GOUVERNEUR- Donna L. Tupper, age 71, of Gouverneur, passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburg. There will be calling hours for Donna on Sunday, September 17, 2023 from 2:00-3:00 p. m. at French Funeral Home in Gouverneur. Her funeral service will immediately follow at 3:00 p. m. with Pastor Howard Maxson officiating. Burial will follow at Beech Plains Cemetery. Condolences may be shared online at www. frenchfuneralhomes. com. Donna was born on October 3, 1951 in Ogdensburg, NY to the late Grant and Thelma (Halladay) O'Donnell. She graduated from Gouverneur Central School in 1970. On July 1, 1972 she married Bernard "Ike" Tupper. Ike passed away on December 19, 2002. Donna was a homemaker and enjoyed taking care of her family. She enjoyed gardening, baking, canning and just being with her family and grandchildren. Surviving are her three children, Tracy Tupper, Tina and Daniel Mullin and William "Bill" Tupper; her companion, Joel McCune; three siblings, her twin sister Dawn Thomas, Debbie Tupper and Danny O'Donnell; ten grandchildren, Chandler Young, Cailey Roberts, Connor Robers, Teyanna Cunningham, Malayna Clawson, Levi Tupper, Samantha Campanero, Daniel Mullin, Tyler Tupper and Trayton Tupper; thirteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Donna is predeceased by her husband, Bernard "Ike" Tupper, her parents and five siblings, Linda Tupper, Grant O'Donnell, David O'Donnell, Wanda O'Donnell and Peggy O'Donnell.

Susan Godin

Age - 70

GODIN, Susan Carol "Sue" - On November 22, 2023, I lost the love of my life. We met when she was in grade 9 and I in grade 10, we went from being high school sweethearts, to being a young married couple, to being parents and grandparents. Sue left school in grade 10 to follow her dream of becoming a nurse. She attended St Vincent Nursing School in Ottawa where she successfully graduated. Prior to getting married Sue worked as a nurse at the Pembroke General Hospital. Sue eventually had to put her nursing career on hold to follow me in my career and to start a family. Sue blessed me with two lovely children, Christopher (Mary Ann) and Christine (Adam Bemrose). Sue was a dreamer, Sue felt that if she could dream it, then she could do it. She dreamed about making her own clothes and became a self-taught seamstress. When the cabbage patch doll craze hit, Sue figured she would make her own unique cabbage patch doll clothes. She was so good at it that eventually she set up at local craft fairs where she would sell out within hours. Her greatest joy was that every year Sue would make and design new Christmas dresses for her granddaughters. It was a tradition that she kept up for many years. Sue loved to dance, one night she dreamt of being a belly dancer, so the next day she signed up for belly dancing lessons, she also made all her own belly dancing outfits. When the line dancing craze hit, she of course registered both of us for line dancing lessons. Then she enrolled us both for Salsa dance lessons. I was OK with line dancing, but not so much with Salsa. Once Sue dreamt of playing ball, a sport that she had never played. So, she joined the Glen Cairn Ladies Ball League, and went from player to team captain to eventually president of the league. She enjoyed all the friendships she made playing ball, many of them lifelong. Sue dreamt that she could paint and before you know it, she was painting everything from canvases to murals. Our cottage on Allumettes Island would become Sue's "happy place", for many years we would spend nearly every weekend and all our summer holidays there. It was a great place to raise our children and grandchildren and entertain friends. In 2013 Sue was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, Uveal Melanoma. The only place that treated this form of cancer was at the Princess Margaret Hospital. After the initial treatments and for five successive years we would make many trips to PMH for treatment and follow up. After 5 years, she was given all clear signal. Unfortunately, in 2021 cancer reared its ugly head again, as the cancer had now shown up as terminal Stage 4 on her liver. Because of the location of the tumor, many of the normal cancer procedures were not available to her. At the end of 2021 we were advised that Sue qualified for a new clinical trial drug that was being offered at PMH. In January 2022, Sue started treatment, and for over a year we would make bi-weekly, then monthly trips to Toronto for the treatment and follow up. For the most part it kept the cancer in check for a year, until it didn't. The fact that Sue had cancer didn't slow her down, she met this terrible disease head on, with such strength and positivity. Sue leaves behind her mom Dorothy (late Earl Bunke), her sisters, whom she loved so very much, Bettyanne (Steve Brown) and Barbara (Brian Lepine), She will now be reunited with her brothers Billy (Cynthia Bunke) and Bobby. She will be greatly missed by her mother-in-law Lorraine Godin (late Francis), and the rest of her in laws and outlaws Denise (Lyle Green), Nicole (Chris McNamara), Sue (Roger Skerkowski), Randy Godin (Catherine) and David Godin (Christine). She will be missed by her many nephews, nieces and friends, and her condo ladies. Sue's greatest joy in life were her grandchildren Maddison, Sidney, Jagger and Brayah. She loved them so much and will miss them dearly and will be watching over them as they progress through life and follow their dreams. I am so blessed that she entered my life, and every time I look at my children and grandchildren, I will see a piece of her. We would like to express our sincere thanks and gratitude to the clinical trial team at Princess Margaret and Dr. Song at the Ottawa Cancer Centre. Sue and I would like to give a special thanks to our family and palliative care doctor, Dr. Lynsay Lane, for her compassion and always making herself available, with home visits and follow up calls. A big shout out to Community Health Services and in particular nurses Angela and Shelby ensuring that Susan's final days were pain free. Respecting Sue's wishes, cremation has taken place. Phyllis Schwanz (nee Radtke) of Petawawa, loving wife of the late Elmer Schwanz. Adored mother of Merv (Linda), Kitchener; Gary (Margo), Pembroke; Jane Wegner (Kevin), Petawawa, Norine Giroux (David), Pembroke; and the late Randy Schwantz. Cherished grandmother of Adam, Leah, Katie, Evan (Kerrie), Erika (Phil), Corey (Cheryl), Justin, Jarrett, Maddi, Danielle, Morgan & Tori. Cherished great-grandmother of Caleb, Carson, Grayson & Julian. Daughter of the late Paul and Augusta Radtke (nee Kathen); and dear sister of Mona Fraser (late Ron). Predeceased by Marion Jackson (late Floyd), Sylvia Giroux (late Emile), Earl & Vera Radtke. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Phyllis was a fun, loving, kind and compassionate woman with a thirst for life. Phyllis and Elmer were married 57 years, spending many weekends dancing at the Polish Alliance Hall, many days surrounded by loving friends, playing cards, and traveling. After building their cottage in Westmeath, they enjoyed spending each summer there alongside family and caring neighbours. After retirement, they enjoyed winters in Florida surrounded by wonderful friends, enjoying crafts and teaching others to quilt. Open to any adventure, Phyllis enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, quilting, quilling, dancing, baking, gardening and even her occasional beer with Charlie Pride on in the background. As someone who was always open to something new, Phyllis even took up darts in her 90s. She was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Petawawa, and always volunteered and gave back to the community where she could. We would like to thank the staff and friends at Miramichi Lodge who cared for her with compassion and kindness during her final years of life.
