NORFOLK - Donald E. Wells, 76, of Marsh Road, passed away early Sunday morning, September 10, 2023 at his home after a brief illness. Don was born in Moira, New York on November 15, 1946, the son of Edwin and Anna (Starks) Wells. He attended Parishville-Hopkinton Central School before entering the US Army on December 14, 1965, serving his country until his honorable discharge on December 13, 1967. On December 11, 2009, he married Debra Brown in Massena. Don was self-employed truck driver, who greatly enjoyed traveling from coast to coast throughout his career. He was an avid NASCAR fan, following Dale Earnhardt and Tony Stewart, enjoyed watching Western movies especially John Wayne; and cherished the time with his family more importantly during the holidays. Don is survived his wife, Debbie; his son, Derrick (Amie) Kellison of Brasher; his stepchildren, Stephanie Gebo and her fiance, Brandon Wheeler of Massena, McKinzey Gebo and her companion, Jason Bullock of Massena, and Cayla Rubacha of Massena; his granddaughter, Marlene Kellison; his step-grandchildren, Nicholas and Dmitri Rubacha, Mazzy McWilliams, Kiara Mossow, and Everleigh Bullock; his brothers, Harry Wells, Paul (Bev) Wells, Lynn (Cheryl Gemmill) Wells, and Gene Wells; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, David and Derick; and a sister, Lorraine Wells. Arrangements are under the care and guidance of the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, where friends may call Thursday 1-3:00 PM with military honors being presented at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may consider memorial contributions to be made in his memory to Hospice of St. Lawernce Valley or the American Cancer Society.

MASSENA: Bonita "Bonnie" Fenner, age 78, passed away unexpectedly early Sunday morning, December 3, 2023. The family has entrusted arrangements to the care and guidance of the Phillips Memorial Home located at 64 Andrews Street in Massena, NY. Calling hours for Bonnie will be held on Friday, December 8, 2023 at the Phillips Memorial Home, Massena from 4:00 p. m. until funeral services at 7:00 p. m. with Rev. Judy Van Kennen officiating. Bonnie was born to the late Bernard and Iva (Weller) Burgess in Potsdam, NY on August 13, 1945. Bonnie attended local schools graduating from Parishville-Hopkinton High School in 1964. She continued her education at Business School located in Syracuse, NY and soon began work at General Motors as an accountant. Bonnie was soon married to her future husband Maurice James "Wimpy" Fenner and they were married on June 25, 1966 at the Parishville First United Methodist Church. They began their family as Bonnie work for Generals Motors later for local businesses in the area and retired from Billy's BINGO Hall. Bonnie and her husband, Wimpy enjoyed their time together golfing and playing in Bowling Leagues throughout the years. She also enjoyed spending time at the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino, and knitting. Bonnie is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years and their two children; her son Matthew J. and his wife Julie Fenner of Sykesville, MD, and daughter, Tonya and husband Dan Conto of Massena, NY. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Penny Fenner and Schuyler Conto, along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Bonnie is predeceased by her brother Royal Burgess and sisters; Donna Field,Janet Rothberg and Lois Patton. AKWESASNE - Kaienes - Cecilia Mitchell, 86, a longtime resident of Kateri Tekakwitha Street, journeyed back to the Spirit World on Monday, December 4, 2023 at Tsiionkwanonhso:te on Cornwall Island. Kaienes was born in Akwesasne on September 30, 1937, the daughter of the late Michael "Tehonikonnratha" and Mary (Thompson) Mitchell "Wenniseriosta". She was raised in St. Regis, where she attended schools. Kaienes did many things in her life to mention a few would be baker, basket maker, herbalist, tea leaf reader, and coin collector. She belonged to many women's groups and medicine workings. She helped many people in the Mohawk language and the traditional ways. She will be missed by the many people that she has helped. Kaienes is survived by her sister, Minnie Garrow; her sons, Jim, John, and Joe Snyder; her grandchildren, Brogan, Bram, Chydon, Joe Jr. , and Andy; 3 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father, Michael Mitchell Tehonikonnratha"; her mother, Mary Thompson Mitchell Tebo "Wenniseriosta"; her siblings, Joseph Mitchell, Wilma Mitchell, Annabelle Oakes, Julia Richmond, and Bertha Oakes. Kainenes will be resting at the Akwesasne Homemaker on Tuesday (today) beginning at 6:00 PM until 9:30 AM Wednesday. PARISHVILLE - Douglas C. Spears, 71, a resident of Millyard Estates, passed away early Thursday morning, November 30, 2023 at the Massena Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Douglas was born October 25, 1952 in Potsdam, the son of the late Francis Roy and Beaulah (Frank) Spears. He attended schools in Potsdam and graduated from Norwood-Norfolk Central School. In 1975, he entered the United States Navy, proudly serving his country until his honorable discharge in 1979. On August 13, 1988, he married Cynthia A. Nugent at the First United Methodist Church. Doug was a cook for various restaurants including the Best Western in Canton, Massena Country Club, and Eben's Hearth in Potsdam. He had a lifelong love of hunting, fishing, and boating, and was a member of the Flying A Hunting Club. