Donald L. Walter, 74, of Watsontown, passed away on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at Watsontown Health & Rehabilitation Center. Born July 31, 1949 in Mifflinburg, he was the son of the late Pauline Walter. He was married to the former Diane Weller, and together they have celebrated 37 years of marriage. Donald worked at Straussner's Disposal and later retired from Waste Management. In addition to his wife, Diane, he is survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. There will be a graveside service in Highland Cemetery, New Columbia, held at the convenience of the family. Max Dean Hugar, 79, passed away on Friday, November 17, 2023, at home with his loving wife and family by his side. He was born July 3, 1944, at Philipsburg State General Hospital to the late Paul C. and Gladys (Lucas) Hugar. Max grew up in Keewaydin, PA where he attended the Keewaydin one room school. He was a 1963 graduate of Clearfield Area Senior High School. Upon graduation, he took several courses at The Pennsylvania State University in Agriculture. As a child, he delivered the daily newspaper to his community and was a member of the 4H Club where he won many awards for his beekeeping skills. It was here he would develop his love of gardening and farming along with working beside his beloved grandparents at their farm in Keewaydin. As a youth, he was an involved member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Karthaus, PA. Max operated a Dairy Diner in Williamsport, PA, for a period of time. It was here that he would meet a customer, who would become his future wife. On December 14, 1968, he married Loretta (Cupp) Hugar in Linden, Pennsylvania. Max was always a very hard worker, working on his farm alongside his wife and children while still working at Strohmann's where he retired from after 33 years. There was nothing that would not grow under Max's care whether it was vegetables or flowers. His talents were many as he was also a good cook and could easily preserve the huge harvests from his garden. He loved auctions and yard sales and finding the perfect treasure. Surviving in addition to his wife are five children, William Hugar and wife Cynthia of Montgomery, PA; Joseph Hugar of Montgomery, PA; Gerald Hugar and fiancee Melissa Bowersox of Watsontown, PA; Lorraine Hugar of Hughesville, PA; and Timothy Hugar and wife Danielle of Allenwood, PA. He also has 9 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and his dog Penny. In addition, he is survived by his sister, Nancy Hugar Verost and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother Thomas of Pittsburgh and a sister, Jeanette Hugar Larson of Hyde. Max lived a full life doing what he loved and he will be missed. Nancy J. Buck, 86, a longtime resident of Watsontown, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Sunday, November 5, 2023 after a long illness. Born May 15, 1937 in White Deer, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Ida Mae (Prowant) Bastian. On December 26, 1956 she married Norman E. "Bucky" Buck, who passed away on September 26, 2004. Nancy was a 1955 graduate of Milton High School. She and her husband were longtime owners of Norman E. Buck Plumbing and Heating as well as the Watson Inn, Lewisburg Hotel and the Mifflinburg Hotel. She was a charter and longtime member of the former Watsontown Lioness Club, now the Watsontown Centennial Lioness Lions Club. Nancy leaves behind three sons and their families, Norm Jr. and Karen Buck, Eddy Buck, and Neil "Rick" and Tracy Buck; two granddaughters and their families, Nicole Buck and Karen Wright, and Jennifer and Jordan Zankey; two great-granddaughters, Leonora Frances and Carmela Violet; a nephew who she raised like a fifth son, Marley Bastian and his wife, Shirley, and their family; numerous other family and friends, including Brittany Gowin (her caregiver) and her family who were close friends with Nancy the past five years; one brother, Marlin "Bud" Bastian and his wife, Joan; a sister-in-law, Marina Bastian; and a brother-in-law, Dennis Confer. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by one son, Nevin Buck; three brothers, George, Clarence and Raymond Bastian; and two sisters, Betty Krick and Penny Confer. Friends will be received on Monday, November 13 from 11 a. m. to 1 p. m. at Grenoble Funeral Home & Crematory, 308 Main St. Watsontown, where the funeral will be held at 1 p. m. with Rev. Paul Smith, officiating. Private burial will be held in Highland Cemetery, New Columbia. The family will provide the flowers and suggests contributions in Nancy's memory be made to Alzheimer and Dementia research and care.
