CHURCHVILLE - Donald Markley Hanger, 95, of Churchville, died peacefully in his home on Thursday, October 5, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones. Born July 9, 1928 in Waynesboro, he was a son of the late Charles Ott and Ruby (Markley) Hanger. Donald graduated from Waynesboro High School and attended Bridgewater College. He retired from E. I. DuPont after 37 years of service. Blessed with a wonderful singing voice, he was a past member of the Rockingham Male Chorus and also sang at many weddings, funerals and nursing homes. He loved people and never met a stranger. He was such an encourager and a positive person, and will be greatly missed. Donald loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He loved all animals, especially his cat "Baby" and his dog "Sally. " He also loved the beach and Outer Banks vacations with family. He was a faithful member of Jerusalem Chapel United Brethren in Christ Church where he was a past president of the B. A. Y. C. B. Sunday School Class and served as head of the greeters for many years. On April 23, 1987 he married the former Martha Lucas, who survives him. He is also survived by his three beloved children, J. Mark Hanger (Diane), Lisa Geiman, and Lesley Dofflemyer; his two stepchildren, Stephanie Miller (John) and Jonathan Clark (Amanda); a sister, Joan Henley; six grandchildren, Kate Hale (Tom), John Hanger (Allison), Lance Hanger (Annie), Colby Geiman, Dolan Geiman (Alimarie), and Brecken Geiman; two step grandchildren, Samuel Miller and Savannah Miller; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Hanger; and by the mother of his children, Betty Hanger. A funeral service will be held at 2 p. m. Tuesday, October 10 in Jerusalem Chapel, officiated by Pastors George Etling and Scott Reese. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family is grateful for the love, care and support given by the staff of Gentiva Hospice, especially Rachel, during the past several weeks. WAYNESBORO - James Ray "Jamie" Gee, 53, husband of Tham Gee, passed away Wednesday, November 29, 2023. Jamie was born on April 24, 1970 in Akron, Ohio and was the middle son of James Edmond Gee and the late Helen Jomayne (Dorsey) Gee. He graduated from Buffalo Gap High School in 1988, and was employed by Virginia Panel Corporation for 33 years as a computerized numeric control machinist, retiring as a supervisor in 2021. He had worked for the past two years for BSC Paving. Jamie was meticulous and skilled as both a machinist and a mechanic. He was crazy about Harleys and Ford trucks, and enjoyed using his mind and his hands to fix things. Jamie was an avid sportsman. Active in numerous sports in high school, he continued to follow them enthusiastically throughout his life. He also enjoyed helping Tham with her garden. He was a loving and devoted husband. Jamie was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Jomayne (Dorsey) Gee; a nephew, Scotty R. Gee, Jr. ; a great-niece, Maggi Peterson; and his beloved canine companion, "Jasmine. "Surviving are his wife of four years, Tham Gee; his father and step-mother, James and Neila Gee of West Augusta; two step sons, Jesse Forloines of Texas, and Kevin Hoang (Jessica) along with their four children of Lyndhurst; two brothers, Scotty R. Gee (Alice) of Churchville, and Christopher M. Gee (Melissa) of Staunton; a step brother, Paul Taylor of Summersville, W. Va. ; nieces and nephews Stephanie Gee Ferguson (Mark) of Fishersville, Benjamin R. Gee (Michelle) of Churchville, Kristyn Gee and Camden Gee, both of Staunton; and three great-nephews, Paden Gee, Jermi Stroemple and Trent Karicofe. A funeral service will be held at 2 p. m. Sunday, December 3 in the chapel of Bear Funeral Home, officiated by Ronald Martin. Burial will follow in West Augusta Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Benji Gee, Stacy McCray, Allan Losh, Trevor Colvin, Mark Ferguson, Paden Gee, Jermi Stroemple, Trent Karicofe, and Billy Lobdell. VERONA - Della Mae (Bosserman) Griffin, 91, died Monday (October 23, 2023) in her home. Born June 15, 1932 in Augusta County, she was a daughter of the late Willie Merlin and Mabel Virginia (Harding) Bosserman. Della was a life-long caregiver. She had been employed as a nurse's aid at Oak Hill Nursing Home and Bridgewater Home, and also provided private-duty home care for many years prior to retirement. