Donald Murphy, 92, entered fully into the presence of his Lord and Savior on August 22nd. Don was born in Los Angeles, CA. He grew up in San Francisco, and moved back to LA in his late teen years. While working as a lifeguard on a California beach at the age of 19, Don met the love of his life, Beverly (then 17). They married soon after, and celebrated their 72nd anniversary last year. After serving in the Marines for a couple of years, he went into the Air Force for a short time. After leaving the service, Don worked as a carpenter, initially building homes all over the state of California, and later, in Washington State (Skagit County). He built 3 homes for his family in Mount Vernon before also building a home for his daughter and son-in-law in Conway. Don enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping with family and friends in his spare time. He was strong in his faith and convictions, and loved his family and friends deeply. Throughout his life, he shared so much wisdom and faithful testimony with his children, grandchildren, and countless others. It was an honor to know him. Don is survived by his son, Mike Murphy, of Mount Vernon, grandson Matthew Murphy, of Everett; daughter Kathy (Don) Dalseg, of Conway, and grandchildren Lindsay (Jeremy) Robertson, of Hood River, OR, great-grandson River Robertson; grandson Nick Dalseg, of Burlington, great-grandson Tyler Peterson, of St. Petersburg, FL, and Tyler's mother, Corey Peterson, of Burlington; grandson Marshall (Nathalie) Dalseg, of Sarasota, FL, great-grandchildren Monse and Rodrigo; and daughter Cheryl Murphy, of Mount Vernon. Don was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one granddaughter, and his wife, Beverly. A private graveside service will be held later at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Stanwood. William (Bill) Bowron passed away November 2, 2023. He was born August 14, 1927 in Mount Vernon to Myrtle and Maurice Bowron. He graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1945 and began his career with the U. S. Postal Service in Mount Vernon. He entered the Army in 1945 and served until 1947. Upon his return home he attended Skagit Valley College, while resuming his work at the Mount Vernon Post Office, as clerk and then Superintendent of Mails for several years. He retired from the Mount Vernon Post Office after 41 years of service. Bill played the trombone and was very active in the music community, playing in the Skagit Symphony Orchestra, the Skagit Community Band, the North Cascades Concert Band and various jazz bands and small music groups. He was a volunteer firefighter with Cedardale Fire Department for several years. Bill and Anna volunteered together for the Mount Vernon Police Department for over 25 years and in 2005 were honored for their volunteer work by Governor Christine Gregoire at the Governor's Mansion in Olympia. Bill enjoyed reading, educational TV programs and visiting museums throughout the area. He enjoyed attending the many Classic Car shows. After their retirement they went on many driving trips throughout the United States and Canada and visited many museums and Classic Car showrooms. Bill was always active in his children's school and was an officer in the PTA Association, helping with school carnivals and fundraising events. His family always came first, and he spent a great amount of time with his two daughters, taking them on hikes to many of the surrounding mountains and making sure they would grow up with a love of the outdoors. Bill played golf and won a hole-in-one contest. He enjoyed hiking and hunting and he was a long distance bike rider and rode his bicycle up Chuckanut Drive to Bellingham, and to La Conner and Anacortes regularly. He went elk hunting every year in the Blue Mountains with his hunting friends and in 1985 finally got his elk and hung up his gun. He was a master at figuring out how to fix anything, and he took care of his home building cabinets and storage wherever needed. If he didn't have a tool he needed he would just go out in his shop and make one. Bill was very active in the First Evangelical Lutheran School, serving on the Church Council in various capacities, as well as his ushering duties at Sunday services and working around the church. Bill was predeceased by his brother, Jack; his parents and several cousins. He is survived by his wife, Anna, daughters, Nancy Kupp (Andy) of