Diane Marie Pokusa, 77, of Lower Burrell passed away peacefully on February 19, 2024. She was born on May 13, 1946, in New Kensington to the late Anthony and Marie (Pelino) Acone. Diane was a member of Mt. St. Peter R.C. Church in New Kensington where she also was a member of the choir and a frequent volunteer at the annual Festa and Lenten Fish Fry. Diane was a secretary for the Burrell School District for over 20+ years. After retiring, she enjoyed lounging in her pool, cooking Sunday dinners, and making Christmas cookies. She loved traveling and visiting her out-of-state children and attending various activities of her grandchildren. Most importantly, her family was her whole life. Diane is survived by her son Anthony (Lori) Pokusa, 4 daughters, Jodie Thomas, Tina Pokusa, Erica (Michael) Lalle, and Denise (Kirk) Rhoades, and 10 grandchildren; Cara and Samantha Pokusa, Trevor and Andrea Thomas, Brenden, Eric and Hannah Lalle, and Noah, Mia and Matthew Rhoades. Also surviving are her two sisters, Denise Acone and Arleen (Bernie) Buzzelli along with many nieces and nephews. Viewing will take place on Friday, February 23 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Giunta-Bertucci Funeral Home, 1509 5th Avenue, Arnold, JohnPaul Bertucci supervisor/owner. Wilma J. Moret

Wilma J. Moret, 92, of Lower Burrell, passed away on February 16, 2024. She was born on March 8, 1931 to the late Lawrence and Pauline (Cernenec) Kulik. Her husband, William Moret, also preceded her in death in 2021. Wilma was a member of St. Margaret Mary Church in Lower Burrell and was a volunteer for many years at various church functions. She was also a member of the Burrellton Women’s Club. Wilma was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her husband and family were her first priority. Her faith was also very important to her, and she had a special devotion to the Blessed Mother and St. Anthony. She had a special gift for elegant home holiday decorations and loved to shop for anything that would beautify the home. Wilma is survived by her sons William (Amy) Moret and Timothy (Shannon) Moret and her daughters Renee (John) Duffy and Nancy Giammaria. Wilma is also survived by seven grandchildren Michael (Jennifer) Duffy, Carly (Zachery) Wilfong, Lewie (Danielle) Giammaria, Joseph Giammaria, Elena Moret, Kyle Moret, and Alison Moret and three great-granddaughters Olivia and Emma Wilfong and Penelope Duffy. Wilma is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Besides her father, mother and husband, Wilma was preceded in death by her brothers Larry Kulik, Andrew Kulick and Clement Kulick and her sisters Stella Bednarosky, Mary Makara, Ann Pastrick and Marge Kulik and two grandsons Benjamin Moret and Dominic Moret. A Funeral Mass will take place on Wednesday, February 21 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Margaret Mary Church in Lower Burrell (everyone meet at the church) with burial to follow at Our Lady of Hope Cemetery in Tarentum. David J Florek Sr., 77 of Lower Burrell, passed away peacefully, Thursday, February 1, 2024, in his home. Born September 20, 1946, in New Kensington, he was the son of the late Peter and Pearl (Przemieniecki) Florek. Dave was a US Army Veteran, and he was based at the United States Military Academy, West Point, NY, while serving in the Vietnam Era. He was a car enthusiast, who enjoyed working in his garage as an auto body mechanic. Dave took pleasure in long drives in his Corvette with his dearly loved wife. He retired from the City of Lower Burrell as Supervisor of Parks and Recreation. Dave enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially trips to camp and Linn Run with family and friends. He loved his oldies, but goodies, particularly Elvis Presley music. Dave was a member of St. Mary of Czestochowa Church, New Kensington, the VFW Post 92 and American Legion Post 868, both in Lower Burrell, and The Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 533, New Kensington. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Patricia (Pawloski) Florek; a sister, Rebecca Key; brother, Dennis Florek; daughter, Lisa Smith; two sons, David Florek Jr. and Daniel (Jamie) Florek; 8 grandchildren, Dale, Kaitlin, Samantha, Brenden, Paul, Tabatha, Nicholas, and McKenna; 5 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Friends and family will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8:00 PM, on Sunday, February 4, 2024, in the Joseph J. Cardaro Funeral Home, 1125 Kenneth Ave., New Kensington, 724-337-3325. The VFW Post 92 will provide a service at 3:00 PM in the funeral home. Margaret Y. “Peggy” (Bonner) Kaufman, 87, of Washington Township, passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 in Logan Place Assisted Living- Lower Burrell.Born March 15, 1936 in Aladdin (Gilpin Township), PA, she was a daughter of the late Charles A. Bonner & Helen M. (Snyder) Bonner.Peggy was a graduate of Vandergrift High School, and worked as a baker and cafeteria worker at Kiski Area Senior High School for 25 years, retiring in 1998.She was a former member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed bird watching, gardening, and watching the Hallmark channel.In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Donald A. “Don” Kaufman, who passed away on August 23, 2019; a daughter, Kathy Kaufman; and her brothers, Lester “Les” Bonner, Charles S. Eva (Ferazzi) Schachte, 93, of Lower Burrell went to be with the Lord on Friday January 26, 2024. She was born in Greensburg to the late Angelo and Giussepina Ferazzi. