Duane Poitevint, Jr, age 66, passed to his eternal home with Jesus Christ on August 31,2023, after a short, but aggressive battle with cancer. Although born in Mississippi, he continued to claim that he was "Texas Born & Raised". His parents were Duane Poitevint Sr. and Jenella Poitevint of Pecos, Tx. While growing up in Pecos, "Home of the World's First Rodeo" Duane served as a Rodeo Director in the 1980's and enjoyed serving in many of the community volunteer activities. Duane had the opportunity for a new job adventure in the early 1990's which took his young family to Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, where he worked on the East-West pipeline across the Arabian desert. He made many friends in his Arabian co-workers and ex-patriots from around the world. One of his hobbies was woodworking, a talent passed to his two sons. He was also a talented artist, doing pencil and ink western art and bronze sculpting. He loved hunting and always looked forward to the opening bird season and A&M Football. Fishing at the Texas Gulf Coast with family was another favorite of his. Duane and his family lived in Midland, TX after returning from Arabia. He worked in the oil and gas industry most of his life until retirement. He and his wife Kim had always loved the Texas Hill Country, finally moving to the Boerne area in 2019. Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Duane and Jenella Poitevint. He is survived by his wife Kim, of 44 years; his son, Garret Duane Poitevint and wife Tandi; grandchildren, Clayton and Payton Poitevint of Midland, son, Preston Scott Poitevint of San Antonio; brother, Morris Scott Poitevint and wife Rosie and son Dylan of Lake Jackson. Also, many cousins from the Morris and Poitevint families. A celebration of life service is planned for Saturday, September 9th, at 1:00 p. m. at Ebensberger Fisher Funeral Home, 1265 N. Main St, Boerne, TX 78006. A short reception will be held following the service at the Clubs of Cordillera Ranch, 1092 Clubs Drive, Boerne, TX 78006 from 3:00 to 5:00. The family has requested any donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at stjude. org or 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or West of the Pecos Museum, 120 E. Melvin Otto Haag, born on May 12, 1932, entered eternal rest on Monday, November 27, 2023, at 91 1/2 years. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Virginia (Rusty). Also preceded in death by his parents, Otto Haag and Adelheit (Stahl); three brothers, Harvey, Edward and Albert; and brother-in-law, Arlon Dowdy. Melvin is survived by his daughter, Chris Lyssy and her husband, Kenneth; two grandchildren, Cullen Wayne Hopkins, Jennifer Hundley and husband, Wade; two great grandchildren, Emma Hundley and Sawyer Hundley; sister-in-law, Carol Zellner of Studio City, California; two sisters, Alice Dowdy of Blanco, Texas and Mary Jane Zuercher (husband, Alan) of Kendalia, Texas; sister-in-law, Janice Haag of Harper, Texas, and many cherished nieces and nephews. Melvin grew up on the family farm in Kreutzberg, Texas, and attended Boerne Schools. He helped take care of his younger siblings while his parents did daily farming chores and provided for the family. After completing his school years, Melvin enlisted in the U. S. Navy in November of 1952, training in San Diego, spending his enlisted term in Hawaii and Japan, then finishing up a stint in the Reserve until November 1960. Following his active service in the Navy, Melvin started his employment with the Texas State Highway Department and continued with them for 30 years until he retired in 1987. After a short retirement, the Department encouraged him to come out of retirement and work a few more years as an inspector. He was with the state during the construction of Interstate 10 between Kendall County and Kerr County. Melvin married the love of his life, Rusty, on July 15, 1960. The two of them enjoyed sharing good times and made many good friends, being members of the Boerne Turn Verin. They bowled for many years and traveled to many tournaments including Las Vegas several times. Melvin and Rusty fell short by 4 days of celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary when we lost her on July 11, 2020. Melvin was a rancher at heart and was happiest when