Bremerton and Joan Hornick (Dan) of Poulsbo, two step-granddaughters, Kimberly (Paul) Kavanaugh of California and Dakota (Bruce) Dunbar of South Carolina and four step-great grandchildren, Devin and Drew Kavanaugh, and Becket and Zara Dunbar, one sister, Marilyn Raefield of Edmonds, and special nephew and niece, David and Tracie Skrinde, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Phyllis Christofferson, 88, passed away on October 10, 2023. Phyllis was born to Harry and Hellen Curtis in Paragould, Arkansas on August 27, 1935. Phyllis was always involved in her community. First through school with her children and then through numerous community projects and activities. A main focus was her 50 + year membership with the American Legion Auxiliary where she was actively involved in elected & appointed offices at the local, state and national levels. While working for Skagit County Senior Services at the Sedro-Woolley Senior Center she utilized volunteers in promoting programs and activities that enhanced the lives of many local seniors. One such program formed with a group of creative volunteers was the Wild Women of Woolley. This group enjoyed entertaining, having fun & raising funds for senior programs and local community charities. Phyllis always interacted with her seniors & encouraged them to stay active & involved. Upon retirement she followed her own advice. Phyllis enjoyed winters in Arizona, loved to travel & stayed very busy until forced to slow down. Phyllis is survived by her sons Tim Crosby (Cheryl), of Big Lake, Tony Crosby of Sedro-Woolley and daughter Tina Flannery (Bob) of Ilwaco. Five grandchildren, Falyn Crosby, Jessica Desmond (Casey), Connor Crosby, Lily Crosby, Carter Crosby and three great grandchildren, Olivia Crosby, Taylor Ann Desmond and Henry Michael Desmond. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Luther Harold "Hal" Crosby and William A. "Bill" Christofferson and son Terry Crosby. Sylvester Lee Edmondson, age 61, of Mount Vernon, Washington, passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2023 in Mount Vernon. He was born April 12, 1962 to Richard Strickland and Maggie Edmondson in LaGrange, Georgia. Lee married his wife of 37 years, Barbara Talley on April 29, 1986 in Oak Harbor, Washington. Lee served in the U. S. Navy for 22 years and was the recipient of numerous awards including Meritorious Unit Commendation, Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendation with Operational Device, and Coast Guard Special Operations Service awards. Following his naval career he owned and operated Lee and PJ's Auto Repair in Mount Vernon. Lee will be remembered for his intelligence, being quick on his feet, a charmer, and a very good soul. He could also be very comical and was an all around fun loving person. His interests included collecting and working on cars and guns. He loved having a good time but above all, he loved his family and really loved his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Edmondson; daughter, Shareece Edmondson and her daughter Kamilah; son, Sylvester Edmondson Jr. and his wife Ashley and their daughter Isla and their son Khalil. Lee is survived also by a brother, Jeffery Edmondson; and aunt, Florence Person; as well as a host of nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; maternal grandparents, Napoleon and Sarah Edmondson; and maternal great grandparents, Doc and Maggie Evans; an aunt, Ledria Paynes; and paternal grandparents, B. G. and Grace Strickland; and mother-in-law, Annie Bell "Ma Bell" Talley. Gregg Allen Shaffer (70) of Skagit County, WA passed away of natural causes October 8, 2023. He was born August 19, 1953 in Minneapolis, MN to Ed and Dorothy Shaffer. The community of hotrods, his family and endless friends lost a pillar. His contributions to the lives of many will withstand the test of time. Gregg grew up in Northeast (Nordeast) Minneapolis in the fast lane. He was in the garage tinkering with engines and on the strip racing on the weekends. He packed up and headed out west, marrying Cheryl Begeman and having 2 beautiful twin boys and a baby girl, bringing him into fatherhood. He worked hard his entire life for his family. His careers included Iron Mountain Logging and Blue Ribbon Steel Buildings. He transitioned to his passion working in the motorcycle industry, including East Side Harley, Legend/ Silverdale Harley, and North Cascade Harley. He