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his grandchildren and will fondly be remembered for always teasing someone. Doug is survived by his wife, Cynthia; his son, Jermey R. and Cassie Johnston of Potsdam; his grandchildren, Ian Michael and Parker Louise; his brother, Steven Spears of Potsdam; and sister, Barbara and Randy Sexton of Moss Point, Mississippi; and 4 nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Nancy Bush; his nephew, George Bush, Jr. ; and a niece, Rebecca Green. AKWESASNE - Belson Foster Jones, 73, passed away Saturday, November 25, 2023 at Massena Hospital after a lengthy illness. Belson was born on September 7, 1950 in Syracuse, the son of the late Foster and Pathenia (Gibson) Jones. He grew up in Onondaga where he graduated from Onondaga Central School. Following his graduation, he entered the United States Navy, serving his country as a corpsman until his honorable discharge. On April 8, 1988, he married Roxene Cook in Onondaga. Belson was a self-employed roofer before starting employment with the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe, where he was a carpenter and maintenance technician. He had previously worked for the Mohawk Indian Housing Corporation. He was a member of the Akwesasne Death Benefits and enjoyed doing carpentry work, fixing things, and spending time with his grandchildren. Belson is survived by his wife, Roxene; his chosen children, David R. Mitchell of Maniwaki , Quebec and Chance L. (Michelle) Tarbell of Brushton; his grandchildren, Cohen, G, Anna-Marie, and Sundance Mitchell and Chezlynn Tarbell; and many nieces and nephews. Massena, NY. Patrick C. Love age 73 passed away peacefully on Monday November 20, 2023 at Rochester General Hospital. Born in Ogdensburg, NY he was the son of the late Floyd and Mildred (Legault) Love. . We lost Pat unexpectedly, leaving behind an extended family and a life partner of 40 years. Patrick served in the Navy from 1969-1973 during the Vietnam War. He was a jack of all trades; having spent his life doing anything from making cassette tape cases at Michelex to moving furniture at Clopmans Furniture. In the end; the years of hard work made Pat enjoy the simple things in life; he loved the Madrid Park spending time walking his dogs and feeding the birds. To him nothing was better than a good western on TV; or taking a long ride with family to see family. A kind spirit; he helped take care of upwards of 20 stray cats who seemed to gravitate to him for they knew he was there to help. Humble, kind and caring; Pat you are loved and missed by all. Pat is survived by his life partner of 40 years Tracy Rupert of Madrid, two sons; Travis Love of WA and Donald love of WA. He was predeceased by a daughter Kristi Minh Love. He is survived by four brothers, Phillip Love; Edgar and Laura Love; Danny and Phyllis Love of Massena and Tommy and Wanda Love of Massena. Three sisters also survive. THERESA P. HIGGINSMASSENA- Theresa P. Higgins, 95, of 20 Kathleen Street, passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at the Massena Hospital. Theresa was born on October 30, 1928 in Mooers, NY, daughter of the late Richard and Mary Jane (Lucia) LaBier. She was a graduate of Mooers High School where she enjoyed playing basketball, dancing and she sang in her church choir. She married John B. Higgins at St. Ann Parish Catholic Church in Mooers, NY. John predeceased her on December 31, 2009. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church. Theresa was a former member of the Elks Lodge in Massena. She was a homemaker and a very active mother, sewing costumes for her children. She loved raising her children and helping with her sister's children as well, doing whatever she could to help with school projects and activities. She always worked hard to throw the big family reunion every Thanksgiving, and she made amazing pies. She was always there to help her neighbors and she was even known to make her own wine years ago. Theresa is survived by her daughter Nancy A. Higgins of Massena; her three grandchildren, Heather (Ray) Merolle and their children Micayla and Caroline; Hayley (Matt) Kairewich and their children Lilly, Abby and Morgan; and Christopher (Melissa) Faubert and their children Hudson and Briar; and her dear friend Kathy Belangier. Besides her parents Richard and Mary Jane, and her husband John, Theresa was also predeceased by a daughter Cheryl J. Higgins Faubert; and sisters Lila (Carl) Rich and Beulah (Earl) Costello. There will be no public calling hours or funeral service. A Graveside service will be held Saint Joseph's Cemetery in Mooers, NY on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 10:00 AM.
