Doris Carnes Obituary

Mrs. Doris Carnes, 94, a longtime residence of Cave Spring, peacefully passed away Sunday afternoon, April 23, 2023 with her daughter Ginger by her side. The former Doris Louise Brannon, Mrs. Carnes was born in Cave Spring February 24, 1929, daughter of the late Carter Simmons Brannon and the late Myrtle Victoria Hodges Brannon. She was active in Cave Spring through the years and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cave Spring where she taught the Young Adults Sunday School Class and was also a teacher with the kindergarten of the church. Her unwavering faith in her heavenly father was how she lived. Mrs. Carnes was also associated with some of the shops in Cave Spring. Mrs. Carnes was married to LCDR James Russell Carnes December 27, 1952, and was preceded in death by him February 12, 2006. Besides her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Clarence Brannon in November of 2001. Survivors include her devoted daughter, Mrs. Ginger Anthony and her husband Tim of Cave Spring, and her daughter Mrs. Kristen Burnett of Florida. Her special grand-daughter Caroline Elizabeth Anthony, her grandson Christopher Brannon Brooks, several nieces, nephews and friends, and her two grand-dogs Finley and River also survive. Funeral services for Mrs. Carnes will be held Tuesday morning, April 25, 2023 at 11:00 A. M. at the graveside of the Cave Spring Cemetery with Rev. Stanford DeBerry officiating.
