Donald Lee Dimitry, 89, passed away peacefully on Wednesday October 4th, 2023 surrounded by his loving family and his long-time caregiver Abena Fosuae Don was a quiet, caring, humble, and selfless man with a quick wit and penchant for sarcasm He cherished spending time with family and friends, particularly the annual family vacations in the Outer Banks, N C Don was an avid sports enthusiast, particularly when cheering on his New York Giants! He played tennis, loved card games, puzzles, and reading He was an animal lover and rescued both of his treasured dogs Maggie and Nutmeg Don served as a Sergeant in the United States Army working on radar systems before earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Kent State University and a Master of Science in Statistics from Rutgers University He married his first wife Helen Kyrioglou Dimitry in 1960 and settled in Westfield Over the next three years he welcomed his two sons John and Tom into the world His only daughter Christina completed the family several years later Don enjoyed a 31-year career at IBM which included a four-year European assignment that brought the family to Switzerland and Belgium Upon returning from their overseas travel, the family settled in Summit, N J where they remained for 20 years After retiring from IBM, Don spent several years working as the Director of IT at Bouras Industries In addition to working for IBM, Don co-authored two books, lectured at Rutgers University and served as an Adjunct Professor for the Fairleigh Dickinson MBA program He was an active member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church serving as treasurer of the parish council for many years In 1998 Don married Nancy Wiatt Dimitry and she quickly became an integral part of the family They enjoyed 25 wonderful years together in Madison N J Don was predeceased by his first wife, Helen Dimitry and his parents John and Irene Dimitry He is survived by his wife Nancy Dimitry, his younger brother James Dimitry, his 3 children John Dimitry (wife Sue), Tom Dimitry (wife Karen), and Christina Dimitry and his grandchildren Devon, Brian, and Kayla, as well as his many grand-dogs A viewing will be held Sunday October 8th, 2023 at Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Avenue in Westfield from 4:00 to 7:00 pm with a funeral service on Tuesday October 10th at 11:00 am at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 250 Gallows Hill Road in Westfield Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery immediately following the funeral service Please join us to remember, honor and celebrate Don's life In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Outcast Rescue ( ) to honor Don's passion for dogs or to the Alzheimer's Association ( ) For donations, please note that they are in memory of Don Dimitry

Earlene Evans was born on March 28, 1931, in Newark, NJ to the late Hershel and Annie Lee Rutledge. She was predeceased by her brothers Raymond and Clarence Rutledge, her sister, Vera Adkins, and her husband, James C. Evans. Earlene was a graduate of West Side High School in Newark. After the birth of her six children, at the age of 42, she resumed her education by attending Essex County College and obtaining certification as a nurse. She worked in this field for a while and later as an aide for Newark Public Schools. As a teenager, Earlene began attending church with her friend, Grace (Williams) McKnight. She was saved as a young adult and found a spiritual family under the leadership of Overseer Clarence Williams at Church of the Living God, Pillar and Foundation of Truth and later at St Paul Pentecostal Holiness Church. Serving in the church and always looking for opportunities to help those in need, she was an example for her children. Earlene left Newark to care for ill husband in Virginia. She wanted to continue the relationship with her grandchildren, so she would drive back up to NJ to have a bunch of them stay with her for a week each summer. One group of girls, the other group would be the boys. Her adult grandchildren still look for a birthday card from her each year. Earlene later returned to Newark permanently and found a church home at Zion Holy Church. Her new church family enveloped her with love, and she became the dear friend of Mother Flossie Cohen. Her work for the Lord continued as Evangelist Evans chaired the Nursing Home and Noonday Prayer ministries. Evangelist Evans was called "Mother Moses", "Ma" or "Grandma" by many. Known for her quick wit and thoughtfulness, she was a source of encouragement to the young people in her church as well as those at Christian Antioch Church in Christ. Earlene was a fun-loving traveler and an avid shopper, and by God's grace, she lived life to the fullest even in her last days. She will be held in loving remembrance by two sons Shelton Moses of OH; Lionel Moses of NJ; four daughters Cheryl Moses and Karen Gordon (Christopher) of PA, Colette Moses and Bernadette Leake of NJ; 21 grandchildren and 28 great grands; 6 sisters-in-law, a longtime friend and spiritual sister, Lucinda White, a daughter she did not birth, Mary Ann Sawka, a god daughter, Mary Cohen- Williams (Mark); a nephew, Tony Adkins (Patrice) as well as many other family members and friends. Though her presence will be missed, Earlene made it a priority to make many special memories that will last forever.Show more

