As the skies darkened, so did the realization that Dorothy Mae Barlow was going to meet her father. She had grown weary and was ready to leave her Earthly home. Dorothy knew that her time on her earth was ending, as she had reached the age of ninety-nine. She had no fear or regrets, for she had successfully fulfilled her mission on this earth. On December 1, 2023, God said, "COME HOME TO ME. " The home in Chamblissburg, Virginia where she was born to the late George Wright and Lucy Wright, would...Read More

Cathy Walker

Jun 29, 1950 - Feb 14, 2024

location-icon

Hampton, VA

Cathy Walker, 73, a resident of Hampton, Virginia, passed away on February 14, 2024. Her loss was completely unexpected, and deeply felt by her family and countless friends. Originally from Mayfield, NY, Cathy was the second of three children born to Jim and Eva Walker (predeceased) on June 29, 1950. Her younger brother, Paul, died at a young age. Cathy is survived by her brother Jim and his wife, Sandy and their four sons, Jim (Mary), Tim (Carol), Rick (Amy), and Brian (Chris), and numerous great nieces and nephews. Cathy’s extended family includes her best friend, Marilyn Cooney, and her husband, Frank, and their sons, Frank (Kelly), Charles (Debbie), and Patrick. She was also Godmother to Frank and Kelly’s two boys, Jack and Jason, as well as to Bryan Nadeau II, son of Bryan and Angela Nadeau. Wearing numerous hats during her professional life, Cathy worked as a manager for We Walker’s Campsite in her hometown in New York, and as the Culinary Manager for Water Country USA Williamsburg. However, she found her true passion in life when she studied nursing at Virginia Careers Institute. This eventually led to her becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in 2008 where she worked at Sentara CarePlex Hospital in Hampton, VA and then in the private office of Dr. Albert Francis. To say Cathy was happy to be a nurse is an understatement. She loved helping others and that was also evident in her various works for St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church in Newport News, VA. She had the best heart and laugh, and treated everyone with kindness. When not working or volunteering, Cathy loved to play golf, watch football, listen to music (she had great taste, Elvis and John Denver among her favorites), and read history books - especially biographies. Cathy also had a deep love for wolves. It wasn’t uncommon to see her wearing a t-shirt with a wolf emblazoned on the front. She also loved her pets and had many throughout her life. Dogs, cats or turtles, her house welcomed them all. But that’s just who Cathy was…she welcomed everyone. We will never forget her. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church Backdoor Ministry. Following the Funeral Mass at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 230 33rd Street, Newport News, VA, there will be a reception at the Coastal Fermentory brewery, 206 23rd St, Suite B Newport News from 2:30 - 4:30.To plant Memorial Trees in memory of Cathy Walker, please click here to visit our Sympathy Store.
