Mr. Alvin Erith "Buddy" Harper, Jr. was a remarkable man whose life was filled with love, dedication, and a strong commitment to his family. He passed away peacefully at his residence on November 24, 2023, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. A Memorial service will be held at a later date. Buddy was born April 22, 1937 in Gastonia, North Carolina to the late Rev. Alvin Erith Harper, Sr. , and Irene Stafford Harper. Buddy began his professional career as an engine inspector for Delta Airlines where he later retired. His work at Delta Airlines allowed him to showcase his meticulous nature and attention to detail. As a perfectionist, he took great pride in ensuring that each aircraft he inspected met the highest safety standards. Buddy‘s commitment to excellence was recognized by his colleagues and superiors alike. During his youth, Buddy served in the United States Navy as a proud and honorable member. His time in the Navy instilled in him values of loyalty, duty, and service to others, traits that would define him throughout his life. Outside of his professional endeavors, Buddy was a man of many interests and hobbies. He had an unmatched artistic flair that transcended various mediums. His talent for building and fitting objects was truly impressive; he could construct anything from dollhouses to rocking horses and furniture. Amongst his favorite pastimes were classic cars and traveling. Buddy had an insatiable curiosity for exploring new places and experiencing different cultures. His adventurous spirit led him on countless journeys around the globe, creating memories that will forever be cherished. Buddy was loved by all who had the pleasure of crossing paths with him. His kind and gentle nature endeared him to everyone he met, forming lasting friendships and leaving an indelible mark on their lives. He possessed a vast knowledge that he willingly shared, eager to engage in meaningful conversations and learn from others. Buddy is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Fran Underwood Harper; his daughter and son-in-law, Christian and Vince Thompson; his son and son-in-law, Darren and Brandon Harper. His grandchildren, Sarah Isabel (Willis) Lott and Vincent Wyatt Thompson, brought immense joy into his life. His great-grandchild, Waylon Vince Lott, continued to sow the seeds of love and happiness for generations to come. His sisters, Peggy Walker and Linda Bradley. Their bond as siblings was unbreakable, a testament to the strength of family ties. The loss of Buddy is deeply felt by all those who knew him. However, we find solace in the memories he left behind, the impact he made on our lives, and the enduring legacy of love he leaves behind. Myrna Jean Childs Wiggins, age 86 of the Waterloo community, passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at the Maple Court Assisted Living Center in Tifton. Myrna Jean was born May 2, 1937 in Irwin County to the late Aubry Adkins Childs & Clonnie Lou Veal Childs. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson; Joshua Wiggins, brother; Stanford Childs, sister & brother-in-law; and Malone & Bill Daugherty. Funeral services will be held at Macedonia Baptist Church at 2:00 P. M. on Sunday, November 19, 2023 with Dr. Danny Wiggins and Rev. Corey Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends before the service on Sunday at the church from 1:00 to 1:45 P. M. The grandsons will serve as pallbearers along with Jasper Goodman and her great grandson, Landon Haire. The Deacons of Macedonia Church, & Waterloo Homemakers Club will serve as the honorary pallbearers. Myrna Jean led a fulfilling life centered around Christ, her loved ones & her passions. She attended Irwin County High School & went on to graduate from ABAC with a major in Home Economics. Her love for learning & dedication to education was evident throughout her life. During her life, Myrna Jean was an active member of Macedonia Baptist Church. She devoted countless hours to service as a Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School Teacher, Church Song Leader & Choir leader. Her commitment extended beyond teaching; she also took on the role of leader for the preparation of communion in the church & contributed greatly to its growth & spiritual well-being. In addition to her involvement with the church, Myrna Jean's community spirit shone through her memberships of the Ladies Auxiliary of Macedonia & the Waterloo Homemaker's Club. Through these affiliations, she connected with others who shared similar interests & passions. Myrna Jean had a strong creative side that brought joy to her life. She spent many blissful hours working in her yards, cultivating beautiful gardens that were admired by all who passed by. Moreover, she possessed remarkable talent in sewing, which she used to create treasured items for her loved ones. Along with her church, her family held the utmost importance in Myrna Jean's heart. She cherished every moment spent with them & made sure they knew they were loved unconditionally. Myrna Jean is survived by her cherished husband of sixty-six years, Jerry Eugene Wiggins; her daughters & sons-in-law: Pam & Danny Haire of Waterloo, Holly & Ira Tucker of Lands Crossing; her son & daughter-in-law: Danny & Beth Wiggins of Enterprise, Al. Her grandchildren, Aubry & Lee Haire, Allen & Kayla Haire, Bradley & Brooke Tucker, Bryan & Addie Tucker, Zach Wiggins & Jessie & Robert Mock brought immeasurable joy to her life. Myrna Jean was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Abbie Haire, Landon Haire, Anniston Haire, Charlee Haire, Ava Haire, Zayden Tucker, Willa Tucker, Lindy Tucker, Taylor Tucker, Cade Tucker, Bowen Tucker, and Liam Mock. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Carolyn Childs of Pine Mtn. Myrna Jean Childs Wiggins will be remembered as a devoted wife, a loving mother & grandmother, a faithful church member, and a dedicated friend. Her legacy of love, compassion, and creativity will continue to inspire those whose lives she touched.
