Marysville, OH

Douglas A. Kowalski, (67), of Marysville, Ohio, passed away on August 9, 2023. Doug was born in Toledo, Ohio to Joseph and Evelyn Kowalski. After graduating high school, he went on to work at Jeep for 31 years, retiring in 2008. No one who met Doug forgot his infectious passion for dog training. Even as a child, Doug had a very special bond with animals. He was fondly known to those around him by nicknames such as "Bird Man on Berdan" and simply "Dog Man Doug". He was a very accomplished and talented dog trainer, winning several championships of his own as well as being a trainer for team Romy & Ole at the 2015 FMBB World Championship in the Czech Republic. They took first place! He demonstrated such commitment to excellence and worked tirelessly to perfect his craft. It was his true passion and hobby in life, and what he was most well known for. The only thing he loved more than training dogs, was being a father. Doug was an avid storyteller and had a very playful personality to those he was close with. He always had a sly smile while telling a story, knowing that he was sharing some truths, half truths, and some outright lies - but also knowing that he had people hooked. He was continuously inventing new ways of doing things and would give most everything the 'Doug Special' which included taking things apart, losing some of the pieces, adding some new pieces, and then putting them back together in the 'right way'according to Doug. He loved keeping things for years in case he needed it. Most notably, a roll of black duct tape that has been with the family for 20 years and has become an honorable family member at this point. If it was appropriate to include it in the 'survived by' list as one of his children, it would have been included and Doug would have laughed. Doug is survived by his daughter, Jordan (Ed) Caudill and two grandchildren, Cass and Jett Caudill. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Evelyn Kowalski, and survived by several brothers and sisters. Doug was very private and at his request, there will be no funeral or memorial services held. He would honestly be mad about an obituary being written about him but would agree this is a fair compromise. He played a unique and special role in many lives, and in lieu of official memorial services, please take a moment to remember him in whatever capacity he impacted your life. His ashes will be scattered in all his favorite places, and his family will be having a private celebration of his life at that time.

Caryl Frisch

Caryl Frisch

Age - 88

October 29, 2023

Caryl Lee (Snyder) Frisch, 88, of Marysville, Ohio, died on October 26, 2023, at the home of her daughter, Susan Anderson, where she had been living with the assistance of Loving Care Hospice since March of 2023. She was born on August 17, 1935, in Bellevue, Ohio, the youngest daughter of C. Martin "Marty" and Lucille (Bliss) Snyder. Caryl lost her beloved mother in the summer of 1945, when Caryl was only 10 years old. On December 28, 1946, Marty married Virginia Bell, of Norwalk, OH, and she became the step-mother to the Snyder children. Marty and Virginia went on to have two children of their own. It was at that time that Caryl developed an especially loving relationship with her maternal grandparents, Linda (Kennedy) and John Holley. Gammie and Grandpa Holley spent wonderful days with Caryl. Gammie taught her how to sew, cook, and keep house. Grandpa Holley made Caryl feel special, spending quality time with her and making certain that all her material needs were met. After graduating from Bellevue High School in 1954, where she was active in business clubs and choir, Caryl began her working life as a draftswoman with the Northern Ohio Telephone Co. in Bellevue. Caryl was especially proud of the first car she ever bought, a 1957 Chevrolet BelAir which was mauve! In 1957, Caryl met her future husband, Alton E. "Al" Frisch, also of Bellevue. The couple were married on July 11, 1959, at the Sorrowful Mother Shrine outside of Bellevue, by Fr. Joseph Lapinski. Al and Caryl set up housekeeping in Bellevue and soon began their family, which was when Caryl became a full-time wife and mother of five daughters. Caryl was always first and foremost, a mother, as she was determined to give her girls the most loving relationship she could. As the girls got older, Caryl went back to work as a Kroger Price Check Shopper, where she ventured to various grocery stores in the area to compare prices of certain goods each week with the Kroger price. Her face was even on the cover of the weekly Kroger ad! Caryl later went on to work for the AAA Travel Agency in Norwalk, a position she thoroughly enjoyed. It was in helping others plan their travels that Caryl was bitten by the "travel bug", which greatly influenced her life from then on. After moving to the Columbus area to finish their careers in 1978, Al and Caryl relocated to Florida permanently in retirement in 1992 and began living their life's dream of living in the sun, as well as traveling. Over the next 21 years, they purchased a series of motor coaches in order to travel through most of the lower 48 states, as well as several provinces in Canada. Al and Caryl also belonged to several motor coach associations and they would 'rally' with other members all over the country, making friends wherever they went. During her years in Florida, Caryl was very active in various social groups with other women and served in leadership positions in various motor coach associations. She enjoyed learning and doing new things, such as several types of needle crafts, going to Broadway productions in nearby cities, and playing mah-jong. Caryl loved reading, entertaining and planning social occasions with friends and family as well. Eventually returning to Ohio in 2012, Al and Caryl settled back in Columbus, where most of their family was located. Caryl is survived by five daughters: Lori (Robert Jr. ) Luderman of Defiance, OH; Susan Anderson of Marysville, OH; Jacalyn (Anthony) DiSante of Upper Arlington, OH; Judy Frisch of Delaware, OH; and Beth (Mark) Murphy of Blacklick, OH. Sixteen grandchildren survive their grandmother, as well as 18 great-grandchildren. Caryl is also survived by one brother, M. Alan Snyder, of Catawba Island, OH, as well as one sister, Christine Linder, South Carolina, a sister-in-law, Joan Snyder, Ocala, FL, and a brother and sister-in law, M. Eugene and Norma J. Frisch, Ocala, FL, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Alton E. Frisch; parents, C. Martin and Lucille Snyder, her step-mother, Virginia (Bell) Snyder, her sister, Phyllis (Snyder) Robertson, her brother, R. William Snyder, sisters-in-law, Janet (Lepley) Snyder, Edna (Frisch) Wise, Dorothy (Frisch) Jensen, Bernita (Frisch) Bowers, and Norma Jean (Japsen) Frisch; brothers-in-law, Walter P. Robertson, Walter E. Wise, James N. Jensen, Leland A. Bowers, and Charles A. Frisch; two nieces, Karen (Jensen) Comiskey and Lisa (Robertson) Mullet; and four nephews, James Robertson, Scott Bowers, Donald Wise and Dennis Bowers, in infancy. Friends will be received on Thursday, November 2, 2023, from 4-7 p. m. at Foos and Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue where the Rosary will be recited at 3:30 p. m. A funeral mass will begin at 11 a. m. on Friday at Immaculate Conception Church, 231 E. Center Street, Bellevue. Memorial contributions in Caryl's memory may be made to Loving Care Hospice, Marysville, Ohio. The entire Frisch Family would like to thank this organization for their tender care of both Caryl and Al at the end of their lives.Show more
