Dorothy P. Christian, formerly Dorothy Virginia Pierce, 84, of Winchester, passed away September 9, 2023, at home surrounded by loved ones. Dorothy was born on October 8, 1938, in Winchester, VA, the daughter of the late Dandy and Lilly M. Tomblin Pierce. She was raised in Clarke County. Dorothy attended John Handley High School and attended Round Hill Church in Winchester. She worked at Glaize Packing Shed; her favorite occupation was Domestic Engineer helping raise her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nephews Robert, Roger, and Ronnie Minnick. Dorothy loved being outside working with her beautiful flowers. She never missed an opportunity to go on a trip be it New York City, Sight & Sound, shopping with family, and the annual family beach trip. Dorothy also enjoyed an occasional trip to the slots. For the past 15 years she and husband, Jimmy, have enjoyed walking at the mall making new friends who have become extended family. Dorothy married James P. Christian, Jr. on December 15,1956 in Hagerstown, MD. Surviving with her husband of 66 years is a son: J. P. Christian (Brenda) of Winchester, VA; two daughters: Debbie K. Hite (John-deceased) of Bloomery, WV; Barbara C. Salyer (Joe) of Winchester, VA; 7 grandchildren: Jimmy Lee Armel of Savannah, GA; Bethany Crouse (Christopher) of Slanesville, WV; Nathan (Casey) of Augusta, WV; Stefanie Loyd (Ben) of Bloomery, WV; April Phillips (Lloyd) of Winchester, VA; Kelsey Sanders (Matthew) of Sacramento, CA; Olivia Christian of Winchester, VA; 8 great grandchildren: John and Daniel Crouse; Jacob and Gracie Hite, Isaiah and Noah Phillips, Aubrey Sanders, Anna Loyd, 1 on the way; and a brother Jimmy Pierce of Stephens City, VA. Dorothy is preceded in death by 8 brothers and 2 sisters. The family will receive friends and family at Giffin Funeral Home & Crematory, 2807 Northwestern Pike, Capon Bridge, WV on Thursday, September 14th, from 6:00-8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, September 15th, at 11:00 AM with a graveside service to follow at Little Mountain Church, 29 Little Mountain Church Road, Winchester, VA. Ronald Maurice "Ron" Strosnider, 75, of Wardensville, WV, died on Friday, October 20, 2023 at the Winchester Medical Center. Ron was born on December 21, 1947 in Winchester, VA, the son of the late Wilbur J. and Nevaline Vincent Strosnider. He attended James Wood High School, Nashville Auto Diesel College and James Rumsey Technical School. He was a mechanic all of his life and there wasn't anything he couldn't fix. Ron worked for Rubbermaid Commercial Products, Simbeck, Inc. and owned & operated Ron's Chevron in Wardensville. He was a member of the Capon Valley Vol. Fire Department having served for 37 years and the Wardensville United Methodist Church serving as a Trustee. Ron had a love of hunting, fishing and taking his grandchildren hunting. He belonged to the Half Moon Hunt Club. One of his hobbies was racing. Whether he was behind the wheel street racing, turning wrenches or watching his favorite NASCAR driver, Dale Earnhart on Sundays. He loved being apart of it. He grew up around the Winchester Speedway helping and competing. Later in life, he was back at his roots when he loved helping his son, Joey, during his short racing term. His favorite past time was spending time with his family, especially his great-grandchildren and going to all of his grandchildren's ball games. His greatest joy was spending time with the love of his life, Pam. Ron married Pamela D. "Pam" Strosnider on May 13, 1978 in Alexandria, VA. Surviving with his wife of 45 years is a son: Joseph C. "Joey" Strosnider of Wardensville, WV; a daughter: Lisa A. Orndorff of Mathias, WV; a son-in-law: Michael Coffman of Wardensville, WV; two sisters: Donna McFarland of Yellow Spring, WV; Dianne Garber of Stephens City, VA and six grandchildren. He is preceded in death by a daughter: Ginger L. Coffman and a brother: W. Leon Strosnider. A funeral service will be held at the Wardensville United Methodist Church on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at 11:00 AM. Officiating will be Pastors Robert Oakley & Susie Largent. She was a member of Wardensville United Methodist Church having served with the Women's Church Group & choir. Shirley enjoyed music,reading her books and was a valuable greeter at the Loy-Giffin Funeral Home in Wardensville. Shirley married Ray O. Brill on August 23, 1952, in Winchester, VA. Ray died on February 12, 2004. Surviving are two sons: Lomand H. "Ike" Brill (Sharon); David W. Brill (Carla) both of Wardensville, WV; seven grandchildren: Lela, Gabriel, Joanna, Caleb, Nathan, Tyler & Ryan Brill; seven great-grandchildren and special nephews: Jody and Duane Orndorff. Daniel Leslie Morgan Payne, 86, of Wardensville, WV, died on Friday, September 8, 2023, at his home. Morgan was born on October 12, 1936, in Wardensville, WV, the son of the late Daniel L. and Catherine Henderson Payne. Morgan was a veteran in the United States Army serving in the Korean War, worked for 43 years as a mail carrier in Wardensville, and 25 years at ABEX in Winchester, VA. He loved cars with shiny wheels and was particular about the cleanliness of his vehicles. He was a collector of model cars, and was a NASCAR fan especially Dale Earnhardt, Sr. , and Jimmy Johnson. Morgan enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time with his family. Morgan married Carol Lockhart on December 24, 1988, in Winchester, VA. Charles Dwight Lee, 80, of Delray, WV, passed away on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family and under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle. Dwight was born on May 5, 1943 in Delray, WV, the son of the late Melvin E. and Fannie B. Rudy Lee. His love of working began at a very young age when he accompanied his father up on the mountain to cut timber. Later, he worked for Southern States for 19 1/2 years, retired from Lupton Logging and Pulpwood in 2008. He was a man of many talents. He enjoyed pitching horseshoes, watching WVU basketball, betting the horses, and scratching lottery tickets. He leaves behind in the hearts of his children and grandchildren, his love of baseball and the New York Yankees. Dwight married Marsha Lupton Lee on October 8, 1965, in Cumberland, MD. Surviving with his wife of nearly 58 years are his four children: Jimmy Lee (Michele), Lori Houchens (Joe), Leslie Tingler, and Lindsay Miller (Mike); nine grandchildren: Brittany Griffith, Kevin Lee, Michael, Ryan, Chris and Jeff Houchens, Jared Tingler, and Kayla and Kerra Miller; three great grandchildren: Rhylee & Lincoln Griffith and Aryella Houchens; three sisters: Ruby Hall, Libby & Polly Lee and several nieces & nephews.