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband Richard D. Schachte, sisters Louisa Ferazzi, May Ferazzi, Iolanda Ferazzi, Rose (Louis) Tarasky and Virgina (Arthur) Scalzitti; brothers, Peter Ferazzi and Paul (Florence) Ferazzi; daughter-in-law Kathleen Schachte. Eva was a Registered Nurse for over 40 years, retiring from Citizens General Hospital in New Kensington. She was a long-time member of St. Margaret Mary Church. She quietly supported many organizations and families in need that became part of her life. Eva adored and enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren. You would remember Eva by receiving a little white cross and her message that “Jesus died on the cross for you, he rose again from the dead and if you invite him into your heart you will live with him forever.” Upon leaving her company she would tell you “I don’t like you….I Love You! She is survived by her four sons, Richard (Donna) Schachte of New Kensington, Aaron (Christine) Schachte of Derry, Charles (Tanya) Schachte of Allegheny Twp. and Alban Schachte of Montgomery, Alabama; her adored grandchildren Amanda Schachte, Sarah (Benjamin) Moore, Elizabeth Schachte, Matthew Schachte, Dustin Schachte, Vanessa (Michael) Blake, Charles Schachte, II, Haylie Schachte, Samuel Schachte, Jacob Schachte, Adam Schachte and Joshua Schachte; great grandchildren, Jackson and Parker Moore, Angelo and Christina Blake; her sister-in-law Nancy Ferazzi and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Mildred “Mid” Coulson, 89, of Lower Burrell passed away on Friday January 26, 2024, at her home with her family at her side. She was born in New Kensington, a daughter of the late Calvin and Emma Orris. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Calvin, Frank & Richard Orris, sisters Frances Mitchell and Evelyn Lasher. Mildred enjoyed camping in her motor home, music and shopping. Mildred was a wonderful mother who was a great support to her husband and daughters. Mid is survived by her husband of 69 years, John W. Coulson of Lower Burrell; her daughters Barbara (Charles) Paine of Lower Burrell and Chris (Mark) Truitt of Leechburg; her grandchildren Victoria Paine, Zachary Paine, Megan Keener and Brenton Truitt; and her great grandson Tucker Truitt. Virginia Louise Morrow, 91, of West Deer, Pennsylvania, passed away at Belair Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Lower Burrell, Pennsylvania on Friday January 19, 2024. Virginia Louise was born in Kaylor, Bradys Bend Township, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania on November 18, 1932. She was the daughter of Ferdinand “Fred” and Fabina Grazioli Serafine. She was a graduate of Karns City High School in Karns City, PA. Virginia was a longtime active member of Our Lady of the Lakes, St. Victors Parish, Gibsonia, PA. She retired from North Pittsburgh Telephone Company September 1993. She is survived by two daughters Mary (Don) McClain of Butler and Jennifer Morrow of West Deer, PA. A grandson, Shane Charles of North Carolina. And a sister, Wilma (Ken) Texter of Karns City; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Morrow, four brothers Fred, Victor, Andrew and David; five sisters, Esther, Ella, Edna, Thelma and Lena. Virginia always had a fun, whitty personality that made everyone love her. The staff at Belair commented how much they enjoyed her time there and how much she will be missed. The family would like to thank Belair Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center and Amedis Hospice of Greater Pittsburgh for taking such good care of her. The viewing is private. Laura Grace (Verner) Such

Laura Grace (Verner) Such, aged 103 years and 7 months, of Lower Burrell, Pennsylvania, went to meet her maker while at her home surrounded by close family, Saturday, 13 January 2024. Laura was born 25 May 1920 at Valley Heights and was a long-time resident of Westmoreland County. She grew up on her parents’ farm on Turkey Ridge where her primary chore was helping her father manage the plow horses, perhaps that is where she developed her long gait. For the last 68 years Laura resided in Lower Burrell along with her husband, John E. (aka Ed or Red) Such who preceded her in death in 2005. Both were members of Puckety Presbyterian Church where Laura served as Deacon and Elder and a founding and sustaining member of Meals on Wheels. During WWII she was employed by Alcoa Aluminum where she supported the war effort riveting canisters for military supplies. In later years, Laura served in Burrell High School cafeteria all the while performing the duties of home maker, wife, and mother. Laura was the eighth in a line of fourteen (14) siblings, the children of John Taylor Verner and Vallie Lena (McGinnis) Verner, all of whom preceded her in passing. Her siblings were: sisters Gladys Weston, Frances McNeal, Ruth McNutt, Sarah Bolt, Lois Verner, Velma (Jane) Diven, and Doris Spinks; brothers George, Robert, Gilbert (Gib), Reed (Barney), Zenith, and Walter. Surviving Laura are: daughters Rose L. Harkey and husband Jamie Geltz of Sanford FL, and Patricia A. Koessler of Lower Burrell PA; sons John E. Such Jr. and wife Sally (Schumann) of Surprise AZ, and James H. Such and wife Christel (Landry) of The Colony TX. Her grandchildren number eleven (11), great-grandchildren number twenty-three (23), and lastly, great-great grandchildren number ten (10). She also has numerous nieces and nephews located throughout the country. Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on THURSDAY, 18 January 2024 at the Frank F. Gigler Funeral Home, Inc., Robert P. Karish, Supervisor, 2877 Leechburg Rd. Lower Burrell where the funeral service will be held on FRIDAY at 11 a.m. with Pastor Brian Kilbert officiating.
