Potsdam - Dorothy M (Wiltrout) Swanson, 92, passed on Monday, October 2, 2023 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital where she had been a patient for a short time As she wished, there will be no calling hours A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family Dorothy was born July 27, 1931 in Detroit, Michigan, a daughter of the late Myrtle (Gonger) Wiltrout and Harold E Wiltrout The family moved to Ashland, Ohio where she attended and graduated from Ashland City Schools and later Ashland College Her major subject of interest was music - she accompanied the high school choir on piano; played bassoon and cello in the high school band and orchestra and later played 1st bassoon in the Ashland Symphony Orchestra She worked for Drs Schafer and Bogniard in Ashland for many years On August 14, 1955, she married Charles E Swanson at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Ashland He predeceased her on March 5, 1983 She was employed in the Accounting Offices at the Illinois Research Hospital, U of Illinois at Navy Pier, Chicago; Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois; Kent State University, Kent, Ohio; and was Assistant Business Manager of the College Bookstore, State University of New York at Potsdam for 10 years She and her husband owned and operated The Greenery in Potsdam for several years before moving to Blue Mountain Lake, New York in 1980 where she was employed as Executive Assistant to the Director of the Adirondack Museum from 1980 until 2007 Upon retirement, Dorothy moved back to Potsdam During the years in Blue Mountain Lake, her favorite pastime was playing "The Oldies" on a Lowery Organ during the diner hours at two local resorts during the summer tourist season She enjoyed being with her family, traveling, and attending concerts, and partying with her friends Dorothy is survived by a grandson, Aaron P Swanson, daughter-in-law, Monica Swanson, brother-in-law, David Swanson, nephew Michael Swanson and niece Brenda Wiltrout as well as many cousins and friends scattered throughout New York and the Mid-West In addition to her beloved husband Charles and parents, Myrtle and Harold, she was predeceased by her twin sons, Keith and Kevin Swanson and a sister Mary Helen Spencer Memorial contributions can be made in her name to the Adirondack Museum, Office of Institutional Advancement, P O Box 99, Blue Mountain Lake, NY 12812 Memories and condolences may be shared online at www olearyfuneralservice com Arrangements for Dorothy M (Wiltrout) Swanson are under the care of the O'Leary Funeral Service of Canton To to the family or in memory of Dorothy M (Wiltrout) Swanson, please

AlbanyErica Kay Waters, Esq. , age 32, passed away on the evening of October 30, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born and raised in Canton, New York. She earned her bachelor's degree from Randolph-Macon College in Virginia, graduating early, and graduated from Albany Law School of Union University in 2015, again remarkably graduating early. Among her survivors are her significant other, David I. Iversen, of Albany; her parents, Rolf and Yvonne Waters, of Slingerlands; her brother, Camron Waters, of Rochester; and her maternal grandparents, John and Kay Mcintosh, of Canton, along with several cousins. She also leaves behind her supportive best friend, Asa Neff, and his two children, Thomas and Abigail Neff. She treated Thomas and Abigail as if they were her own and they gave her incredible comfort and support over the past year. Claude Burdick

Claude Burdick, 88, of Waddington passed away Wednesday, November 08, 2023 surrounded by family and under the care of Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley. Claude was born February 21, 1935 at the family farm and sawmill in Bucks Bridge, NY to Ward and Loretta Burdick. He was a 1954 graduate of Potsdam High School. Claude married Barbara Wheeler in 1956. Claude started his working career with GLF/Agway before returning to the family dairy farm in West Potsdam in 1961. He ran the dairy farm for 39 years, retiring in 2000. In addition to operating the dairy farm he was active in the community, especially with agricultural organizations serving on the boards of Northern Bulk Milk Coop, Agway, Allied Federated Coops and the Potsdam Central School board. In retirement he volunteered with the St. Lawrence Power and Equipment Museum in Madrid, NY. After retirement Claude and Barbara moved to Brookview Drive in Waddington and spent a number of years as snowbirds in Florida. Claude is survived by his wife, Barbara and children: Brian (Lisa) Burdick of Norwood, NY, Scott (Angel) Burdick of Chesapeake, VA, Pat Burdick and Terri Burdick of Canton, NY as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also survived by brother Gale Burdick of Poland, NY and sisters Ellen Planty of Norwood, NY and Joyce Sill of Argyle, NY. Claude was predeceased by his daughter Debra Burdick and sister Barbara Day. Carlton Doane

