Donald Clark McMillion died Wednesday, September 6, at his home in Greensboro. He was born in Charleston, West Virginia in 1938, educated at Asheville School, UNC-Chapel Hill, the UNC School of Law, and NYU School of Law. His professional life spanned from his years at Citicorp in New York, through founding First Securities, where he became the youngest President of a NYSE member firm at 29 years of age, to his present Greensboro business McMillion Capital Management, which he founded in 1977. He was a long-time supporter and board member of both the Eastern Music Festival & The Mebane Foundation. He was a consummate professional and a true gentleman. He is survived by his wife, Lou, his daughters Elizabeth England and husband Andy, Evans McMillion and husband Chris Burgess, Stephanie Plemmons and husband Doug, son Alex Hooker and wife Chanel Frisco, and grandchildren Oliver and Sallie England, Lang and Macon Burgess, Gus Plemmons, and Claudia Hooker. At Mr. McMillion's request, there will be no public service. Memorial donations may be made to The Eastern Music Festival, 200 N Davie St. Greensboro NC, 27401. "Joseph M. Nelson of Greensboro, NC passed away peacefully at home on Friday, Dec 8 from a brief illness. Joe will be lovingly remembered by Sherrie, his wife and best friend of 46 years, parents: Joe \u0026amp; Norma Nelson; three brothers: Jeff, Jim, and John (Carla); three children: Sallie Martin (Jason), Travis (Chantel), and Carl; six grandchildren: Tyson Nelson, Gabrielle Nelson, Mirabella Grubb, Jaxen Grubb, Roman Nelson, \u0026amp; Gigi Lynn Grubb, plus many nieces \u0026amp; nephews. Joe was born in Joliet, IL and in 1976 moved to NC where he met his wife, Sherrie. Joe's career in the ready-mix concrete industry included operation of his own concrete finishing company, after which he developed Fireside Homes and built custom homes in the Greensboro area for over 20 years. Joe enjoyed fellowship with a non-denominational Christian church that met weekly in his home for many years. His life was centered around his faith and love for others which extended to neighbors and friends far and wide. The family will receive friends from 5-7pm on Friday, 12/15 at Forbis \u0026amp; Dick N. Elm Chapel in Greensboro, NC. A Funeral Service will be held at 10am on Saturday 12/16 at the same location with interment to follow at Westminster Gardens Cemetery. Stuart Kaplan, 96, of Greensboro, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2023. Stuart was born on April 13, 1927, in the Bronx, New York. At the age of two, his family moved to Brooklyn where he grew up, spending summers with family at the Connecticut shore. He was an avid dancer, having won dance competitions in the New York City dance halls. Upon graduation from City College of New York, he was hired by Maidenform Lingerie Company and later, Stuart worked for over 30 years as a traveling sales representative for Shadowline Lingerie. In Manhattan, Stuart met Naomi Iskowitz, a pretty showroom model, who had also grown up in Brooklyn. They married in 1955 and moved to Greensboro where they raised their three children, Alan, Shari, and Richard in Green Valley. On the weekends, Stuart played golf, and he and Naomi enjoyed boating with their children. They were active members of Beth David Synagogue where Stuart was a long-time member of the Men's Club. Upon retirement, he and Naomi remained in Greensboro to be close to family and lifelong friends. They enjoyed traveling, singing in the Chai Notes choir, and volunteering at Jewish Family Services and the Shepherd's Center. At Friends Homes West, he and Naomi were active volunteers and performed and sang in a variety of plays with the Skittish Friends group. Together they enjoyed the theater, concerts, and the arts. He is remembered by family, friends, and his Friends Homes West and hospice caregivers for his positive attitude, friendly smile, and quick wit. Stuart is predeceased by wife Naomi, his parents Reuben and Eva, and his brother Robert (Bobby). Many thanks to the Friends Homes West staff and hospice staff for providing compassion and care for Stuart in his final years of life. Stuart is survived by children Alan (Kate) of Matthews, North Carolina, Shari (John) Heberton of Greer, South Carolina, Richard (Cathy) Kaplan of Raleigh, North Carolina, and his grandchildren Winter and Kayla (Jaxon) Ray-Kaplan, Michael Heberton (Rebecca), Amy Nash (Braden), and Andrew and Eva Kaplan. A memorial service will be held at Beth David Synagogue, 804 Winview Drive, Greensboro, NC on Tuesday, December 12 at 2:00pm. Alexander Logan Wilcox Nance passed away Friday, December 1, 2023. He was the loving and adored son of Ronnie Nance and Debra Pack Nance. Logan graduated from Western Guilford High School in 2008, and then attended Cape Fear Community College. He was Vice President of Cardinal Concrete Company, working alongside his father and mother. Logan was very outgoing, kind, generous, big-hearted and a very loving friend to all. He never met a stranger. He loved his dogs, cars, tropical fish, plants, flowers, gardening and most of all his parents. In addition to his parents, Logan is survived by Ellie Mae, his Pit Bull, and Lokie, his German Shepherd. Also, aunts and uncles, Debbie and Frosty Sheppard, Diana and Mike Vanderpool, John and Sheila Pack, and numerous cousins. Honorary aunt and uncles, Diana Meacham, George Lamoureux and David Forrest. Numerous special friends from Greensboro and Colorado. Logan was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Marvin and Lucille Nance, maternal grandparents Russell and Eleanor Pack, and cousin Casey Vanderpool.
