In Loving Memory of Agnel Torcato Dores Coutinho
With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful departure of Agnel Torcato Dores Coutinho, from this world on December 1, 2023, in Falls Church, VA. Affectionately known as Aggie Boy by family and close friends, he courageously faced a three-year battle with kidney cancer. Born on July 12, 1945, in Bombay, India, to Pedro Manuel Jose Peres Coutinho & Teodolinda Maria Coneicao Tome, Aggie Boy's roots in Goa, India, shaped his upbringing in Bombay. He embarked on a journey that led him to Bahrain in 1977 and later to the United States in 2004, first in California and eventually settling in Virginia.
Aggie Boy's life unfolded as a symphony of faith, talent, and boundless love, drawing people toward him as a magnetic force. His extraordinary memory became a testament to his deep connection to family, meticulously recalling significant dates, from birthdays and anniversaries to the feast days of saints, now sharing in their communion. Agnel embodied unparalleled honesty, coupled with remarkable musical talent, creating an indelible mark on those who had the privilege of experiencing his artistry. His profound love for Holy Mother Church manifested in a deep devotion to its priests, bishops, and the Pope.
Agnel was the epitome of love and kindness--a quiet, humble man who adored his Catholic faith, displaying profound devotion to our Blessed Mother. His spiritual journey was illuminated by his deep love for sacramentals, particularly the rosary and novenas to St. Anthony, St. Jude, and Our Lady of Perpetual Succor. His fervent prayers embraced the entirety of his family, encompassing both the living and those who had gone before him. He found peace in his final hours after receiving the Sacrament of Extreme Unction (last rites) while wearing his beloved brown scapula. We take solace in knowing that he now rests in the bosom of Abraham, hearing the comforting words of Christ, "Well done, my good and faithful servant. "
In the realm of music, Aggie Boy's legacy is that of a virtuoso pianist, his melodious notes resonating in diverse venues--from the bustling ambiance of airports to many a concert hall. Over the span of decades, he selflessly dedicated his musical gift for the glory of God, serving as a volunteer church pianist in India, Bahrain, and the United States. Beyond his personal achievements, he generously shared his passion and expertise, shaping the talents of countless students who found inspiration under his gentle guidance.
Agnel leaves behind a rich tapestry of cherished memories, intricately woven with the threads of his enduring love. His legacy lives on through his devoted wife of 47 years, Irene, who will deeply feel his absence. Their children, Cecil (Ruthie) and Savia, will sorely miss his comforting voice of reason and calming demeanor. As a beloved grandfather, he will be warmly remembered by Lucas, Isaiah, Julia, and Zelie. Aggie Boy's influence extends across borders, touching the hearts of his brother Tony Coutinho in Bombay, India, as well as numerous nephews and nieces scattered around the globe.
Dad, your absence leaves a void that words struggle to fill. In times of turmoil, you were our steadfast anchor, a beacon of sanity in this chaotic world, and our solace when clarity eluded us. Your unwavering faith served as our moral compass, guiding us with integrity and love. Above all, you imparted the invaluable lesson of prayer, weaving the fabric of our family with the sacred thread of a daily rosary. The countless prayers you offered for us will now be echoed back to heaven, as we ask you to intercede for us before Christ. We extend our deepest gratitude, Dad, for the rich and cohesive lives we've led under your influence--shaped by your hard work, integrity, faith, and boundless love. We carry you in our hearts always, seeking solace in the embrace of God.
