Elishah Quiterio

Elishah Quiterio

Age - 22

December 8, 2023

On Sunday, December 3, 2023, our beloved son, brother, cousin, uncle, and friend, Elishah Armando Quiterio, ended his struggles to be reunited with his mom, Chanta. The chronicle of the loss of this sweet and beautiful soul to suicide seems unfathomable, unreal, and even impossible. However, the reality of our loss is all too commonplace, and we choose to recognize that our broken hearts bear a responsibility to those suffering silently by sharing his story. Elishah, or "Eli," as he was known, was born to Inigo Armando Quiterio and Chanta Quiterio on May 8, 2001, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Eli was the youngest of three children and as one would expect for the youngest, he was the sparkle in Chanta's eyes. In life, you can expect its ups and downs and at age 5, Eli turned what most would consider a difficult situation into a blessing in disguise; accepting a co-father and two brothers, Michael and Christopher, into his life when Chanta and Inigo divorced and Chanta later married James "Scooter" Peterson. Inigo has remained a part of the family throughout the kids' lives. At a young age, Eli was an extremely gifted athlete. He LOVED skateboarding and biking, often emulating his older cousins, Tyler (17) and Andrew (15). Although older, he so enjoyed hanging out with them and learning stunts and tricks. Sadly, at the age of nine, Eli lost his hero, Tyler, to a tragic car accident on July 3, 2010. That loss weighed heavily on Elishah throughout his life, as he loved his cousin dearly. As difficult as that was, he again flipped that script to grow his relationships with his family and cousins. His cousin, Savannah, learned to snowboard because of Eli's love and patience. . . he was the only one that took the time to teach her. He loved her dearly and their bond ran deep. As young adults, whenever they got together for dinner, she would cook and his request would inevitably be the same; Steak, medium well, baked potato with sour cream and his favorite, Caesar salad. . . "don't f&%k it up. " With the family settled in their Sandy home, Eli began exploring his creative side. He loved designing shirts and logos with his friend Thiago where the two worked on designs together. They called their brand TESQ (Thiago Eli Sprunt Quiterio). Later, the two worked on a brand called Bornstar which included friends, Cody and Gabe. Thiago will miss him, "He was so intelligent and precise with his work on everything. He'll always be guiding our brands from above. " Perhaps it was his eye for detail in design and fashion, but at some point, Eli began a love for shoes and hats, something he shared with Inigo. He loved his shoes and kept them in impeccable shape. So much, in fact, that he was the only one the family knew of that left the house wearing a "driving" shoe. . . there was no way in hell he was creasing a limited-edition Air Jordan pushing on the gas pedal! To say he loved his mom, and that his mom loved him, is beyond an understatement. Eli was never too old to snuggle with his mom and the bond they shared made Dominique and his dad Scooter what some may call "just a little jealous. " It was not uncommon for them to jibe Chanta and Eli about him getting a hot breakfast every morning and a lunch packed. . . those two sure didn't get that level of service but you can bet your ass Eli did! And music? He loved it. The shocking part was his love of country music. Living in a house with Scooter who pretty much always had what Eli called "dirty hippie music" or Mexican polkas playing, Eli somehow allowed that love of country to soak in. Because of this, Dominique always enjoyed car rides with him because it was her own personal country concert. We just didn't know when he found the time to learn all the lyrics -- yes, he knew ALL the lyrics -- because the only thing the family ever heard from him was Macklemore and Mac Miller! Dominique will sure miss those concerts and his lifelong habit of hopping on the bed to chat and snuggle. Homesick, by Kane Brown, was his favorite song. Eli, along with his brothers and cousin, Andrew, loved to spend time outdoors. He gravitated towards Andrew to master skateboarding at the Sandy Skate Park. To put it lightly, he gave Andrew a run for his money. The boys also enjoyed trips into the "boonies" with Scooter to target shoot and run amuck -- something his stepdad had ample experience in! When his uncle Fitzgerald took the helm of the Price City Fire Department, Scooter and Eli enjoyed their time hanging with Fitz enjoying his side-by-side, shooting, and of course, Eli loved to sit and listen to the antics of what these two pulled in and out of Carbon