Rev. Richard J. Carrington, Jr. ,72, born to eternal life on November 22, 2023. Visitation will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes RC Church, 300 Central Ave. , Mountainside on Monday, November 27, 2023 from 4 to 8 PM. A Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at 10:30 AM at the church. Interment will follow at Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah. Fr. Richard graduated from Seton Hall University and continued on to the Immaculate Conception Seminary and was ordained on May 29, 1976. A Catholic Priest of the Archdiocese of Newark, Fr. Richard dedicated his life to service in the Catholic Church and touched countless lives in the following parishes: SS Joseph and Michael in Union City, where he also served as Pastor, St. Thomas the Apostle in Bloomfield, St. John the Baptist in Jersey City, St. Joseph of the Palisades in West New York, Our Lady of Grace/St. Joseph in Hoboken, where he also served as Pastor and Our Lady of Lourdes in Mountainside, from where he retired as Pastor. In addition, he served in the US Navy as a Chaplin for 20 years, retiring as a Commander. Fr. Richard was predeceased by his parents, the late Richard and Genevieve Carrington. He is survived by his sister, Jeanne Carrington and her husband Brian Keane of Toms River, his nieces, Kaitlin Carrington Keane and her husband, David O'Flanagan of London, England and Elizabeth Anne Keane and her husband, Conor White of New York City and his grandniece Ripley Orla O'Flanagan Keane. Margery Fleming Frank Brewster (1930-2023)Margery Brewster, 93, of Westfield, NJ, passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 16th. Marge was born in East Orange, NJ, to Marion Fleming and Nelson Frank. An only child, Margery lost her father at age 11 and was raised by her single Mom. A graduate of East Orange High School, where she authored the famous column,"Margie's Gym Shorts," for the NEWS, the school paper. Margery attended St. Michael's nursing school before meeting her soon-to-be-husband Bob Brewster on the boardwalk in Belmar, NJ. They were married for 62 years and raised four boys, largely on Harding St in Westfield. In addition to actively raising and supporting her sons, Margery was involved in the local PTA, volunteered at the Westfield Rescued Squad and was a member of the Women's Club of Westfield, the Jockers and the First United Methodist Church of Westfield while working for several local businesses and running the cafeteria with excellence at Roosevelt Junior High School in Westfield. While always stylish, smart and fashionable, Margie will most be remembered for her sensitivity, grit and loyalty to her family. When interviewed for her 90th birthday, Margery commented with a twinkle in her eye, "we had the best lives we ever could have had. "Margery was preceded in death by her parents, Marion and Nelson; husband of 62 years Robert E. Brewster, and grandson Scott Glen Brewster and is survived by her four sons and spouses: Robert Elmer Brewster, Jr (Maureen) of Westfield, NJ; Bradley Scott Brewster (Missy) of Palmetto Bluff, SC; Daryl Glen Brewster (Renee) of Mendham, NJ; and Roger Phillip Brewster (Harriet) of Mountain Brook, AL; 10 amazing grandchildren; and 16 wonderful great grandchildren. Services will be held on Wednesday morning, November 22nd, beginning at 9:30 at Dooley Colonial Funeral Home, 556 Westfield Ave, Westfield, with her internment immediately following next to her husband at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield. Thomas Millard Masteller, 81, passed away at his home in Westfield New Jersey surrounded by family on November 14, 2023. Tom was born on February 17, 1942, to Marvin Masteller and Ruth Thomas Masteller, and was raised in the hard coal region of eastern Pennsylvania. He graduated from East Stroudsburg University with a degree in Education, and later earned his Master’s in Education from Wesleyan University. Following college Tom moved to New Jersey where he began his teaching career in Westfield at Roosevelt Jr. High School in the Social Studies department. There he met and married his wife of 50 years, Wendy Ellen Koop, a fellow teacher from the Science department. Together in Westfield they raised their two daughters Carrie Elizabeth Masteller, and Susan Leigh Masteller. Tom had eclectic interests he passionately pursued ranging from NJ Revolutionary War history to good Scotch and Cigars. His love of amateur photography developed into a small wedding and special events photography business in the ‘80s and ‘90s. Tom also had a love of brewing coffee, experimenting with every type of brew, and cooking where his specialties were chili, cheesecake, and deep-fried Turkey. He was, however, most well-known for his love of Nascar, never missing a race and collecting all manner of Jeff Gordon memorabilia. Tom and Wendy have been active members of the First Congregational Church of Westfield for over 40 years. He found great joy and comradery in being a member of the Chancel Choir. It was with the choir he had the opportunity to travel to and perform in famous churches in Salzburg, Austria and Leipzig, Germany. After retiring from teaching Tom began a second career with Transportation Care, driving special needs students to school and injured adults to medical appointments. He enjoyed this work and was appreciated by his coworkers and customers for his kindness and humor. Tom is survived by his wife Wendy Masteller; daughters Susan Masteller and Carrie Brundage; son-in-law Christopher Brundage; and granddaughters Riley Elizabeth Brundage, Logan Olivia Brundage, and Taylor Kathryn Brundage. A Memorial Service will be held at the First Congregational Church of Westfield on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at 2pm with a reception to follow in Patton Auditorium.
