It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Charles, who departed from this
world on December 5, 2023. He left behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and
invaluable contributions that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew him.
Born on March 4, 1966, in Bristol, Tennessee, Charles graced the world with his
presence and embarked on a journey filled with compassion, determination, and an
unwavering spirit. He touched the lives of many through his remarkable passion for life,
family and friends. Charles graduated from Virginia High School and received two
bachelor's degrees one from Radford University and one from Strayer University.
Charles was an extraordinary individual, known for his unwavering love of the Dallas
Cowboys. He approached every challenge with resilience, inspiring those around him
to strive to be true to oneself and be kind to others.
Beyond his accomplishments, Charles will be fondly remembered for his contagious
laughter, genuine smile, and the way he effortlessly brought joy to every gathering. His
ability to connect with others on a deep level created lasting friendships and touched
countless lives.
In his family, Charles is preceded by his mother Margaret (Madison) Birdwell, father
William A Birdwell Sr. , and sister Georgia (Birdwell) Njagu. He leaves behind his sister
Teresa (Birdwell) McNeal, brother William A. Birdwell Jr. , (Dianne Jordan), and brother-
in-law Paul Njagu. He was a beloved Uncle to a host of nieces and nephews, great
nieces/ nephews, and his presence in the family will be deeply missed.
The loss of Charles, otherwise known as CC leaves an unfillable void in the lives of
those who had the privilege of knowing him. While his physical presence may no longer
be with us, his spirit and the memories he created will continue to be cherished.
A celebration of Charles' (CC's) life will be announced at a later date where friends and
family will gather to honor and commemorate the remarkable person he was.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the National Sickle Cell
Foundation in honor of Charles' (CC's) memory.
CC may have departed this world, but his legacy of love, compassion, and inspiration
will live on forever in our hearts. May he rest in eternal peace.
