Donald Hardy Thomas (89), passed away September 8th, at Baptist Hospital East. He was preceded in death by his mother, Veneta Thomas, and his brother, Robert L. Thomas. Don is survived by his wife Carolyn (Beckmann) Thomas of 63 years; his two children, Jeff Thomas (Jane), Denise Robinson (Ron); and his grandchildren, Zachary, Brent, and Caitlin Thomas; Cole, Grayson and Whitt Robinson, all of whom he loved dearly. A lifelong Louisville resident, Don graduated from Ahrens Trade High School and also attended U of L. He then entered the Navy and proudly served for 4 years. Upon his return, Don worked for MSD for 28 years where he formed many dear friendships, before retiring as a Tel-Inspection Supervisor in 1988. Don also started his own business, Thomas Nursery, because of his love for planting flowers and gardening. In his free time, he enjoyed spending time outdoors, taking fishing trips, and watching the birds. He had a unique talent for repairing most anything that was broken and took pride in his many wood working projects. Don was a member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church. He was admired for his kindness, willingness to help others, his loyalty, and a determined spirit that served him well. Visitation will be held Friday, September 15th, 2023, 3:00PM - 7:00PM at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd, 40205 with his funeral service on Saturday, September 16th, 10:00 AM also at Highlands Funeral Home with burial to follow at Cave Hill Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. Matthews United Methodist Church for beautification of the garden.

Betty Jean (Creech) Taylor, age 79, a native of Stanton, Kentucky and a former resident of Seymour, Indiana, passed away on Monday, November 27, 2023 at Norton Hospice in Louisville, Kentucky. She was born on February 6, 1944 to the late Liberty Creech and the late Pearlie (Miller) Creech. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Betty was a kind, feisty, lady that had a sarcastic wit and humor. She loved to cook and country cooking was her specialty. Above all things, she loved her family dearly and treasured get togethers and times spent with them. She is survived by her three daughters, Deanna Quillen of Michigan, Melissa Farris of Vallonia, Indiana and Darlisa Padgett and her husband Dale of Prospect, Kentucky. Eight grandchildren, Michael Spurlock, Jeremy Spurlock, Joshua Quillen, Zachariah Farris, Timeaka Farris, James Farris, Kayla Padgett and Andrew Padgett. She was preceded on death by her parents, seven brothers, Omar, Forrest, Estill, Ernest, Charlie, James, Clyde and Reese Creech. Two sisters, Leona Roberts and Juanita Creech. The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 3, 2023 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Christensen Family Funeral Home - Seymour Chapel, Visitation will resume on Monday, December 4, 2023 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at the funeral home with Pastor Jim Hudson officiating. Graham Walter Rapp, 92, died peacefully on November 28, 2023, at Nazareth Home. He was born in Louisville on April 6, 1931 to the late Walter and Eloise (Muth) Rapp. Graham was a graduate of Male High School (Class of 1949) and received his Bachelor of Arts/Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania (Class of 1955). He also received a certificate from the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London, England. He served in the military during the Korean War as a member of the Airforce Engineers stationed at Craig Air Force Base. In 1958, he joined the architectural firm of Arrasmith and Judd in Louisville, becoming a principal in 1965. He went on to serve as President of Arrasmith, Judd, Rapp, Inc. , enjoying a career spanning over 50 years. He was a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), a board member of the Kentucky Society of Architects, and served as President of the State Board of Examination and Registration of Architects in Kentucky. He was given the AIA Kentucky Oberwarth Award in 2002, recognizing his longstanding commitment to the betterment of the profession and the well-being of architects in Kentucky. Many of Graham's designs can be seen throughout Kentucky and around the world. In 1961, Graham married the late Carolyn Jan Smith and had two loving daughters, Lucy Rapp and Margie (Paul) Reynolds. Graham's joys in life included traveling around the globe, raising Connemara ponies, international cooking, collecting Oriental rugs, spending time with his many friends, and an extra-dry martini. But above all, he loved being a dad to his two daughters. Graham was a former member of the Rotary Club of Louisville, the English Speaking Union, the Pendennis Club and Harmony Landing Country Club. His daughters would like to extend their deepest gratitude to his longtime friend and caregiver, Danita Smith. Friends and family are invited to attend a funeral Mass at 10:30 am on Monday, December 4th, at the Cathedral of the Assumption, 433 S. Fifth Street. A private burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park, where he will rest alongside his parents and grandmother. Donations in Graham's name can be made to the Kentucky Humane Society.Show more
