Donald C. Johnson, formerly of Paintsville, was born December 15, 1939, and went to be with the lord December 27, 2022. He was a native of Morehead, Kentucky. Donald served in the U. S. Army and was stationed in Germany, where he proposed to his wife. Donald spent his life building homes and preaching the gospel. He preached at several little churches and was even a pastor. If the church doors were open, he was there. Donald was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Ina A. Johnson in 2019; his parents, Burley and Zella Johnson; three brothers, Sam Johnson, Lee Johnson, and Dallas Johnson; and five sisters, Hildreth Black, Vonetta Hart, Mildred Glick, Vivian Kemp, and Shirley Hughes. He is survived by one sister, Carol Jean Johnson; three daughters, Ina L. Bourlon (Jack), Barbara S. Johnson (Shaun), and Marlo A. Smalley (David); six grandchildren, Derick Melvin (Kaci), Robert Melvin (Wendi), Cherysh Hunt (Luke), Alexis Wright (Bryant), Kaitlyn Ratterman, and Lily Smalley; and many great grandchildren. We remember him today as a husband, a father, a grandfather, a veteran, and a man of God. Visitation will be from 11 a. m. to 1 p. m. on Monday, January 2, 2023, followed by a celebration of life beginning at 1 p. m. with Pastor Southie Fannin, Jr. presiding at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens with full military honors by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.
