Raleigh, North Carolina - Don Wayne Hansen, 85, passed away at Springmoor Health Center. He fought a courageous battle with Parkinson's for 13 years. Don was born in Iron Mountain, Michigan to the late Carl Richard and Thelma Hansen. Don attended Florence High School, Florence, WI and graduated from Washington High School, Milwaukee, WI. Don met his wife, Betty Ann Williams in Milwaukee at Calvary Presbyterian Church. Don graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a B. S. degree in electrical engineering in 1961. He became a registered professional engineer in Wisconsin. He and Betty moved to Raleigh in 1991. He worked at Schneider Electric. Don was very active in boy scouts. His life long love of trains and electronics led him to write a column in Model Railroader Magazine for many years. He and Betty were NC train hosts for 8 years. He enjoyed genealogy, art and music; and was an avid joke teller. Don is survived by his wife Betty of 63 years; his daughter, Joy Mabo and son, John of the Raleigh area and son, Mark (Michelle), Wauwatosa, WI. Brother, Neil (Carol) Hansen, Cummings, GA and sister Lanette (Ray) Chadwick, Layton, UT. Granddaughters, Rhiannon Watkins, Lea Hansen, and Muriel (Devon) Wolfe, grandsons, John Hansen, Jr. , Rhys Hansen and Kyle Hansen. A memorial service is planned for 3PM at Springmoor Retirement Community Auditorium, 1500 Sawmill Road, Raleigh. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research in Don's name.
