Peggy Anneka Smittenaar, age 69 of Knoxville, TN passed away on November 29, 2023. She was born to Gerardous and Jantina Smittenaar on July 23, 1954, in The Hague, Netherlands. She retired from Montgomery County MD Schools as a special education teacher. Along with her work in education she received multiple awards for her poetry. Her hobbies included but were not limited to; sewing, crafting, painting, building miniature dioramas, metal art figures and models. She is preceded in death by her parents, Gerardous and Jantina Smittenaar. She leaves behind and is survived by her daughters, Kristi and Katrina; sons, Charles, Robert, Matthew and Michael; brothers, Perry, Charles and Andrew; sister, Tammy. The family would like to offer their thanks to the Pleasant Ridge Ward Relief Society of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for their help, compassion and love. The family will gather on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 from 11:00am - 12:30 for a viewing at the LDS Chapel (6024 Grove Rd Knoxville, TN 37918) A funeral service will start at 1:00pm. The graveside service will follow at 3:00pm at Greenwood Cemetery (3500 Tazewell Pike, Knoxville, TN 37918). Isaac "Ike" Leondis Rains, 88, of Knoxville, TN and Apollo Beach, FL went to be with our Lord on November 30th, 2023, peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. Ike was born and raised in the Sequatchie Valley in Southeast Tennessee and graduated from Bledsoe County High School in Pikeville, TN. He attended and graduated from Alabama Christian College in Montgomery, AL in 1957. After college he refined his skills as a carpenter working with his father. Being called to higher service, he volunteered to serve our great Nation in the U. S. Airforce where he served for over seven years in various overseas and stateside assignments within Civil Engineering. His favorite posting being on the island of Guam. After his military service he spent years as a truck driver traveling coast to coast and seeing the 48 contiguous states as well as seven Canadian provinces (Military travel took him to Hawaii and personal travel took him to Alaska thus fulfilling a goal of seeing all 50 states). His main route was from Miami, FL to Seattle, WA which allowed him to see and visit many unique places making friends along the way. After Ike's over the road driving time, he moved his family to Chattanooga, TN where he spent several years working for Kraft Foods and visiting family in the "valley. " After retiring from Kraft Foods, he moved to Knoxville, TN. In Knoxville he was an active member of VFW Post 1733 and made many a great friend there. Not one to just sit around he spent over 20 years working in maintenance for a condo complex before finally "being fired" after 85 years. He spent the remaining years of his life enjoying time with family and soaking up the Florida sunshine poolside. He loved spending time with friends and family especially to watch Tennessee Vols Football or a NASCAR race. Anyone who knew Ike knew he loved to spend time sharing stories or discussing the news of the day. Always willing to help a friend or family member he will be forever remembered as one to step forward lending a helping hand. Whether to help with carpentry work or to even organize an annual trip to the horse track to raise money for the VFW Post he never faltered. His easy-going attitude and strong work ethic set him apart from many. Ike was a great son, brother, husband, father, Papaw, and friend to many. He is dearly missed but not forgotten. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Maude Rains; sisters, Willie Jo Rains and Katherine Smith; brothers, Amos, Robert L. , Charles, Joe Rains, and wives Elizabeth "Libby" Rains & Violet "Dolly" Rains. Ike loved his family and especially his grandchildren and children. Left to cherish his memory are son, Patrick (Molly) Rizzi of Apollo Beach, FL, daughter, Stacy (Glenn) Roark of Dallas, GA, granddaughters Rachel Rizzi of Apollo Beach, FL, Carole Rizzi of Bradenton, FL, and Vanessa Roark of Dallas, GA, grandson, Vance Roark of Carrollton, GA, his brother James (June) Rains of Chattanooga, TN, special friend Jerry Crowder of Knoxville, TN and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and a host of friends. " -Oscar Wilde. Diane Frances Richards of Greenback, TN, 76 died on November 26, 2023, after an extended illness. At her request no service will be held. Diane was born July 21, 1947, in Omaha, Nebraska to Charles Roy and Edith Hoffmann Richards. She is survived by her Brother James Charles Richards of Rio Rancho, NM, sister Terri Richards Campbell and brother-in-Law Rupert Coleman Campbell Jr. of Huntsville, AL. Diane was a Navy Veteran graduating from the Naval Hospital Corps School serving as an Operating Room Technician. After leaving the Navy she achieved a Bachelor of Nursing Degree from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. She pursued her career as a Registered Nurse in Huntsville and later in Knoxville. Her love of dogs led her to a career change by opening a successful dog training facility in Knoxville, "Diane’s Canine School of Charm. " After retiring from her dog business, she lived out her life on her peaceful hilltop gardening in the company of her animals and nature. Condolences can be sent to: Terri R. JoAnn Denton, 88, of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2023. Born on September 29, 1935, in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, she was an avid reader, a skilled painter, and an excellent cook. She also loved to crochet, and she created many beautiful afghans. She was baptized into Christ in 1957. On December 1, 1957, she married Jerry Denton in Marion, Ohio in the presence of their loved ones. She lived with her family in Fort Wayne, Indiana for many years, where she raised her three daughters. In June of 1979, she moved to Knoxville, Tennessee with her family, where she lived the rest of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Goldie, as well as her siblings, Patricia "Patty," Johnny, Clarence Ray "Curly," and Shirley. She is survived by: her husband of 66 years, Jerry; her children, Michelle and her husband Niles, Jonna, and Christina and her husband Stephen; her grandchildren, Honor, Elizabeth and her husband Kendall, Joshua and his wife Holly, Brady, and Emily; and her great-grandson, Levi. The family would like to extend their gratitude to all of those friends and caregivers who supported her, including those special people who were as dear as her own children. Nancy Copenhaver Stinnette, 96, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2023. Preceded in death by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. M. M. Copenhaver; beloved husband, John C. Stinnette; and sister, Virginia C. Wilson. She was a life-long Knoxville resident and loved being active. Being a sixty-year member of Beaver Brook Country Club, she enjoyed bingo, bridge, and many other social events. During her years at Beaver Brook, she proudly became the first female elected to the Board of Directors, serving four terms. She found her real passion in life in politics. A long-time poll worker and officer for Knox County Election Commission and charter member of the Northwest Democrat Club. She worked tirelessly for local and state candidates including former Governor, Phil Bredesen. Those left behind to carry on her legacy are her devoted son, John M. Stinnette and daughter-inlaw, Debbie Stinnette; grandsons, Blake Stinnette (Leigh) of Franklin, TN, and Chase Stinnette (Caitlin); great grandchildren, Ava, Hadley, Ansley, Banks, and Finley; cousin and dear friend, Judy C. Greene; nephew, Charles David Wilson. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Windsor Ridge Assisted Living, UT Hospice, and Chaplain Phil Groos.
