Duane QuinnPRICE- Duane Edward Quinn, left this life Saturday morning, 22 April 2023, after 92 years of enjoying life to the fullest with family by his side. Duane was born in St. George, Utah to Alice Eva Bills and Edward Leonard Quinn on 6 September 1930. He grew up in Price after moving there in 1935 and attended all the Price schools in buildings which no longer stand. He graduated from Carbon High School in the great class of 1948, then attended Carbon Junior College. Duane played football and basketball all the way through school. He worked at various odd jobs around town (Diamond Market, June Bott's Shell Service Station, A-1 Typewriter Repair, the old Carbon Hospital), then in 1943 began working for Marsing Brothers on the ranch and with the livestock. At the end of the 1950 Carbon College football season, he joined the Navy on 2 January 1951, and after boot camp at Great Lakes, Illinois, went to Japan to catch the destroyer USS Blue. While serving on the ship it made two trips to Korea, then was transferred to shore duty at the Fleet Gunnery school in San Diego, California as an instructor and was discharged from there in October 1954. Married Verna Jean Marsing on 2 February 1952 in San Diego while serving in the Navy. They were married 46 years before Verna passed away 29 June 1998 after a hard struggle with cancer. Verna and Duane had two children, a girl, Debra, and one son, Kelly William. Duane graduated from the University of Utah in June 1959 with a BS degree in Electrical Engineering. After schooling, he went to work for General Dynamics and Space Systems Division in San Diego. Later worked on the Atlas flight control and guidance systems; at first on the Atlas weapon system as an ICBM and later on the Atlas space boosters and the Centaur upper stage. He also worked in Flight Test, Systems Design including support of prelaunch tests and launch activities at Cape Canaveral and Vandenburg Air Force Base where he was in the blockhouse for many launches. Retired from GD after thirty-five years of service. Moved back home in November 1998 to the Marsing Ranch in Miller Creek near Price, Utah, next door to Kelly, Becky, and the girls. Became good friends with Gayle Atwood and spent much time together for twenty years. Spent time at the cabin in Joes Valley, as a cowboy on the ranch, as manager, bookkeeper, and parts chaser for son's business, Rollin' Wrenches. Received extra special care from daughter in law Becky. Survived by his daughter, Debra; son, Kelly and his wife Becky; granddaughters, Leila (Tristen) Milliken and Taylor (Coldel) Howard; four great-grandchildren, (Amyna, Aiden, Asher, Aspen); sisters-in-law, Marilyn Steines and Paula (Carroll) Butcher. Preceded in death by parents, wife Verna; special friend, Gayle; sister-in-law, Joyce Marsing; brother-in-law, Gary Steines, and many other friends and relatives. Graveside service, Friday, April 28, 2023, 11:00 a. m. , Price City Cemetery. Family will receive friends at Mitchell Funeral Home (233 East Main Street) in Price Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 p. m. and Friday one hour prior to graveside.
