Ms. Dorothy Lamour Vaught,75 of Navarre, FL, passed away on, Tuesday, June 14, 2022. Ms. Vaught is the daughter of the late U. J. Howell and Alice Pear Cox was born September 14, 1946 in Goldsboro, North Carolina. She attended the public schools of Wayne County and was a graduate of Dillard High School. She was a faithful believer in Jesus Christ and upon relocating to Navarre, Florida she joined New Life Deliverance Temple Church where she was a dedicated member and served faithfully as Mother of the Church and Chair of the Disaster Relief Ministry under the leadership of her beloved pastors, Bishop Mark A, Williams and Apostle Brenda M. Williams. She also served as Vice-President of Blacks in Government (BIG). Ms. Vaught worked for the United States government for more than 38 years in Human Resource Management, executing policies and integrating programs of the Civilian Personnel Flight both stateside and overseas. She began her career in Civilian Personnel in 1983 as Chief LMR/EMR at Seymour Johnson AFB, NC. From 1987-1988 she served as Chief LMR/EMR at Langley AFB, VA before moving on to serve as Chief LMR/EMR with a promotion to Deputy Civilian Personnel Officer from 1988-2003 at Yokota AB, Japan. While serving in HR she earned numerous meritorious awards for exemplary civilian service. She retired from Civilian Personnel in December 2018, but immediately rejoined the Hurlburt Field workforce, bringing herself out of retirement. She continued working until her death. Throughout the years She made many friends and touched the lives and hearts of all those who were fortunate enough to cross her path. She knew no stranger and would give the shirt off her back. As a result of her generous spirit and pleasant personality, she was loved by many. Her Christian life was as beautiful as she was, and her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her. She quietly departed this life Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at her home in Navarre, Florida. She was preceded in death by her father, U. J. Howell; Her mother, Alice P. Cox, Grandmother, Ocie Shackleford, brothers James Ervin Cox, Gerald Howell, Ronald Howell, U. J. Howell, Jr, Eddie Jones, Linwood Kornegay, and sister Belinda Kornegay. Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children: Tammy Armstrong, Alicia (Michael) Pettus, DeMario Bowman all of Navarre, FL; Dextricia Vaught of Austin, TX; a very special adopted son, Jerry Edwards of Korea; her sisters Brenda Davis (Thomas) of Portland, OR, Alice Faye Cox of Goldsboro, NC, Danny Ray Cox of NY, Donnie Howell and Clifton Howell (Valerie), both of Goldsboro, NC She will be loved and cherished by fifteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren; and a host of spiritually adopted children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who affectionately call her 'Nana'. She will forever be loved and cherished by her devoted family members: a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and friends as well as her New Life Deliverance Temple Church Family in Navarre, Florida.
