Dovey Lawson Davis age 77 of Barren Springs VA passed away Friday September 8, 2023. She was born February 25, 1946, in Wythe County VA the daughter of the late Henry & Masie Sutphin Lawson, she was preceded in death by her husband Louis "Wimp" Davis. Dovey is survived by. William Thomas Byrd, Jr. , or as most people knew him "Butch" or probably even "Pabutch" was reunited with his soulmate, Mary, when he went to his heavenly home on November 28, 2023. He is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, his father, and his mother. He leaves behind a family that loved him more than anything, a daughter Pam and husband Craig, a son Rick and wife Molly. Also left to cherish his memory are his grandchildren, Jake and fiancee Amalia, Kody and wife Ariel, Chase and wife Emily, Tom, and Luke, along with two Great-Grandchildren Maverick and Jemma. Pabutch graduated from Bluefield High School, and attended Bluefield Business. He retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad in 2000. Pabutch was a family man through and through. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He was unlike any other, a man who greeted everyone as though they were family. Pabutch was an active member and Elder of Bastian Union Church. He enjoyed teaching his Sunday School class every week, and could be found every month cooking bacon at the Men's Prayer Breakfast. He also looked forward to his nightly calls with Tommy King, Rick Hull and many other friends. And always looked forward to a good meal. A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 4. Visitation from 12:00-1:00, and service at 1:00. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Bastian Union Church Building Fund. Nellie Tarter Catron, age 97, of Salem, VA, passed away the morning of Monday, November 27, 2023 at Excellence Senior Living Center in Orlando, FL. She was born February 26, 1926 in Wythe County, Virginia, the daughter of the late John Shuff and Elsie Etter Tarter. Nellie retired from Rowe Furniture in 1989, and spent her retirement enjoying Holiday Rambler travel with her late husband, Charles, gardening and canning, and spending time with her grandchildren in Orlando, Florida. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a longtime member of the Locust Grove Methodist Church in Salem, VA. In addition to her parents, Nellie was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Christopher and son, David Chris; sister, Elise Grace Walters, and brother, John Robert Tarter. Living her memory are daughter-in-law, Debbie Catron, of Orlando, FL; granddaughter Elise Catron of Orlando, FL; grandson Travis Catron and wife Lyndsey of Orlando, FL; great-grandchildren, Ezekiel and Collins Catron; nieces, nephews and many extended family and friends. A graveside service will be held at the Mount Ephraim Church in Crockett, Virginia, on Saturday, December 2 at 11:00 am with Pastor Steven Alderman officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives after the service at the Mount Ephraim Church with a light lunch at Nellie's request. Gregory Todd Hash, Greg or "Duke" as most knew him, but his favorite name was Pawpaw, age 57 passed away on Monday evening November 27, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loved ones. He was born December 21, 1965 to his parents Peggy Hash and the late Vance Hash of Rural Retreat. Greg was known for his generous spirit, his BBQ recipe, and his Joop Cologne. He was proud to be a Shriner for many years along with his dad. He was a member of the Mt Airy Masonic Lodge #226 in Rural Retreat and a member of the Rural Retreat Volunteer Fire Dept. since he was 17 years old. Along with his mother, Greg is survived by his wife of 18 years, Cheryl Dix Hash; his greatest accomplishments, Meghan and Chase Musser of Orlando, FL; Tyler Hash (dog Sampson); Jordan and Blaine Wheeler; Wyatt Sowers and RheaAnn Havens all of Wytheville; In addition to his children he was blessed with four beautiful grandchildren, Kamryn and Declan of Orlando, FL and Kaden and Kylie of Wytheville; sister and brother-in-law, Theresa and Allen Dix of Crockett; brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Kim Hash of Rural Retreat; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gary and Becky Dix of Wytheville; nephew, Jared and Rachel Dix of Wytheville; nieces, Jenna and Isaac Hayes of Knoxville, TN, Brinkley and Mykenna Hash of Rural Retreat; great nephews, Hutch, Colson and Shepherd; special friends, Brandi Pruitt (Justin Spraker) and Tony Sult and Kevin Cregger; and his best friend Terry "Red Eye" Irvin. For all this, we do not say goodbye, we say Night Love You! Masonic services will start at 6:45 P. M. Thursday, November 30, 2023 followed by a funeral service at 7 P. M. at the Grubb Funeral Home with Pastor Jonathan Hamman and Steve Yates officiating. Graveside service will be held 2 P. M. Friday at the Mt View Cemetery in Rural Retreat. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6:45 P. M. Thursday at the Grubb Funeral Home.
