Harrisburg, PA

Mrs. Dorothy Elizabeth LaSota, age 66, transitioned into glory on October 3, 2023. She entered heaven from a peaceful sleep in her home in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. She was born in Reading, PA on January 28, 1957, to William T. and Dorothy J. (Lewis) Reckley, who preceded her in death in May 2020 and September 2021, respectively. Betsy, as she was affectionately known, was raised in Hamburg, PA. In her later childhood, her family moved to Temple, PA and she attended Muhlenberg High School, graduating in 1974. Betsy had great compassion for others and briefly studied nursing at a local Penn State campus. She was employed at the Hamburg Center as a nursing aide in 1976, where she met the love of her life, John M. LaSota. They married on May 26, 1979. Betsy's full-time vocation then became growing a strong family, and she dedicated 43 years of her life to the rearing, loving, and guiding of her and John's four children. Betsy was a woman who loved her family and Jesus. She was a cerebral person and not one to mince words. She understood the power of a good word in due season. Betsy desired uplifting conversation about the finer things in life. She enjoyed meeting people and welcomed many visitors and new friends into her home over the span of her life, truly caring for their well-being, but her focus was her family and she did not waver from the constant heart work of motherhood. She cultivated the peace of stillness, enjoying bird watching, playing the piano, journaling, reading, cross-stitching, eating good food, and meditating on God's word. Betsy laughed easily and often and was known for her quirky humor. She created a home of laughter, music, and love. Her grandchildren knew her as Grammy, and she cherished this role. She lived for her children and grandchildren, whom she constantly talked about and prayed for, setting an example of kindness and grace. Surviving is her husband, John, of Harrisburg, PA, and her four children, Joshua, husband of Kathleen (Chester), of Wichita Falls, TX, Jacqueline, wife of Chad Rettew, of Harrisburg, PA, Stephanie, wife of Nicholas Ernst, of Stonington, CT, and Dane, husband of Caitlyn (Deist), of Temple, PA. Betsy has 10 beautiful grandchildren; Szaylah (17), Adira (13), Emily (11), Eden (10), Jude (10), Elise (9), Ethan (7), Elias (7) Levi (5), and Juliet (2). She is also survived by her loving brothers, Robert M. Reckley of Temple, PA, and Brian S. Reckley, husband of JeriLynn (Miller), of Oley, PA, parents of her beloved nephews Adam R. , husband of Blanton V. (Box) (children William and Cooper), Benjamin M. , and her niece, Joanna K. Also surviving are in-laws Robert and Paulette LaSota of Dupont, PA, Ralph LaSota of Duryea, PA, Thomas and Janet LaSota of West Pittston, PA, Julian and Sue LaSota of Moscow, PA, Nancy Grill of Pittston, PA, Laura LaSota of Yatesville, PA, and Robin LaSota of Bernville, PA, as well as a plethora of nieces and nephews. Betsy gave freely of her time and resources. In lieu of flowers, donate your love to your family and friends. Walk humbly with God, give your time, and speak sweetly to those around you. Friends and family may call at the Jesse H. Geigle Funeral Home, 2100 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania 17110, on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, from 10:30 to 11:30 A.
