Donald Huskey Obituary

"Donald Wayne Huskey, 81, of 104 Knollwood Drive, Hurt died Monday, May 8, 2023 at his home. He was the husband of Lynne Cothran Huskey for 47 years. He was born February 6, 1942 in Reidsville, NC, a son of the late William Henry Huskey and Ada Mae Strader. He was a member of Lane Memorial United Methodist Church, a retired employee of Burlington Industries, a U. S. Air Force Veteran, and a member of the American Legion Post 16 of Lynchburg. Donald was an avid spectator of air shows, loved the beach, a good seafood platter, and Smithfield BBQ. In his free time, he was a real Mr. Fix-it that loved tinkering with electronics and other household repairs. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a host of nieces and nephews. He was a loving father who was preceded in death by a son, Larry Donald Huskey in 1983; and his siblings, Bill Huskey, Louise Smith, Alice Bray, Lorene Purnell and Dorothy Owen. A memorial service will be conducted at 7:00 p. m. , Friday, May 12, 2023 at Finch \u0026amp; Finch Chapel, Altavista by the Rev. Ben Horrocks with military honors by American Legion Altavista Memorial Post 36 and Gretna Post 232. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the residence. Don struggled for many years with Bipolar Disorder and has established a fund in the name of his son, The Greater Lynchburg Community Trust in care of The Larry Donald Huskey Memorial Fund, 1100 Commerce Street, Lynchburg, VA 24504; St. Jude Children\u0027s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9956; Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd, Staten Island, NY 10306; and Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758516, Topeka, KS, 66675.
