The song "Supper Time" has a line that says "She heard the call for supper time in heaven and now I know she is waiting for us there." Naomi Jewel Dodson responded to that call February 25, 2024. She was born the daughter of Luis Van Lawson and Fleeta Lawsor November 19, 1930 in Yale, Oklahoma. She had two sisters and three brothers and at the age of six the family of 8 moved from the dust bowl days to Cutler, California. The family was farm laborers and carpenters. Mom graduated from Orosi High School and later attended Humbolt University and then received a B/A degree and teaching credential from Fresno State University. Jewel was a giver; she and Artie traveled all the states, several times with their grandchildren. She loved watching TV game shows, Giants baseball, 49er football and Christian worship programs. She will be greatly missed by her loving husband, Artie and family. We know she is in the loving, faithful arms of Jesus. We do not grieve as those who have no hope but look forward to joining her soon. She married Eddie Hofer June 21, 1948 and had two children, Gary and Judy Hofer. She taught in Farmersville, Elbow Creek, and Liberty elementary schools in the Visalia area. She was a member of Fortuna 1st Assembly of God and then Visalia 1st Assembly of God where she taught Sunday School and hosted many youth parties. Delfina Luna Chavez

Apr 23, 1945 - Feb 12, 2024

location-icon

Visalia, CA

"Delfina Luna Chavez , 78 passed away on February 12, 2024 in Visalia California. She was the wife of Cornelio Chavez whom she spent just over 63 1/2 years of marriage with. Cornelio recently passed away earlier this month on February 1, 2024. It must have been in His plan that they be reunited so quickly. She was born on 4-23-45 in Mathis, Texas to Antonio and Elvira Luna. She is survived by their 7 children, son Eliseo Chavez (wife Susanne), daughter Elizabeth Muniz, daughter Naomi (Mimi) Chavez Haas (husband Ron), Cornelio Chavez Jr. (wife Rosa) , daughter Delfina Jahnigen, son Danny Chavez (wife Tina), and youngest daughter Nora Samaduroff (husband Nik) , 16 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Delfina was a very hard worker and always helped to provide for her family. She worked in cotton fields, grape vineyards, a sewing factory, nursery, and packing houses. She spent many years working for Sunkist, which is where she retired from . She was very talented and crafty. She knew how and taught her daughters to cook, sew, garden and crochet. Delfina once bought a do-it-yourself book on upholstery and did some great re-upholstery jobs. She loved to quilt and crochet and was constantly working on a project to gift to someone. Many relatives have cherished homemade items that she took the time to make for them. She liked to paint. Whether it was the living room walls , a park bench, or tire planter , something always needed a fresh coat of paint. Delfina was very generous, strong, fiesty and loved being in charge. Maybe that's why she needed to go find Pop. She will be missed. Rest in peace until we see you both again. Special thanks to Ruth's Open Arms House in Visalia California, where she spent from 2-1-24 to 2-12-24. The staff was amazing and made her last days as peaceful as possible. That was such a blessing. Celebration of life to be announced at a later time. Services have been entrusted to Salser & Dillard Funeral Chapel.