County. Elishah was a hard worker. In his early years of high school, he took a seasonal job at Target, and once the Christmas season ended, he was the only one they kept on. He worked with them through graduation before moving onto bigger and better things. Since he loved cars, he spent several years working in the auto repair business, learning to repair and reconstruct vehicles at Valley Collision. Eventually, Eli had the opportunity to begin work with his dad, Inigo, learning the plumbing trade. He enjoyed the "out of towners" with his dad and his dad's friend, Matt, plumbing larger jobs like hotels. Inigo and Eli loved to make each other laugh about what they thought was the most "stoooopid" s*#t, losing track of the number of times they would end up talking about nothing, but "everything" at the same time. On August 7, 2022, Eli's mom experienced a mental health crisis which resulted in an accidental overdose. After 4 days of life-saving efforts, Eli and his family gathered around Chanta as she peacefully passed at 12:33 PM on August 11, 2022. Her death was ruled a suicide. This, combined with the loss of his cousin(s) Tyler and Megan and his grandma, Denise, began a difficult time in his life. To stay ahead of the curve, Eli took great strides in self-improvement. He read extensively, engaged his stepdad Scooter in deep conversations, and went so far as to spend 10 days in Idaho learning the technique of Vipassana meditation. Nine of those ten days required noble silence, and of course, no electronics including phones. To say he was working hard to self-improve is putting it lightly. Eli's story came to an end in the morning hours of December 3, just over a day after his favorite uncle, Fitz, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. Even in his darkest hours, Eli continued to show great compassion to his stepdad Scooter by expressing his sadness for him and Francie and relief for his uncle -- all the while, reeling with the pain of missing Chanta. A pain that, regrettably, runs so deep that it's almost undetectable. The holiday season, being a difficult time for most struggling with mental health issues, should be a time of peace, love, and happiness. Rather, it is often a time of loss, despair, and hopelessness. Elishah, defeated, drove a short distance from his home and took his life. Although his suffering has ended, it falls on all of us to remain diligent to those we love, ensuring that the vulnerable receive the care and dignity they deserve. Inigo was and always will be proud of his son. He was a perfect mix of his parents; stubborn, rebellious, loving, beautiful, caring, and just all around AMAZING. Scooter will miss his talks and remain ever grateful that it was Eli that introduced him to the principals that allow him to face times like these with grace and dignity. Elishah is survived by his father, Inigo Armando (Corina) Quiterio, father #2 James O. "Scooter" Peterson III, sister Dominique Brianne Quiterio, brother Christopher Nelson (Chloe) Peterson, brother Michael James Peterson, fur babies Chumlee and Khloe (his little princess), 3 cats, Blue (his roommate), Milo and Akila, 6 second-cousins, and multiple aunties, uncles, and cousins. It is noteworthy, however, to list aunt Amber Bishop and Aunt Lucinda (Dave) Campbell, as they have been a close part of this family throughout Eli's life, always present not only during the fun times, but more so in the bad. He is preceded in death by the love of his life, his mom, Chanta M. Peterson, sister Kylie Mae Quiterio, grandmother Denise Martin, cousins Tyler Blais and Megan Blais, and uncle, Fitzgerald J. "Fitz" Petersen. A celebration of life for both he and his mother, Chanta, will be held at McDougal Funeral Home located at 4330 S. Redwood Road in Taylorsville, Utah, on Thursday, December 14, 2023. The family will receive guests from 10:00 AM to 11:50 AM. Services will begin at 12:00 PM. After the memorial, we will travel a short distance to Murray City Cemetery for the interment and dedication of the grave at 5490 S. Vine St. , Murray, Utah. https://www. mcdougaldfuneralhome. com/ In lieu of flowers, a GoFundMe page has been established at https://gofund. me/9c23b2a5. Funds will be utilized to cover funeral, family, and travel expenses, as well as support of Live On Utah and the Utah Suicide Prevention Coalition, Carbon County Animal Shelter, and Sub For Santa. For those who would like to attend a candlelight vigil organized by Savannah and Dom Leas, it will be held this Thursday, December 7, 2023, at the Sandy Skate Park, 10140 South 700 East in Sandy, Utah. Friends and family will gather at 6:00 PM to celebrate Elishah and draw attention to the epidemic of suicide.Show more

