EAST FISHKILL - Dorothy Jean Gardner, 88, died on October 6, 2023 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. Born in Poughkeepsie on March 9, 1935, she was the daughter of William and Daisy (Porter) VanVoorhis. Dottie has worked as a bank manager for several local banks including Fishkill National Bank, The Bank of New York and M&T Bank. She retired as the Vice President of Country Bank in Carmel. Dottie was a parishioner of St. Columba Church in Hopewell Junction. She was also a member of the East Fishkill Seniors. She enjoyed crocheting, bowling and decorating for the holidays. On October 17, 1954 at St. Mary's Church in Poughkeepsie, Dottie married Clayton "Bud" Gardner who predeceased her on February 18, 2005. She was also predeceased by her son, Kevin, in 1996; her granddaughter, Haleigh in 1996; and her siblings, Rosemary Hill and her husband Lonnie, and William VanVoorhis, Jr. Dottie is survived by her daughters, Kelly Panzanaro and Karen Gardner Salvatore and her husband, Michael; her grandson, Joshua; and many nieces and nephews. "Today I'm ascending into heaven to be with my Lord and my loving family: my husband Clayton "Bud" Gardner (2005), my son Kevin J. Gardner (1986), and my granddaughter Haleigh (1996). My journey in life was filled with happiness, and sometimes heartache. My senior years were spent with friends at the East Fishkill Community Center; there we shared much laughter and a few tears. I thank you for your friendship. Sadly, I will miss the smiles of my beautiful Kelly, Karen, her husband Michael, and my most precious gift in life, Joshua. Those who know me will know what this means: Did I tell you today? No - but I'll tell you tomorrow. Joshua, you are a wonderful young man. EAST FISHKILL - Barbara Elizabeth Scampoli, 80, died peacefully on October 12, 2023, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born in the Bronx on December 5, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Elizabeth (Testa) Willson. Barbara was a parishioner of St. Columba Church. As a young woman, she was a talented dancer who spent time dancing with the USO, supporting our military personnel. She loved crocheting, jewelry making, watching true crime stories and rodeos. But more than anything in this world, Barbara loved spending time with her 14 grandchildren. Whether it was a phone call or crafting, Barbara had a connection with each one. She lit up with the mere mention of any one of them. On October 14, 1972, in the Bronx, Barbara married the love of her life, William Scampoli, who survives at home. She will be missed dearly by her three children and their spouses, William and Meghan Scampoli, Gina and Carter Boalt, Maria and Greg Duffy and John Smith whom she loved as her own child; her grandchildren, Brittany, Carter Jr, William, Lowell, Mason, Benjamin, Mae, Rose, Samuel, Hope, Madalyn, Emily, Shannon and John; her sisters, Mary Nichols and Patty Stone; and several nieces and nephews. She is loved and will be missed by all. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2-6pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc. , 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday at 11:30am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery. EAST FISHKILL - James Callan Moroney, Jr. , 79, an area resident for 47 years, died on July 2, 2023 at his home after battling numerous ailments over the last few years. Born in Washington, DC on November 13, 1943, he was the son of James C. Moroney, Sr. and Catherine (Hutchins) Moroney. Jim served our country in the US Navy prior to becoming a proud father and husband. He had been employed as a data processor for both Boehringer-Ingelheim and Krasdale Foods. Jim was a parishioner of St. Columba Church. He loved to garden, golf with his sons, doodle characters and he never met an animal he didn't love. But more than anything he loved spending time with his family and rooting for his beloved Yankees. On October 21, 1967 at St. Pius X Church in Scarsdale, Jim married his high-school sweetheart Joyce Brooks and embarked on a life-long journey that Joyce cherishes to this day. He is survived by his wife and their three sons and their wives; James and Carlin Moroney of Dartmouth MA, Kevin and Molly Moroney of Hunt Valley MD, and Andrew and Michelle Moroney of Lagrangeville NY; his grandchildren, Ellen, Hannah, Katie, Callan, Mackenzie, Taylor, Kendall, Kyleigh and Lainey; his siblings, Katherine Hering and husband Peter, and Brian Moroney; and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his adored sister, Shirley McCall. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4-7pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc. , 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. EAST FISHKILL - On Sunday, May 21, 2023, Kathleen Mary Fischer, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt passed away peacefully at home. She was born in Queens on August 19, 1954 to the late Thomas and Grace (Curtis) Paulsen and grew up in Levittown. Kathy was a passionate person who embraced life to the fullest. She enjoyed spending summers in her 20's in The Hamptons where she met the love of her life, Richard, who survives her. She relocated to East Fishkill where they were married in 1984 at the Hopewell Reformed Church and they built a beautiful home and life for their sons. Upon her relocation to East Fishkill, Kathy began her career at Medicus Immediate & Occupational Health Services in the business office and eventually became promoted as the Chief Operating Officer. As a gracious and deeply caring person, she was an active volunteer and board member for Meals on Wheels of Wappingers Falls where she met so many wonderful friends. She enjoyed vacationing in the Caribbean, Europe and the US. The Hamptons and Montauk continued to hold a special place in her heart where her entire family gathers every summer. She enjoyed cooking for everyone, planning and photographing special gatherings as well as attending countless live concerts with friends and family. In addition to her husband, Kathy cherished and is survived by her sons, Andrew Fischer and his wife Stephanie of Midland, MI and Jeremy Fischer of Phoenix, AZ. She will be missed by her grandchildren, John (Chandler) Fischer and Steven Fischer of Midland, MI, Benjamin Fischer and Samantha Fischer of Phoenix, AZ and her great granddaughter Charley Kathleen Fischer; her brother, Thomas Paulsen; her sisters, Margaret (John) Sullivan and Mary (Ralph) Celentani; her brother-in-law, Robert (Dawn) Fischer and sisters-in-law, Donna Paulsen and Francine Fischer. She will be remembered as a dear aunt to her many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Kathleen was preceded in death by her brother, Timothy Paulsen; her brother-in-law, Hans Fischer; her sister-in-law, Carol Paulsen and her father and mother-in-law, Hans and Toos Fischer. A Funeral Mass will be held in her honor on Friday, May 26 at 11:00 a. m. at St. Kateri Church, 1925 Route 82, Lagrangeville.