sitting on his tractor planting or shredding the fields. He was a wonderful Father, Grandfather and friend. Joseph Christopher (Chris) Ransom passed peacefully on November 25, 2023. Chris was born on July 19th, 1943, in his hometown of San Antonio, Texas, the son of Joseph Mario Ransom and Edith Marie Ransom (nee Clavin). A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, Chris earned a degree in Pharmacy in 1967, laying the foundation for a fulfilling career that spanned decades. His expertise was valued during his tenures at Santa Rosa Hospital and Methodist Hospitals in San Antonio. In November 22, 1969, Chris married his loving wife Nancy (nee Palmer). Together they had 2 children, Lorie and Lee. The family made their home in northwest San Antonio where Chris and Nancy lived until they retired, when they built and moved into a beautiful home in the Hill Country outside Boerne, Texas. Chris' love for the outdoors brought his family many wonderful memories of camping trips and excursions to hiking destinations like Big Bend National Park. Even at home, Chris would find ways to spend time outside, working on various landscaping projects. He was also an avid reader with a particular fondness for American History, and would often come away with a book or three from the gift shop at various historical stops made during family road trips. A devoted Catholic, Chris lived a life characterized by kindness and a quick wit that brought joy to those around him. His warm heart and good-natured humor made him a cherished presence in the lives of his family and friends. A memorial service to celebrate Chris' life will be held on December 1st at 10 a. m. at the Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home in Boerne, Texas, with a short reception to follow. Pamela "Pam" Joyce Ham McGonagill, 76, of Boerne, Texas, passed away November 16, 2023. Pam was born on October 1, 1947, in Stamford, Texas, to the late Alfred and Virginia Ham. She grew up in Big Spring, TX where she graduated high school and was married shortly after. Pam achieved many things in life, such as attending college while being a single mom and enjoying a long and successful career with the Chapter 13 Bankruptcy Trustee in Corpus Christi where she created lifelong friendships. Following her semi-retirement, she was the bookkeeper for her daughter's compounding pharmacy. She continued bookkeeping for several Boerne organizations, including the Rainbow Senior Center and Open TRAIL Ranch. Her favorite activities included watching the Dallas Cowboys, cooking, crafting, traveling and attending her grandkids' school and sporting events. Pam is survived by her daughter, Leigh Ann Greenberg and husband Brett Greenberg; granddaughters Kayla and Heidi Grasso; grandson Peyton Grasso; brothers Gary Ham and wife Linda Ham, and Thomas Ham and wife Freida Ham; nieces Christy Munoz and Hailey Heinsohn; nephews Lonnie Ham and Tyler Ham. Pam was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Virginia. Robert William Vrana, 85, of Boerne, passed away on November 19, 2023, surrounded by family. He was born in Poteet on February 26, 1938, to Adolph W. Vrana and Marie Lanik Vrana, their third of four children. Growing up in Dobrowolski, Texas, Robert was a popular and social student with a passion for sports. He played varsity football, baseball, basketball, and ran track for Charlotte Public School where he graduated in 1956. He went on to earn a bachelor's in business administration from Sam Houston State University. It was there that he met his future wife and love of his life, Sandra Jane O'Neal. On December 28, 1963, the two married in Bay City and settled in Houston, TX, to begin their life together. Always family oriented, Robert was a devoted father to his 2 daughters. He enjoyed a long and successful career working for a legal publishing company before pursuing his dream of starting his own publishing business. After selling the company in 1999 the couple moved to Boerne. In their free time, the family enjoyed weekends at their ranch entertaining friends and extended family. Robert was a man of deep faith, who loved nature and traveling across the United States, but nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his best buddy, grandson Garrett. Robert is survived