Terry Gene Leech, age 75 of Nebraska City passed away November 30, 2023, at CHI St. Mary's Hospital in Nebraska City. Terry was born August 15, 1948, in Humboldt, the son of Myron Willard and Imogene (Oursland) Leech. Blessed with a love like no other, Terry was united in marriage to Jerri Hemmer-Bohl on September 30th, 1994, in Las Vegas, NV. Terry grew up in Humboldt, NE and graduated from Humboldt High School in 1966. He then enlisted in the Army in 1968. After serving two tours in Vietnam, he returned to Humboldt and attended Peru State College where he received his Bachelor of Education in Special Education. Terry dedicated over four decades of his life to the insurance industry. Even in the golden years of retirement, he continued to share his expertise in Medicare and Medicare Plan D. Terry was known for his volunteer work, including the Humboldt Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, Meals on Wheels, and Seniors Helping Seniors. He enjoyed attending reunions for the Army OV-1 Mohawk Association of Vietnam Veterans. Having a passion for the outdoors Terry not only enjoyed caring for his own yard, but members of the community appreciated his meticulous attention to detail. His family was the cornerstone to his existence, and he cherished them deeply. He enjoyed the countless trips to Lake of the Ozarks, family vacations in Mexico and Florida with his grandchildren, and the countless rides to and from school. The grandchildren adored the story books that he shared with them from his childhood as they knew that was always a bedtime treat. Terry was a pillar of strength, hard work ethic, loyalty, and unwavering love that was felt by everyone he encountered. His personality and eagerness to help will be missed by many. Terry was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife Jerri Leech of Nebraska City; children, Bridget (Denny) Hamilton of Jefferson City, MO, and Kirby (Anne) Bohl of Nebraska City; grandchildren, Reese, Raygan, and Flynn Hamilton, Zayden, and Ali Bohl; brother, Van (Kay) Leech of Humboldt; many other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P. M. to 8:00 P. M. Friday, December 8th, 2023, at Marshall Funeral Chapel in Nebraska City with the family greeting friends from 5:00 P. M. to 7:00 P. M. Karen J. Edmisten, age 84 of Nebraska City, NE passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at the Nemaha County Hospital in Auburn, NE. Karen J. (Johnson) Edmisten was born on March 23, 1939 in Shubert, NE; the daughter of George L. and Mabel J. (Jorgensen) Johnson. She attended school in the Shubert area and after the family moved to Nebraska City, she attended the Nebraska City High School. She later received her GED in 1977. Karen worked at American Meter in Nebraska City as an Assembler from 1967 until her retirement in 2001. She is survived by her children: Jackie Scharp (John) of Nebr. City, NE, Scooter Edmisten (Cheryl) of Nebr. City, NE and Lauri Dewey (Dan) of David City, NE; grandchildren: Travis Scharp, Justin Scharp, Robert Brown, Jason Edmisten, Nicolas Edmisten, Samantha Walker, Matt Kastl, Lucas Kastl, Wyatt Kastl and Kris Dewey; 14 great-grandchildren; other family and many friends. Karen was preceded in death by her son Randy Edmisten; stillborn children: Michael Edmisten, Kelli Edmisten and Michelle Edmisten; two brothers and their wives: Cecil Johnson (Opal) and Clarence Johnson (Eileen); parents George and Mabel Johnson and her father and mother-in-law Glen and Leola Edmisten. Serene I. (Gress) Hunt-Nolfo, age 94 of Nebraska City, NE passed away on Tuesday evening; November 14, 2023 at the Ambassador in Nebraska City. She was born on November 24, 1928 in Nebraska City, NE; the daughter of Theodore Carl "Tate" and Mary Julianna (Hallamann) Gress. Serene spent a wonderful early life in Nebraska City, attending and graduating in 1947 from Nebraska City High School. She attended Omaha Business College and worked 5 1/2 years for Highway Motor Freight beginning as a Billing Clerk and becoming the Office Manager. Leaving Omaha, she worked at Anderson Motor Freight as secretary and office manager. She moved to Chicago in August 1955 working at Zeno Trucking for a year and then left to venture to Chicago's famous La Salle St. District working for John Nuveen Company for 17 years. It was a wonderful company with many benefits. After the headquarters moved, Serene worked for Arthur Rubbuff, selling apartment condominiums. In six months, the project was completed and she went to Oak Brook, IL to work for a brokerage company. After years in apartments, Serene and Ernest purchased a home in LaGrange, IL just outside of Chicago. Ernest retired from Western Electric-now AT&T-in 1985 and he and Serene moved to Sun City, AZ and purchased a home there. Serene met a lot of friends and enjoyed retirement activities while Ernie enjoyed bowling. Later in life-while still in Arizona-Serene was working at Merrill Lynch and while at lunch she met Ludwing Nolfo on April 13, 1998. They had a very happy spring; meeting Lud's son and two daughters in his home town of St Louis, MO. They traveled on to Nebraska City to meet Serene's