was born on December 18, 1965,in Maryland, a son of Bernard Lee Dickens (Wanda) and Diana Gertrude Berry Dickens. Mr. Dickens lived most of his life in Keeling and was employed as a welder with A&A Mechanical. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Sherri Blevins Dickens; son, Chase Lee Dickens; daughters, Sasha Puckett (James Aaron Puckett) and Kambree Dawn Dickens; grandchildren, Kaden Puckett, Kenzie Puckett and Waylen Puckett; sister, Debbie Lucille Souder; his brother Dickie's wife, Donna Dix Dickens; and by many nieces and nephews. Mr. Dickens was predeceased by his sister, Donna Leigh Anderson; and brother, Dickie Darnell Dickens. Memorial services will be conducted Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Swicegood Funeral Home with Reverend Duane Blevins officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service and at other time the family will receive friends at Sherri's residence, 620 Little Creek Rd. Ringgold, VA, 24586. Alice May Snead Scearce, 84, of Danville, VA passed away Monday, December 4, 2023. Alice was born March 31, 1939, in Rockingham County, NC to the late Posey Snead and the late Mozelle Coward Snead. Alice was a loving mother and grandmother and she found great joy and fulfilment in helping raise her family. She was a longtime member of Woodberry Hill Baptist Church, having served in many capacities, such as a Trustee and Sunday School Teacher. She enjoyed traveling, crocheting, knitting, and was a master gardener. After many years of service as RN/BSN Alice retired from Danville Regional Medical Center. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Pruitt (Ken); sons, Donnie Scearce (Poogie), and Greg Scearce; grandchildren, Jayme Scearce, Rhyan Scearce, Eric Pruitt, and Erin Pruitt; sister, Martha S. Hundley; and brothers, Everette Snead (Sharon), and William "Bill" Snead. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by two brothers, Robert "Bob" Snead, and Jack R. Snead. A funeral will be held at 11:00 a. m. , Thursday, December 7, 2023, at Norris Funeral Services, West End Chapel, 511 Church Ave. , Danville, VA 24541 with Pastor Richard Motley officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 a. m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Roberts-Snead Family Cemetery, 1402 Snead Rd. , Stoneville, NC. Nancy Ritchie Hopkins, age 68 of Danville, VA passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at her residence. Mrs. Hopkins was born August 20, 1955 in Charlotte, NC to the late Betty Allen Richie and the late Boyde Franklin Ritchie. She was married to Rev. Joseph Steven Hopkins. Mrs. Hopkins was a member of Pathway Church, and was devoted in her faith in Jesus Christ. She graduated from Cabarrus Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse. She retired from Moorehead Hospital, working in the OR and post-surgical care units. She will always be remembered as a kindhearted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to all who knew her. In addition to her beloved husband of the residence, she is also survived by three daughters, Shari Miller, Kristie Janik (Cody), and Laura Motley (Jon); four grandchildren, Olivia Miller, Micah Miller, Ryder Motley, and Leighton Motley; three step-grandchildren, Cole Underwood, Sydney Underwood, and Anna Motley; and two brothers, Steven Ritchie (Tammy) and Allen Richie (Angie). The family would like to acknowledge and extend their gratitude to Commonwealth Hospice, and special thanks to Irene Fitzgerald for her loving care of Mrs. Hopkins. Shirley Ann Williams Strange, 86, of 4765 Cascade Road, Cascade, VA, passed away, Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at her residence. Born August 29, 1937 in Pittsylvania County, VA, she was the daughter of the late Walter Williams and Almeda Adams Williams. She was married to Walter Strange, who survives. In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include, three daughters, Angela Wade (Steven) of Eden, NC, Vanessa Thomas of Danville, VA and Janet Abram of Greensboro, NC; five sons, Alger Strange (Vickie) of Danville, VA, Lawrence Strange (Gwendolyn), Ricky Strange (Debra), Michael Strange all of Cascade, VA and Martin Strange of Tallahassee, FL; six sisters, Mary Wytch, Virginia Ingram, Donna Adams (Sherman) all of Cascade, VA, Minnie Giles (Culas), Josephine Stockten (Richard) both of Martinsville, VA and Wanda Clements (Marcellus) of Greensboro, NC; two brothers, Freddie Williams (Doris) of Martinsville, VA and Joseph Williams (Rose) of NJ and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by eight sisters, Catherine Dillard, Leona Hairston, Martha Ann Wilson, Viola Adams, Nannie Bell Strange, Alberta Walker, Annie Best and Rosetta Keen; two brothers, Charles Williams and Grover Williams. The family will receive friends at the residence. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, December 4, 2023 at 11 AM from Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. F. D. Noel, Eulogist. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be held on Sunday, December 3, 2023 from 4-6 PM from Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home. Donnie Ray Spencer Sr. , 74, passed away on November 24, 2023. He was born in Danville, VA, on September 25, 1949, to the late Vivian Stutz Stirewalt and the late Aaron "Bill" Spencer. He is survived by his loving wife of many years, Mrs. Rebecca Thompson Spencer. Donnie was a member of Central Boulevard Church of God. He also taught Sunday School at Brookdale Senior Living and taught a Bible class at Bright Leaf Place Assisted Living. He worked for 36 years as a bridge inspector for Norfolk Southern Railroad before his retirement. Donnie also proudly served his country in the U. S. Air Force. In addition to his wife, Donnie is survived by a son; D. J. Spencer and wife Carmen of Danville, VA; a daughter; Janelle Spencer Gammon of Danville, VA; four grandchildren; Kayla Spencer Fisher and husband Craig, Karli Tate Manley and husband Nathan, Sophia Spencer, and Jacob Almashy, and two great-grandchildren; Sadie Mae Manley and Atlas Almashy. In addition to his parents, Donnie was predeceased by a brother; Aaron Bill Spencer Jr. , and a brother-in-law; Butch Thompson.