finished his career at Cobra Cycles working alongside lifelong friends. His endeavors included racing Nitrosaurus with good friends & family, the *Funsters M/C* (if ya know, ya know), helping start the Harley Owners Group (HOG) at Skagit Harley in Anacortes in the 80's, Directing 5 State Hog rallies, and was on the board for 12 rallies. He co-founded the Christmas Cruise working alongside Toys for Tots that benefited muscular dystrophy and Special Olympics. His greatest passion was his family. His children and grandchildren brought him great joy. He was present for every special occasion and important family event. He set the bar high for being such a loving father and grandfather. He will be missed dearly: However, his loving example will remain with us forever. Gregg is survived by his three children, Jonathan (Kara) and, Emmett (Monique) all of WA and Jessie Shaffer of MN; grandchildren, Presley, Jameson, Annalise, Nicholas, Elora, Catalina, Lorelei, Aryanna, Willow, Odin, & Bjorn; sister, Darlene Rouse of MN and many beloved nieces and nephews. Kenneth Lee "Ken" Scott passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, October 31, 2023. Ken was born to Peter "Pete" and Stella (Muzzall) Scott on November 11, 1947 in Oak Harbor, WA. Ken grew up in a loving family with brother John and sisters Lois and Cathy. May 26, 1979, he married Kerri Bartram in Stanwood. The couple made their home in Mount Vernon and raised three children, Korey, Lindsay, and Tyler. Ken attended and graduated from Burlington High School. After Graduation he went to Skagit Valley College and later began working as a carpenter. In 1982 Ken began his 40+ year career with the City of Mount Vernon Waste Water Treatment Plant and Street Department. He worked as an operator and supervisor with the city. Ken had many hobbies and they included: wood working and the ability to create anything from wood, enjoying time with his grandchildren and always supporting their activities, helping family and friends, watching baseball and football, hiking, biking, backpacking and he coached little league baseball. Ken's top priority was pride and devotion to his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Stella Scott; sister, Lois Schmidt; father-in-law, Everett "Bart" Bartram; mother-in-law, Joan Gilbertson; brother-in-law, Val Durham and nephew, Scott Schmidt. Ken is survived by his wife, Kerri Scott; children, Korey Bartram Scott, Lindsay Scott (Nate LeSourd), Tyler Scott (Ashley); grandchildren, Kolten, Kaden, Kizer, Elijah, Nash, Cohen and Kinsey. Ken is also survived by his brothers, John (John) Scott, John (Mary Kay) Schmidt, and sister Cathy (Jerry) Woodcock. Ken's extended family include brothers-in-law, Barry (Pam) Bartram, Tim (Gena) Tiffany, Todd Tiffany and Tracy Tiffany and sisters-in-law Sheri Durham, Jerri Bartram and Tami Sundberg as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Evelyn Youngquist, mother, grandma, and friend, died peacefully Oct. 23, 2023. Evelyn was born Feb. 11, 1926 to Charles and Beulah Martin in Burlington, Washington, where she grew up with her brother, Elmer. Evelyn attended Belleville Grade School with 3 students in each grade, and graduated from BEHS in 1944. She married Marvin Youngquist in 1947 after he returned home from WWII. Marvin and Evelyn enjoyed living in several homes, but especially enjoyed their home at Skagit Golf and Country Club, socializing with friends and playing golf. Marvin and Evelyn always looked forward to moving to their Samish Island home for the summer. They spent their time crabbing, hosting parties, and having a great time with all of their special beach friends. Marvin and Evelyn enjoyed traveling and visited many places in the US and abroad. After Marvin's passing, Evelyn made several trips with friends. Her favorite being Africa, which she had dreamed of since she was a child. She loved the people, the animals, and the country. Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Deann Johnson, her children, beloved granddaughter, Krista Nelson granddaughters, Jessica Notaro (Chris) Erica Johnson Turner (Logan) and grandson, Zach Johnson; her son, Larry Youngquist (Sandi), their children, Kim Blomgren (Zane), Rebecca Saur, Kevin Saur; sister-in-law, Mabel Martin; and numerous great-grandchildren. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin, brother, Elmer Martin, and special friend Lyle Ovenell.