family. By June they were engaged, and on October 19, 1998 they were married. It was a wonderful and happy marriage with Lud passing away June 12, 2008. She was a member of St. Benedict's Catholic Church and Christian Mothers. She is survived by her brother Raymond Gress of Nebraska City; a niece Diane Lausterer (Kris) of Papillion, NE; nephews: Patrick Gress of Nebraska City, Christopher Gress (Jamie) of Lincoln, NE and Gregory Gress (Jane) of Raleigh, NC; step-daughter Pat Van de Riet of St Louis MO, step-son Andrew Nolfo of Sun City, AZ, numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Ernest Hunt and Ludwig Nolfo, a step daughter Felicia Callies and sister-in-law Carolyn Gress . Funeral Services will be held on Monday (Nov. 20) at 10:00 a. m. at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Nebraska City with Fr. Doug Daro celebrating the Mass. Doug L. Schnell, age 72 of Nebr. City passed away on November 1, 2023 at his home. Douglas Lester Schnell was born on May 21, 1951 in Lincoln, NE; the son of Reinhold W. and Veronica (Balas) Schnell. He grew up in Crete, NE with his eight siblings. He graduated from Crete High School with the Class of 1969. He later entered the United States Army and proudly served his country. He was honorably discharged on July 6, 1977, after serving five years and nine months. After returning from the military, Doug continued his schooling at Pasadena College of Chiropractic and obtained his Degree of Chiropractic Medicine. He married Karen Lawson on October 18, 1991. They later divorced. Doug was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous (A. A. ) and was proud of his sobriety for several years. He is survived by his former wife, Karen Schnell of Fayetteville, AR; daughters: Karey McCauley (James) of Lincoln, NE and Jennifer (Clay) Allsman of Lincoln, NE; five grandchildren: Andrew, Zachary and Mason McCauley and Sheldon and Thea Fotinos; two great-grandchildren: Jaylee McCauley and Ashton Fotinos; eight siblings: Mary Tripp (John) of Herkimer, NY, Kathy Wigington (Tom) of Nebr. Teri L. Fox-McCloskey, age 62 of Nebraska City, NE passed away on Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Teri Lynn Fox was born on February 26, 1961 in Omaha, NE; the daughter of David Elton and Caroline Marie (Ahrens) Fox. The family lived in Omaha until 1969, when they moved to Nebraska City. She graduated from Nebraska City High School with the Class of 1978. She then attended Peru State College, where she received a degree in Accounting in 1982. Teri also later received a degree in Computer Science. She was united in marriage to Ricky Lynn McCloskey on February 7, 1998 at the First United Methodist Church in Nebraska City. They shared 24 years together before his passing on June 27, 2022. Teri worked at Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) for some 30 years until 2015. She then went to work as a consultant at the Pennsylvania Power Plant. After a year and a half she returned home and worked at Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) until her retirement in 2021. In addition to her jobs at the power plants, Teri worked countless hours at Citizen Printing in Nebraska City, a shop started by her father. She began working at the print shop at a young age and continued the business after her father and mother passed away. She owned and operated Citizen Printing until the time of her death. Teri worked countless hours for the Nebraska City Alumni Association and was currently serving as their treasurer. Those left to cherish her memory include her son David Fox and wife Katherine of Lincoln, NE; granddaughter Olivia Fox; special grandchildren Samuel Bennett and Eliza Bennett; two sisters: Pamela Snyder (David) of Council Bluffs, IA and Deborah Fox (Joe) of Nebr. City; brother Mark Fox of Nebr. City; niece Crystal Bennett (Lance) of Otoe, NE; other family and many friends. Lee McGinnis, age 86 of Nebr. City, NE passed away at his home on October 24, 2023. Lee was born on October 6, 1937 at the family home near Blanchard, IA; the son of Theodore "Ted" G. and Mae I. (Whigham) McGinnis. He attended school in Coin, IA and graduated from Coin High School with the Class of 1956. He then attended Peru State College where he met the love of his life, Bev Schumacher. They were united in marriage on November 23, 1957. After they were married, Lee and Bev lived in Omaha where he worked as a sheet metal worker. He started farming with 143 acres in 1967. In 1968, they moved to Nebraska City to farm full time, along with raising cattle and hogs. He farmed full time until 2004, when he retired. He continued to help with the McGinnis Family Farms Operation until his passing. Lee enjoyed boating, water sports, snow skiing, and spending time at the Lake of the Ozarks with family and friends. Lee and Bev also enjoyed spending their winters in Florida. He was a lifetime member of the Eagles, and a former member of the Western Star Masonic Lodge and the Elks. He is survived by his wife of nearly 66 years, Bev McGinnis of Nebr. City; son Tim McGinnis (Special friend Melissa) of Nebr. City and Kent McGinnis (Cindy) of Nebr. City; four