Keith Pope

Keith Pope

Age - 70

December 8, 2023

Keith LaVon Pope was born on an army base in Landstuhl, Germany on January 21, 1953 to Dorothy and Wendell Pope. A few months later, on the ship passage home, he was tucked safely into a dresser drawer, as the young family moved back to the US eventually settling in Utah. As the oldest of nine, Keith grew up with a lifelong love of family, education, and adventure. His devotion to family was always foremost in his thoughts and actions--not only for his siblings, but also for his huge extended family, both of direct relation and those who are family by choice. In 1975, while attending college at Utah State University in Logan, UT, he met his brown eyed girl, his Suzy Q. Starting with an Easter Sunday family dinner as a first date, Susan and Keith married eight months later, the beginning of a 48-year partnership. His love of the outdoors took the newlyweds to Salmon, ID where he was a sawyer, a job he absolutely loved. With bigger dreams and an impressive desire to continually educate himself, the two moved to California so that Keith could attend UC Berkeley where he acquired his law degree along with new friends he kept for his lifetime. Keith and Suzy always said their greatest accomplishment is their children, Nicholas John and Christina Inez (Hal Griffiths). An amazing, dedicated, kind father he was constantly involved throughout their lives--as a guide, a supporter, a source, an educator, an audience, or anything else that was needed by his kids. In 1984, the four Popes moved back to Salt Lake City where Keith, over three decades, built an admirable and decorated career as a Corporate Law and Transaction Attorney. Most importantly to Keith, he and Suzy, with hard work and love, created a home that is a nurturing place for their kids and a haven for anyone who falls under the umbrella of 'the family'. A man of kindness, joviality, intellect, and understanding the door is always open. His generosity with his time and abilities, his humility, the easiness that came with just being around him, his desire to see those he loved succeed, his eye for the goodness in others, made him the type of person we all strive to one day become. If there was work to be done, he did it without being asked and always did it "the right way". He was a loving husband, devoted father, all-star older brother, terrific father-in-law, a friend to all, so much to so many and the best friend a good beer ever had. There will be a Beer and Bite toast to this Great Man on Saturday, December 16th starting at 4 PM until at least 6 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. Please come celebrate the joy of having known Keith L. Pope before we all must bear the emptiness of no longer having his laugh fill our hearts and homes.Show more

Leonila Campbell

Leonila Campbell

Age - 82

December 8, 2023

"Leonila (Lee) Delia Lopez Campbell, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend passed away peacefully on December 1, 2023, at the age of 82. Lee was born May 10, 1941, in Los Angeles, California to Julian Teran Lopez and Elisa Munoz Lopez. She was their only child but had 2 half-brothers and 4 half-sisters who were much older than her. During her early life, she lived in several areas of southern California, mostly in the Orange County area because her father owned several small grocery stores and gas stations. She would often tell stories of helping in the grocery store alongside her mother and father and how she enjoyed the time spent working with them. This helped her at an early age learn how to relate to others and achieve excellent work ethics. Lee graduated from Mater Dei High School in 1959 in Garden Grove, California and then went on to further her studies at Santa Ana Jr. Collage and Sawyer's Business College. In August 1963, Lee and her parents were visited by two missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Elder Campbell, and Elder Russell. After a few weeks of being taught the gospel lessons, they accepted the gospel and were baptized. Soon after their baptism, Elder Campbell's calling was completed, and he returned home to Utah. After returning home, he decided to write to Lee and was excited when he received a letter in return. After several months of letters back and forth, their love for each other grew stronger day by day. In December of 1963, Conley acquired the permission he needed from his parents to have her join them for Christmas in Utah. This was mom's first time seeing snow! The family took her to Temple Square where she was invited to play the organ in the Tabernacle. They also introduced her to sledding and snowball fights. Conley proposed to Lee Christmas Eve 1963 and later married on June 26, 1964, in the Los Angeles Temple for time and all eternity. Lee and Conley made their home in Southern California and gave birth to 4 daughters and 1 son. Lee became quite good as a seamstress and learned to make clothes for the whole family. In fact, all our Disneyland trips would consist of matching t-shirts. With her homemaking skills and organizational finesse, Lee was called to the position of Homemaking Leader for the Relief Society, teaching time management, cooking, and sewing. Lee was active in the gospel and taught her family by example. Conley and Lee loved their family and spending time with them was very important. In June 1978, Conley accepted a job offer in Brigham City which moved our family to Utah. Lee found new opportunities in the neighborhood and grew to love her time in Brigham City. She taught Spanish, as this was her first language and she also taught piano lessons as she was an accomplished pianist and played beautifully. Later, Lee took on the workforce outside the home to become a travel agent for 18 and a half years. She also taught travel school and worked in the wedding registry at ZCMI for many years, which she very much enjoyed. Lee had a love for people and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She instilled qualities in her family that would follow them throughout their lives. She enjoyed baking, sewing, canning, crafting, music, and just being a mother. She was immensely talented and especially loved her scrapbooking and needle work. She always kept an organized and tidy home that always made it inviting to come home to. Lee is preceded in death by her loving husband, Conley Barrus Campbell, both parents, two half-brothers and four half-sisters. She is survived by their 5 children, Yolanda Brammer (Matt), Monica Sturdevant (Charles), Elena Rains, Ramon Campbell (Tammy) and Laura Mast, 18 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren. She has returned home to be with her loving husband and our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We know she was welcomed with open arms. Our hearts are filled with gratitude and love for all the CNA's at Spring Gardens of Draper as well as Bristol Hospice who showed their love, compassion, and support for both of our parents as well as to all family members who visited. We hold a special place in our heart for all the tender mercies they have shown. We could not have done this without you! Mom and Dad will be watching over us and will always be in our hearts and minds every day! We love you Mom forever and look forward to when we will see you both again! Viewing and funeral services will be held at Premier Funeral Home on Saturday, December 16, 2023 located at 67 East 8000 South, Midvale, Utah. The viewing will be held from 10:00-10:45am and services to follow starting at 11:00 am. Interment will be at Elysian Burial Gardens located at 1075 East 4580 South, Murray, Utah. "Show more