by his wife, Sandra; daughter, Kelly Vrana; daughter, Shannon Barnett and husband, Clayton; grandson, Garrett Wallace; and multiple nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Mary Poe; his brothers, Rudy Vrana and Richard Vrana. A visitation will be held on Sunday, November 26, 2023, beginning at 4:00pm with a rosary to be recited at 5:30pm. Patricia Diane Culak, 69, of Kendalia passed away on November 13, 2023. Patricia Diane Clark was born on May 24, 1954 in San Antonio to James and Genevieve Clark. She was married to her husband Ronnie Culak for forty-eight years and she had four children. Some of her hobbies were sewing, bird-watching, watching her favorite TV shows, camping, fishing, playing bunko, and cooking. Her personality was loving, caring, giving, brave, selfless, intelligent, beautiful, and thoughtful. She had a big heart and a powerful soul. She was always taking care of everyone before herself, and was the kind of person who would always listen if you needed to talk. She was a wonderful mother, a hard-working woman, and a loving wife. She had helped others her whole life. She built a house with her husband, and was a sister, a daughter, and a grandmother to ten grandchildren. She loved lighthouses, yellow roses, and her grandkids dearly!She is survived by her husband, Ronnie Culak; her children, Jason (Tina) Culak, Chris (Stephanie) Culak, Matt Culak, and Eric (Meagan) Culak; and her grandchildren, Dustin, Shane, Kirstin, Madelyn, Ashtyn, Lane, Mae, Alyssa, Dawson and Kameron. On Sunday, November 5, 2023, Joyce (Joy) Miriam Towns Anderson, loving wife (husband James Charles Anderson, deceased), mother of four daughters, grandmother of eight, and great-grandmother of eighteen, passed away at the age of 89, in Boerne, Texas. She grew up in Glenwood, Georgia, and resided in Stockbridge, Georgia and McDonough, Georgia for many decades before recently moving to Boerne, Texas to live with her daughter, Lynn, and granddaughter, Kristy and her family. Joy was born on August 14, 1934, to Maude and Jack Towns of Glenwood, Georgia. She was the youngest of seven children with five sisters (Willa Mae, Addis, Gussie, Annice and Hilda) and one brother (Edward), all of whom have preceded her in death. She is survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Joy and Charles married in February 1953 with Charles passing away in 1988. Their four daughters are Deniece Anderson (deceased), Lynn Anderson Williams, Janis Anderson Spinks (spouse - Tommy Spinks) and Ellane Anderson Barnes (spouse - Glynn Barnes). The love of Joy's life was her eight grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. To her dying day she was their constant encourager and prayer warrior. Her eight grandchildren are Art (Elizabeth) Williams, Nancy Mays, Kristy (Eric) Hightower, Clifford (Jessica) Mays, Alicia (Nathan) Phillips, Janna (Bryan) Kelly, Andrea (Brad) Vomacka, and Craig (Megan) Spinks. Her eighteen great-grandchildren are Selah Williams, Artis Williams, Darci Hightower, Daniel Hightower, Abbie Hightower, Isaiah Hightower, Joel Hightower, Joey Hightower, Kaytlin Mays, Sully Phillips, Ellerie Phillips, Oliver Phillips, Emma Kelly, Remi Kelly, Noah Kelly, Titus Spinks, Eiley Spinks, and Jovie Spinks. MaMa Joy will be missed by all; however, she left an undeniable legacy that will live on in her family she loved so dearly. Joy loved people and loved showing people that she cared through her cooking/baking. She was an excellent southern cook and was always excited to share her recipes with others. Although she spent many years unable to stand well or walk because of Multiple Sclerosis, she always found ways to work in her kitchen cooking for others. She also loved southern gospel music. Most days, walking into her home you would find delicious aromas of something good cooking and either her gospel music playing in the background or in season, her beloved Braves on TV! She had a strong faith in Jesus Christ and shared her faith oaen with friends, family and even strangers. Many people have said that she did indeed "live up to her name. . . . JOY". We know that as she drew her final breath here on earth, she exhaled in Heaven with Jesus, standing straight and without pain and heard Jesus say "Well done, faithful servant. Welcome HOME.