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Staunton where she loved being active in the Friendship Sunday School Class. Della was preceded in death by her husband, Lynn Earsell Griffin; a daughter, Judy Ann Griffin; a sister, Patsy Blackwell; a granddaughter, Collett Mann; and a special friend, Pearle Rowe. She is survived by five children, Janet L. Adams, Lynn E. "Pete" Griffin and wife Terri, James W. Griffin, Roger D. Griffin and wife Cherrie, and Wayne K. Griffin and wife Dianne; sisters Kathleen Smith and Brenda Smith; brothers Alvin Bosserman and Willie Bosserman; ten grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 11 a. m. Friday, October 27 in the chapel of Bear Funeral Home, officiated by Pastors Steve Traylor and Danny Pritchett. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Howard Rimel Beck, 90, of 412 Marble Valley Rd. , died peacefully on Saturday (September 30, 2023) in his home, surrounded by loved ones. Born September 13, 1933 in this same home, he was a son of the late Harry Thomas and Myrtle (Rimel) Beck. Howard graduated from Churchville High School in 1950, and earned a bachelor's degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1954. He was a livestock grader and a lifelong farmer, the third generation to operate the family farm, formerly known as Creek Run Farm. He was pleased to share his love of farming with his family - his son Todd and grandson Garrett are the fourth and fifth generations now managing the farm. Howard was a U. S. Army veteran, and was a faithful member and trustee of West Augusta United Methodist Church. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. On September 5, 1959 he married the former Peggy Phillips, who survives, along with their three sons, Todd R. Beck (Michelle) of Staunton, Tracey P. Beck (Kathy) of Lake Forest, Illinois, and Trent H. Beck (Laurie) of Hector, New York; a sister, Mary Frances Carr (Murray) of Fairfax; grandchildren Garrett Beck (Bree), Sidney Beck, Lauren Beck and Alexandra Beck; and numerous nieces and nephews. Howard was preceded in death by two brothers, John T. Beck (Marie) and Richard C. Beck (Polly). A graveside service will be held 11 a. m. Thursday, October 5 in Rocky Spring Presbyterian Church Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Mark Reuter. The family will receive friends at the residence. STAUNTON - Priscilla Watson Dailey, 86, died Wednesday, September 13, 2023. Born January 31, 1937 in Lockport, N. Y. , she was the daughter of Richard Meldrum Watson and Helen (Norgate) Watson. She graduated from Lockport High School in 1954 and received a BS from Buffalo State Teachers College in 1958. In 1964 she earned her MS degree from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. Priscilla was employed for a number of years as a 4-H agent for Ontario County, New York. She also taught night school at Lockport High School and Starpoint Center School. She served as election chairwoman for the Town of Lockport, delivered Meals on Wheels, participated in the Each One Teach One program, was a 4-H volunteer leader, served on the Republican Committee for the Town of Lockport, and was a member of the Farm and Home Days Committee. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Lockport and United Church of Canandaigua, N. Y. On September 28, 1983 she married Leonard Conrad Dailey. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a nephew, Robert Shawn Watson. Surviving are a brother, Richard Norgate Watson (Joanne Flynn-Watson) of Churchville; nephew Richard Benjamin Watson and his children Shawn and Zach; nephew Chad David Harrington (Wyndi) and their daughter Sara Hope Harrington; niece Rene Anne Harrington (Curt Parrish) and their children Layla and Gannon Parrish; and cousins John Benjamin Watson, David Watson (Carole), Diane Watson Fauth (Bob), Lizabeth Conley Kahn, Edward Hugh Conley (Sheila), and William Conley (Joanne). A private burial will take place at a later date in the Norgate family plot in Cold Springs Cemetery, Lockport.