grandchildren: Derek (Taylor), Kylan, Kasey (Kali) and Kendra (special friend Owen); one great-granddaughter, Hadlie and one due in December; two sisters: Deloris Whitehill of Mountain Grove, MO and Donna Whitehill (Vance) of Stapleton, NE; nieces and nephews; other family and friends. Walter "Walt" H. Sellers, age 76 of Nebraska City, NE passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at St. Mary's Hospital in Nebr. City. Walter Haskel Sellers was born on August 23, 1947 in Ellisville, MS; the oldest child of Haskel Walter and Emilie Dorie (Parker) Sellers. He was raised in Mississippi, where he attended school through the 8th grade. At a young age, Walt's mother died and he was forced to quit school to help his father with the needs of the family. Walt's fondest memories growing up are based in his southern childhood roots. Walt was united in marriage to Sondra Joan Rico on January 10, 1969 in Nebraska City at the First Christian Church and to this union three children were born: Missi, Emily and Wally. He entered the United States Army on October 20, 1970 and served during the Vietnam War. During his time in the service, he served in Germany. He was honorably discharged on April 20, 1972. He worked at Morton House, Blue Star Foods and then began a 30 year career at American Meter, where he worked as a welder in the Die Cast Department. After retiring from the Meter Plant, he worked at WalMart for 16 years where he was in the Sporting Goods Department. Walt loved the outdoors, especially fishing and coon hunting. He was a member of the American Legion. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 54 years, Sondra Sellers of Nebr. City; children: Missi Surette (Corey) of Russellville, AR, Emily Gillott (Mike) of Nebr. City and Wally Sellers (sig. other Natasha Borrego) of Nebr. City; 15 grandchildren: Makenzie, Alexis, Carter, Gavin, Isabelle, Presley, River, Haze, Gaige, Braxton, Talan, Isaiah, Bostin, Scarlett and Kip; three great-grandchildren and two on the way; sisters: Winnie Faye Rogers of Lakeland, FL and Rosalie Stewart of Brooklyn, MS; brother-in-law Roger Oliver of Brooklyn, MS; numerous nieces and nephews; other family and many friends. Karen Suzanne Curtis was born on October 5, 1950 in Flint, Michigan; the daughter of Lewis M. and Dorothy L. (Demski) Curtis. Her parents later divorced and her mom married Joe Saucier and her dad married Lillian Curtis. Karen worked at Region V for many years and enjoyed the many friends she made there. While at Region V, she worked in various capacities including marking bags that were made for the US Government. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She is survived by cousins: Deb Adams, Jimmy Curtis and Bobby Curtis all of Michigan; half-brother James Humphrey of Indiana; numerous second cousins, her Region V family and other friends. Karen was preceded in death by her parents Lewis and Dorothy as well as her step-father Joe Sacier and step-mother Lillian Curtis. Elyana Jo Jamison was born to Dominic Jamison and Aireeona McBride on May 1, 2023 in Beatrice, Nebraska. This little girl was a ray of sunshine to our lives for the brief time she was with us. She dearly loved being with her sister Rosalee and getting kisses from her. She couldn't go without her binky or her blanket. Her special nicknames were Bubbles and Elly. Her favorite toy was her green rattle. She loved her cats, Mabel and Luna and Daisy the dog. Elyana loved going for walks in her double stroller. She passed away unexpectedly on October 11, 2023 in Nebraska City at the age of 5 months and 10 days. Elyana will be forever loved and remembered. "Now she flies with the butterflies. Theresa Marie Byram, age 92, of Auburn, NE, died Sunday, October 8, 2023, at CHI St. Mary's Hospital in Nebraska City. Theresa was born on April 26, 1931, in Madawaska, ME, to Joseph Lagasse and Susan (Sirois) Lagasse. She was married on January 26, 1950, to Clarence Byram in Caribou, ME. In addition to living in Maine, she has also lived in Southington, CT, and Bunnell, FL, before moving to Nebraska in 2007. She had been one of Jehovah's Witnesses for 67 years. Theresa and Clarence raised five children in Caribou. After moving to Southington, they decided it was too cold, and so they moved to Bunnell, FL. They had an apartment built that was connected to their daughter's house in Auburn. Clarence and Theresa were married for 67 years before Clarence died in June of 2017. Throughout her life, Theresa loved serving Jehovah God and talking to others about his wonderful promises that are held out in the Bible. In her elderly years, she loved making puzzles and keeping up with her spiritual routine. Theresa was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; granddaughter, Crystal Malone; four brothers and four sisters. She is survived by her five children, Rena Molle and husband Mark of Wallkill, NY; David Byram and wife Linda of Palm Coast, FL; Cathy Lachance and husband Marc of Auburn, NE; Dale Byram and wife Rhonda of Palm Coast, FL; and Carol Acevedo of Auburn,NE; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and two fleshly sisters.Show more
