Mr. Silas Larry Culver, age 72, of Blackshear, passed away Wednesday night (2/28/24) at HCA Florida Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville following an extended illness. Born May 8, 1951, in Greenfield, Tennessee, he was a son of the late W.J. and Emma O’Steen Culver. Living most of his life in Pierce County, he graduated from Blackshear High School in 1971. He had worked as a homebuilder for Hannah Builders in Waycross and as a self-employed contractor for several years before becoming a farmer in 1977 as the owner/operator of Culver Farms, growing tobacco, corn, cotton, and peanuts. He was awarded the Pierce County Chamber of Commerce Farmer of the Year in 2003. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed deer hunting, dove hunting, shooting squirrels, saltwater and freshwater fishing, and listening to hound dogs chase deer and rabbits through the woods and clearcuts. Through the years, he had been a member of the Pierce County Hunting Club, Skeeter Swamp Hunting Club, Cathole Hunting Club, and Jon’s Pond Hunting Club. He was also a member of the Pierce County Foxhunter’s Association, having recently been awarded the 2024 Sportsman of the Year. He also enjoyed woodworking with his friend, Jimmy Clark, planting a garden every year and tending to it, and was a major fan of the Tennessee Volunteers. He could frequently be found riding his Polaris Ranger to town to the feed store or on the dirt roads near his home and was one of the Smith Road area guards, or possibly even the neighborhood sheriff or mayor. He thoroughly loved his friends and family, enjoying spending time and riding his grandchildren around the farm, and was known and will be remembered for his sense of humor, often telling jokes or making comments to get a laugh out of someone. He was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Culver; and his sister and brother-in-law, Mary Beth and Hulan Blackshear. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Terrie Smith Culver of Blackshear; 2 children, Candace Douglas (husband Josh) and Zach Culver (wife Sarah), all of Blackshear; 3 grandchildren and another expected soon, Peyton Douglas, Fisher Douglas, Stella Grace Culver, and Silas Culver due to be born in September; brother and sister-in-law, Cleve and Pam Culver of Blackshear; 3 nephews, Mike Blackshear (wife Lori), Kris Culver (wife Kaitlyn) and Roby Culver (wife Courtney); and several great nieces, nephews, and other relatives. A funeral service will take place Monday morning (3/4/24) at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Hart Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Alabaha Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Sympathy may be expressed by signing online at www.hartfh.com. She was 71 years old. The daughter of the late Robert J. Wadsley and Anna L. (Scavone) Wadsley, Diane was born on September 30, 1952 in Saratoga Springs, NY. Diane was a retired Registered Nurse for over 35 years at the Cornwall Hospital and later St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh, NY. She was an active member of Parkview Church. A family statement reads: Diane Roberta Quigley was uncommonly kind and staggeringly generous. She was stubborn beyond measure and loved crossword puzzles and anything based on a true story. The space she took up in our hearts was vast; and the one she left behind will never be filled. Diane is survived by her loving husband D. Kevin Quigley at home; her daughters: Kate A. Lewis and her husband Jon of Savannah, GA and Aileen Elijah Quigley Coe and their husband Tyler of Nashville, TN; her adoring grandchildren: Raeghan and Koda Lewis; her sister: Donna A. She was born in Jacksonville on October 7, 1960, to the late Elmer Glen and Patricia Ruth White Blackston. Dorothy's passion for family was evident in everything she did. She found joy in the simple things - playing cards with loved ones, fishing trips filled with laughter, and walks along the sandy shores of the beach. Jane Rose Michael, age 57, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 5, 2024, surrounded by her family. Jane was born in Mandan, North Dakota to John Barnhardt and Frances Barnhardt (Messer). She married the love of her life, Greg Michael, on August 2, 1986, and they had two sons, Nathan (Courtney) Michael, Cameron (J.D.) Michael, and one grandson, Aaron Michael, who she adored. She is survived by her mom, Frances, her brother Jim (Cindy) Barnhardt, and her two sisters, Mary (Andy) Barnhardt and Sue (Clay) Arnold. Above all else, Jane loved her family and showed them in many ways: birthday dinners at Ruth's Chris, tailgating at Jaguar games (Go Jags!), attending theater performances, concerts, taking Aaron to the zoo, or simply going out for ice cream. She shared her love, and included her friends too, by hosting Thanksgiving dinners, game nights, and legendary New Year’s Eve parties. Jane also loved to bake and travel, whether by plane, cruise ship or car, and passed that love on to her sons and grandson. Throughout her career, Jane was seen as a trusted friend, dedicated co-worker, and caring mentor. Jane will forever be remembered for her eternal love for Greg, devotion to her family, (the best Nana ever!) quiet strength, optimism, and sense of humor. She was our rock and inspiration.
