December 2, 2023
Eric S. McClain, age 61, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away on December 1, 2023 after a brief battle with cancer. He was born on May 1, 1962, in Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania, to Herb and Kaye McClain.
Eric was an ardent sports fan and shared his passion with his son, Zach. They enthusiastically cheered on the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates, the University of Toledo Rockets, and the Central Catholic Fighting Irish. Eric was also a dedicated golfer and a member of the "Thursday Night League" for over 30 years, as well as the August Pull Tabbers group. He had a kind and outgoing personality, always greeting others with a warm smile, a hearty laugh, and a genuine interest in their stories. Eric cherished his friendships, both from his Pittsburgh roots and those he made in Toledo, especially the group fondly referred to as "Eric's Friends. "
In addition to his parents, Eric is survived by his loving wife, Lynnette, whom he married on October 22, 1988, and their son, Zach, both of Toledo, Ohio. He is also survived by his brothers, Mark (Joni) of Charleroi, PA, and Curt (Carma) of Perryopolis, PA, his sister Karen of York, PA, his niece Jessica (Walter) Harman and their children, Allison and Isaac, of Lebanon, PA. Eric was always considered another brother by his in-laws David and Mary Ellen Recker, Sandy Stahan, Gina Bunker, Dennis and Shelley Jacobs, and Fred Russell. He was a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews. Eric attended Belle Vernon Area High School, graduating in the Class of 1980, and went on to complete his higher education at Slippery Rock University in 1984.
Eric moved to Toledo, Ohio in 1986. In 1993 he began his career in direct sales with Superior Uniform Sales, Inc. This is when his legendary and distinguished 30-year career with Public Safety officers began.
Originally hired as Store Manager, he later moved into outside sales and was promoted to Director of Sales for Public Safety Uniforms. Eric knew every Police Officer, Deputy Sheriff, and Firefighter in Northwestern Ohio and Southeastern Michigan by first name. Whenever our Public Safety officers spoke about their uniforms, they always included comments about their experience with "Eric at Superior. " Eric took pride in outfitting every officer from head to toe, beginning with their first days as new recruits. He provided the utmost in personal service. These individual fittings paved the way for lasting friendships with Law Enforcement Officers, Firefighters, and countless other people within Superior's family of customers. Manufacturer representatives, too, always sought out Eric on their visits to Superior and formed the same bond with him. Eric had a sign above his desk that read: "If you love what you do, you'll never work another day in your life!" Lynn and Zach wish to express their gratitude to their families and friends for the loving support they have received and are also especially thankful to the staff of Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their dedication and care for Eric.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects on Friday, December 8th from 2-8 p. m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 East Alexis Road, Toledo, Ohio 43612 with a vigil service at 7 p. m.
