Donald Joseph Geiger, 78, passed away on April 21, 2023. He was born on January 18, 1945 in East Orange, NJ to Charles and Matilda Geiger. Donald was raised in East Orange and spend his later childhood years supporting his family. After his dad died when Donald was young, he got a job to support him mom and siblings while still attending high school. After graduating high school, Donald decided that he would join the US Army from whom he proudly served. He served in the US Army from 1964 to 1986 before finally retiring from the military. While in the military, during his free time, Donald enjoyed participating in the Volks Marches in Germany every year. After a long and dedicated military career, he also was an avid football fan and a Washington Redskins fan. Donald had a great sense of humor and was often described as dry humor. He loved making others laugh and smile. In supermarkets, Donald was known for his greeting upon entering the store, "Good morning, everybody!" He would make his presence known by yelling this when out and about shopping. Even though Donald had a dry sense of humor, he could often be found taking care of others and helping those in need. Donald, was also very active in his home parishs, Fort Monmouth Chapel, St. Dorthea's, St. Anslem, & St. Veronica in Howell. There, he served as an eucharistic minister and was known for his charisma within the church. Donald was a loving husband to his wife Kathryn of 52 years, father and grandfather. He is predeceased by his parents Charles and Matilda, his beloved wife Kathryn, and other family members. Surviving Donald is his son Charles (Ann Marie) Geiger; daughter Holly Geiger; sister Patricia Dudes; grandchildren Joseph, Theresa, Brandon, Maria, Christopher, and Cecelia; and his nieces Susan and Laura. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 2, 2023 from 4pm to 8pm at John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Ave. , Red Bank, NJ 07701. A funeral mass will take place on Tuesday, May 3, 2023 starting at 10am at St. Veronica, 4219 US-9, Howell Township, NJ 07731. Entombment will follow to Woodbine Cemetery and Mausoleum, 14 Maple Ave, Oceanport, NJ 07757 after the conclusion of mass. Condolences can be sent to www. johnedayfuneralhome. com.
