Obituary of Dorothy Unger Dorothy (McNeil) Unger, 98, of Newtown, beloved wife of the late Louis A. Unger, Jr. died on Monday, February 11, 2019 at Filosa for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Danbury. She was born in Brooklyn, NY on January 28, 1921, daughter of the late Alexander and Mary (Langton) McNeil. She was a graduate of Danbury High School, Class of 1938. Twenty-nine years later, she continued her education at Western Connecticut State University and also earned her Masters in Education. Devoted to education, Dorothy was an enthusiastic fourth grade teacher at Meeting House Hill School in New Fairfield. She was longtime parishioner of St. Rose of Lima in Newtown. Dorothy was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who cherished time with her family. She also enjoyed traveling, being adventurous and spending time at her second home in Satellite Beach, FL. In her last years, she was lovingly cared for by the fabulous staff at Filosa. She will be dearly missed by her children, Louis A. "Tony" Unger III (Karen) of Beals, ME, Ellen Curran (Thomas) of Newtown, Neil Unger (Susan) of Newtown, and Kathleen Holt of Storrs. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 10 nieces and nephews. Dorothy was predeceased by her daughter, Jane Unger, grandson James Holt, and brother, Robert McNeil. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 15th (her 78th wedding anniversary) at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter Church, Danbury, with Msgr. Robert Weiss as celebrant. Burial will be in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury.
