Helen Carmac Lawson, 94, of Ramseur, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 5, 2024 at her residence. Visitation will take place from 1:00 until 1:45 PM on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Parks Crossroads Christian Church, followed by a Funeral Service at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Officiating, Rev. Randy Kelley. Helen was born May 30, 1929, the daughter of James and Fannie Carmac. "The prettiest girl at Ramseur High School" married her beloved Grady in 1948. From 1952 until 1956, they lived in Montana and Wiesbaden, Germany while Grady was serving in the Air Force. After returning home to Ramseur, she was the bookkeeper at Ramseur Auto Parts Store for over 40 years. Helen was a long-time active member of Parks Crossroads Christian Church. Her greatest joys came from spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Lawson, her parents, sisters, Madge Craven and Ada Carmac, as well as her brothers, James, Kermit, Oris, Cletus, Harold, and Condon Carmac. Survivors: daughter, Gina Lawson Young and husband, Tom, of Raleigh, son, Mike Lawson and wife, Amy, of Lexington, grandchildren, Brad Young and wife, Casey, Kelly Young, Ali Fine and husband, Cary, Bobby Lawson, Kylee and Carson Yates, great-grandchildren, Truitt Young, Clara Young, Charlie Fine, sister, Martitia C. Cox, of Asheboro, brother, Buck Carmac and wife, Karolyn, of Ramseur. Evelyn Sue Jones Sheffield, 83, of Ramseur, passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at the Randolph Hospital. Evelyn was born in Jackson County on October 4, 1940 to James Leonard Jones, Sr. and Ethel FoxJones. Her first job was a telephone operator. While her husband was in the Navy, she was both Mom and Dad. They moved back to Sylva in 1975. She later owned and operated a restaurant with her husband. Evelyn enjoyed working in her flowers and collecting knick-knacks. She was a good Christian woman who loved the Lord and her family. Evelyn always had a positive outlook, no matter the circumstances. When asked what her biggest accomplishment was, she replied, "My children."In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Christine Swanson, Annie Nell Crowe, Helen Wooten, and Geneva Humphrey; brothers, James Leonard Jones, Jr., Alex Jones, Grover Jones and Cleasure Jones.She is survived by her husband, James Clark Sheffield, Sr., of the home; children, James Clark Sheffield, Jr., of Marietta GA and Anesa Brooks and husband, Darin, of Bennett; grandson Wyatt James Brooks, of Bennett; sisters, Ruby Cabe, of Franklin, NC, Mildred Connor of Brevard, NC and Bessie Cogdill and husband, Doyle, of Sylva, NC; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends.The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at Appalachian Funeral Services, in Sylva, NC, with Rev. Jeffrey Andrew Grevenstuk, age 66, of Ramsuer, N. C. died peacefully in his sleep on November 30, 2023. Jeff was born August 13, 1957 in DeMotte, Indiana to Gerrit and Kathryn Grevenstuk. He was the youngest of five children. Jeff attended grade schools in DeMotte and Kankakee Valley MS and HS. He graduated from Potterville High School in Michigan. Jeff was an adventurer. As a youngster he loved to wander the fields of Jasper County camping out in the neighbors' fields. He traveled to the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa, went to Florida for college and eventually settled in North Carolina. In N. C. he built the log home where he and the love of his life, Kim(berly) raised two sons. He was a great husband and an amazing dad. He had a passion for computers, building his first one in the 1990s. He also enjoyed supporting and encouraging his two sons through Boy Scouts, wrestling and all other endeavors. If anyone asks, "he's the man". He will be remembered as a kind and loving soul. He'll also be remembered for Christmas gifts from Swiss Colony, his endless collection of paperback novels, and his love of dogs (Trouble, Sweetie, Rynn, Bubba and Lily). He was predeceased by his parents, sister, Melodie Cross, nephew, Keith Cross, in-laws, Lola and Ralph Moore, and sister-in-law Estella. Family was his main focus and Kim was his beloved bride. His sons Erik (Jillian) and Gerrit (Jenny) were his pride and joy. He is survived by his sister Elaine (Rick) Ross. His brothers, David (Pat) Grevenstuk, George (Juel) Grevenstuk and brother-in-law Cliff Cross, brother-in-law Gordon (Elaine) Moore, sister-in-law Casey Swingle and many beloved nieces and nephews. The family offers a special thanks to the staff at Randolph Hospice House for their care of Jeff and the entire family. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the spring.