Canton - Carlton Lee Doane, 86, died peacefully in the comfort of his home on Tuesday, October 31, 2023. Carlton was born April 9, 1937 in Bakersfield, Vermont, a son of the late Tennyson and Floy (Camp) Doane. He attended Bakersfield Schools and achieved graduate degrees from University of Vermont and St. Lawrence University. On October 16, 1965, he married Phyllis Ellen Thompson, whom he shared 58 wonderful years. Carlton possessed many different attributes, firstly he was a generous giver of both time and money, giving to numerous charities and causes over his lifetime. Second, he was a Vermont Mountain Man, growing up in northern Vermont, he developed a love for the area that spanned his lifetime. He was a professional volunteer, setting an example as a leader, whether at the Canton United Methodist Church or for the many other organizations to which he contributed. Carlton was a cat lover, especially Miss Hermit. He had an appreciation for music having been a former member of the Canton Goldenaires and the church choir. Carlton enjoyed splitting his time between homes, he and Phyllis were "Snow Birds" in Florida, Ocean Lovers in Maine, Mountain Viewers in Vermont and just Phyllis and Carlton at their home in Morley. Lastly, but most importantly, he was a family man to his wife, children and grandchildren. Carlton worked for the Cornell Cooperative Extension 4H Program in Franklin and St. Lawrence Counties, he was the Director of Comprehensive Employment and Training Act (CETA) for St. Lawrence County and he worked as a counselor for the NYS Department of Corrections. Over the years, Carlton was awarded several community service awards, such as the Pamona Grange Public Service, Rachel Somers Grant Social Action from the Unitarian Universalist Church, Community Volunteer of the Year from Ogdensburg and Riverview Correctional Facilities, Jacqueline Sears Volunteer Award, and St. Lawrence County Senior Citizen of the Year. Carlton was President of the New York State Wide Senior Action Council, Morley Cemetery Association, St. Lawrence Chapter of AARP, St. Lawrence Valley Dog Club and Assistant Director of the North Central New York Walk to Emmaus. He was a member of the Northern Flow United Methodist District Committee of Ordained Ministry, the St. Lawrence County Office of the Aging Advisory Council, Canton Community Fund, Kairos Prison Ministry, Rotary, a former 4H Leader and National 4H Fellow. Carlton was treasurer of the Silas Wright Grange, founder of the Free Will Dinner at the Canton UMC, and help with 12 Guiding Eye Dogs. Carlton is survived by he devoted wife of 58 years, Phyllis Ellen Thompson Doane, three children, Jonathan (Marie) Doane, Carlene Doane (Abdelkrim Moumen) and Nathaniel Doane, grandchildren, Christopher and Alexander Doane and Zakaria, Maysa, Salma and Amal Moumen, and nieces and nephews. Rose Camp

Age - 99

Rose Maguire Camp was born in Ireland December 22, 1923 to Mary A. Kavanaugh and Patrick J. Maguire. She emigrated to Canada with her family at the age of 10 months and then again to the United States soon afterwards. Rose was a beautiful woman inside and out who lived a full and joyful life. She was prim, proper, and modest and dressed to the nines with hair and makeup always on point. She was kindhearted and compassionate, and she saw good in everyone and everything. Rose married Ken Camp and lived together in Pierrepont until his passing. Rose was involved in the community in many different ways. She was a parishioner of St. Patrick's Catholic Church of Colton, always lending a hand at the annual turkey dinners, you could find her each year organizing and cutting the pies that were served. She was a member of the senior citizen's club in Colton, as well as a cunning card player at the Cook's Corner School house. She square danced every Friday night with the lovely women and men of the Skirts and Flirts in Canton. Lastly, she loved working for Clarkson University in the Student Union Cafeteria, saying the students and faculty were always so wonderful and polite. As the oldest of eight, nothing compared to the love she had for her large extended Irish family. She loved her brothers and sisters fiercely and treated their children and grandchildren as her own. She threw wonderful parties at her home, whether to celebrate family coming over from the old country, a birthday, a holiday, or just because it had been too long since they were all together. Every gathering was always filled with a lot of love and even more laughter. Also, it must be mentioned that Rose made the best old fashion donuts which earned her the name we so lovingly gave her, Aunt Rosie Donut. She was such a lovely presence in our lives, and she will be dearly missed. Thank you to Highland Nursing Home/North Country Nursing and Rehabilitation for years of care and treating her like family. Rose leaves behind a step-daughter, Roberta (Anson -D. ) Fifield, two brothers, John Maguire (Luella -D. ) and Vinnie (Kathy) Maguire, Bob's wife Sharon Camp, step-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Rose was predeceased by her parents Mary and Patrick, her step-son Bob Camp, her brother Patrick Maguire, her four sisters, Mary Bronson Wood, Viola Bronson, Gertrude Adams, and Irene Bronson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 8, 2023 at 11:00 am at St. Patrick's Church in Colton. There will be a calling hour from 10:00 am until the time of the Mass. John Coloton

Age - 91

John "Jack" Lawson Coloton, 91, of DeKalb Junction, passed away after a prolonged cancer battle on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at home surrounded by the love and support of his family. Jack was born on January 24, 1932 in North Russell, New York, a son of the late Howard & Zelda Lawson Coloton. As a boy, Jack attended a one room school house in North Russell. After the sudden unexpected passing of his father, Jack left school to help provide for the family on the farm. He enlisted in the US Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict. He was extremely proud of his time in the US Air Force, spending much time in Europe. Upon his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Jack married Janet McDonald on February 8, 1958, in St. Paul's Catholic Church, Pyrites, New York. Janet predeceased him on September 26, 2022. He worked for Martin's Beer Plant in Canton, operated a dairy farm for approximately 40 years in Hermon and worked as the mechanic at Canton ATC and later SUNY Canton until his retirement in 1994. After his retirement he worked part-time as a courier for the Community Bank for many years. He was a lifelong member of the Beech Ridge hunting club and Indian Trail hunting clubs in Clare and Degrasse. He enjoyed hunting, farming, volunteering at the Knights of Columbus in Canton and spending time with his family. Jack is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Anne Williams, DeKalb Jct. , NY and Mrs. Larry (Kay) Amo, Russell, NY, a brother, Michael Coloton of Buchanan, Virginia and two sister-in-law's, Constance Coloton of North Carolina and Mrs. Michael (Faye) Foster of Hannawa Falls. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Bryan Williams, Travis Amo and Mrs. Jonathan (Kelly) Williams Zakarauskas, along with three great grandchildren, Cooper Zakarauskas, Zena Williams and Charley Zakarauskas. His grandchildren were all the apple of his eye. In addition to his parents and beloved wife Janet, Jack was predeceased by a son-in-law, Gregg Williams, and his siblings, Doris Lamm, James Coloton, Anne Coller, Elizabeth "Betty" Hubbard, and Thomas Coloton. Calling hours will be held on Friday, September 1, 2023 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the O'Leary Funeral Home, Canton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, September 2, 2023 at St. Mary's Church, Canton, with Father Bryan Stitt, pastor, celebrating. Burial in the Hermon cemetery will follow.