Scott Adair

Age - 64

December 7, 2023

Scott Leroy Adair was born in Salt Lake City on April 13, 1959 to Milton L. and Dorothy Jean Adair. He passed away on December 1, 2023 at the age of 64 due to the after effect of a stroke he suffered in June of 2022. Scott and his sweetheart, Kathy Starr Adair were married on August 10, 1979. They recently celebrated their 44 anniversary. They have two children, daughter Nicole Jean Adair (Matt) and son Ian Sean Wesley Adair (Fran). Scott and Kathy have had a wonderful marriage and their personalities complemented each other so well. Kathy is a very talented artist and Scott was proud of her and encouraged her to pursue that talent. From a young age Scott was always strong willed and knew exactly what he wanted and would work hard to make it happen. That attitude served him well throughout his life and he has been successful at whatever he set his mind to. It also served him well in his career at the Salt Lake Chevron Refinery. He started out as an operator monitoring and adjusting the operating systems. At that time the refinery used a paper system to track maintenance and repairs that were needed. Scott was teaching himself computers and developed a maintenance tracking and scheduling program at home, during after hours. When he showed it to his superiors, they were so impressed that they adopted the program. He then transferred into the Information Technology (Computer) group. He traveled to other refineries around the country where they also implemented the program. He and Kathy enjoyed traveling the US and multiple different countries. But their favorite places was San Diego and they vacationed there many times. Scott always loved cars, he owned several collectible BMW's. Scott was well known, and had many good friends, among the Salt Lake car enthusiast groups and they always looked forward to him attending their activities with one of his beautifully maintained BMWs. He was always an animal lover. Over the years he had multiple cats and dogs. His most recent dog is Kona, a little Shorkie he adored. You would never see him without her. He took her on daily walks, she would keep him company on drives where he would have one hand on the wheel and the other holding Kona so she could rest her head out the window. Kona gave him so much love and companionship. Now she is helping Kathy with her grief. Scott was was friendly and accepting of everyone. He loved his family and friends very much and will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank the caring staff at The Peaks at South Jordan Memory Care and Bristol Hospice for the love and friendship they showed to Scott and his family. A celebration of Scott's life will be on Monday, December 11, from 6-8 pm at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. Joseph Cwik

Joseph Cwik

Age - 89

December 7, 2023

The patriarch of our family - our father, grandfather and uncle, Joseph C. Cwik, 89, Salt Lake City, passed on November 29, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Joe was born March 17th to parents Andrew and Anna Cwik in Chicago, Illinois. He met his forever love, Joann, while stationed with the United States Navy Air Group in Hawaii. They married in Chicago, Illinois, on August 31, 1957 - a union that lasted 64 years. After marriage, life took them to Champagne-Urbana, IL (graduate of University of Illinois), Los Angeles (teacher), Arizona and Utah (US Government/DOJ), with retirement in Salt Lake City. The couple raised their three children in southern California and Utah. Joe will be remembered as the Patriarch of his family - fiercely dedicated to his role as husband and father, always focused on taking care of his family. A veteran of the Korean War, serving 4 years with the Navy Air Group, and a devout Catholic, he was a man of intense integrity. He had a soft-heart towards those less fortunate than he - quietly paying the tuition for several students at St. Vincents over the years and those of his sibling's family members. He also regularly donated to charities like the Boys and Girls Club and loved leaving ridiculously large tips for servers. We will miss his unique sense of humor and the fantastical stories from his time as a teacher, US Navyman and DOJ special agent. Joseph is survived by his son John Cwik (Las Vegas), daughter Katherine Cwik (Salt Lake City), and granddaughter Cassandra Jo Cwik (Las Vegas). He was preceded in death by his wife Joann and eldest son Richard, also his parents and all of his siblings. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, December 8th at 11:30 AM, at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church - 1375 Spring Lane, Salt Lake City, Utah. Visitation will be from 10:30-11:30am at St. Vincent's prior to Mass on December 8th. Joseph will be laid to rest following Mass at Utah Veterans Cemetery & Memorial Park, 17111 South Camp Williams Road, Bluffdale, Utah. The Cwik family extends much gratitude for the loving, compassionate and supportive care provided by the 3 West Tower and 4 North Tower nursing and doctors' staff at St. Marks Hospital and symbii Home Health and Hospice during the final weeks of our Dad's journey. We are forever thankful for their attentiveness, guidance, grace and kindness.Show more
